And one other bombastic line of bull we'll be hearing - "Workforce Participation."

Let's check the facts - looks fairly average (on the low end) and unimpressive, doesn't it?

Nothing to brag about here!

GDP - Get ready for some more bull!

MarketWatch by Mark Decambre

Stock-market investors can’t remember the last time a GDP report held such import

Consensus estimates from economists polled by MarketWatch indicate a rate of expansion of about 4.2%. Although the Federal Reserve’s GDPNow tracker was indicating a Q2 read of 3.8%, as of Thursday.

Fox Business reports that a strong number may be used as an excuse for the Trump administration to take a victory lap, claiming that late-2017 corporate tax cuts and a number of other stimulative measures enacted over the past several months are bearing fruit.

BUT:

Others note that at least some of the growth can be attributed to a rush to get ahead of the Trump administration’s tariff threats, which have had an outsize impact on the soybean market, as David Rosenberg points out:

AND a little perspective (note results of last Republican administration):

So - brace yourself for the bullshit!

Chris Hardwick to Return as 'Talking Dead' Host Following Investigation

Sometimes the 'good guy' (frequent description by friends and aquaintances) turns out to be pretty much a good guy.

Source: Variety, by Cynthia Littleton and Joe Otterson

Chris Hardwick will return as host of AMC’s “Talking Dead” series following an investigation into allegations that he was abusive to former girlfriend Chloe Dykstra.

Hardwick will return as host of “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” aftershow as of Aug. 12 for the “Fear the Walking Dead” midseason premiere. He was suspended from the role by AMC last month after Dykstra penned an essay accusing Hardwick of being emotionally and sexually abusive during their relationship.

“Following a comprehensive assessment by AMC, working with Ivy Kagan Bierman of the firm Loeb & Loeb, who has considerable experience in this area, Chris Hardwick will return to AMC as the host of ‘Talking Dead’ and ‘Talking with Chris Hardwick.’ We take these matters very seriously and given the information available to us after a very careful review, including interviews with numerous individuals, we believe returning Chris to work is the appropriate step,” AMC said in a statement.

“Talking Dead” has become a mainstay on the network and frequently ranks as one of the top-rated cable shows of the week. The show debuted during the second season of “The Walking Dead” in 2011 and began after airing “Fear the Walking Dead” as well in 2016 during that show’s second season.

Trump Says U.S., EU Must Cut All Tariffs Ahead of Key Talks

What comes out of this meeting will most definitely move the markets today.

Source: Bloomberg, by Nicos Chrysoloras

Taking a firm position.

“I have an idea for them. Both the U.S. and the E.U. drop all Tariffs, Barriers and Subsidies!” Trump said in a Tuesday night tweet. “That would finally be called Free Market and Fair Trade! Hope they do it, we are ready - but they won’t!”

What's at stake today.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom are due to meet with Trump in Washington on Wednesday. They plan to signal the bloc’s willingness to negotiate a bilateral trade agreement with the U.S. on manufactured goods, or a so-called plurilateral sectoral agreement between all major car exporters which would cut or eliminate tariffs on automobiles globally.

The overtures are a last-ditch attempt to dissuade him from imposing tariffs on European car exports to the U.S., in what could deal a serious blow to the 28-nation bloc’s economy. The Stoxx 600 Automobiles & Parts Index fell by 1.4 percent at 1:03 p.m. in Brussels ahead of the meeting.

FYI - Ford pick 'em up trucks are No. 1 vehicle sales in America. Ever wonder why?

Tim Tebow's big-league dreams are likely dashed, but deserve our respect

The one-time football sensation was derided when he signed a minor-league contract with the Mets to chase a new dream, but Tebow’s improbable if modest success deserves our appreciation

Source: The Guardian, by Les Carpenter

For all the gifs and memes and fragments of an Internet broken by his prodigious swings, Tim Tebow turned out to be a decent baseball player. Probably not a great prospect at 30 years old, but good enough to show that his second sports career wasn’t a joke.

His best shot at a cup of coffee in the major leagues most likely ended with Monday’s diagnosis of a broken wrist. At the time he had been playing for the New York Mets Class-AA team, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, two levels below the big leagues. And the fact he was hitting a respectable .273 with six home runs and a .734 OPS, along with the prospect of the Mets finishing a dreary season in an empty Citi Field, gave legitimacy to the idea he could be called up to the majors when the rosters are expanded to 40 players in September – if for no other reason than to sell tickets.

With the Mets hoping to rebuild for next year, relying on the promise of new, young players, not former football stars in their fourth decade of life, the window on Tebow’s big league dreams almost certainly slammed shut the moment his wrist cracked last Friday night. But if this is the end for Tebow and baseball, we should appreciate what he has done. He has proven himself to be a sports renaissance man.

*****

When you strip away the headlines and hysteria and the chuckles and jokes about the packaged, evangelical Tebow we are left with a man who loves sports so much he was determined to keep playing, even when the world told him to stop. A little more than 30 years into a life lived in bold type, he has been an NFL quarterback, an excellent television analyst and a minor league baseball player who almost proved he deserved a chance at the big leagues.

Not a bad sports life at all.

'Yellowstone' Becomes Second Most Watched Scripted Series On Basic Cable, Hits New Ratings Highs

If you like "modern Western genre" you'll like this!

Source: Yahoo Entertainment, by Nellie Andreeva

Three episodes into its run, Paramount Network’s breakout new drama Yellowstone is the second most watched TV series on ad-supported cable to air in 2018, only behind juggernaut The Walking Dead.

Over its first three episodes, the series starring Kevin Costner has averaged 4.6 million viewers in Live+3. The drama had held steady in the ratings and even growing in key demographics. The most recent third episode, entitled No Good Horses, set records in adults 18-49 (1.3), adults 25-54 (1.9) and women 25-54 (1.7).

The series premiere of Yellowstone drew nearly 5 million viewers in Live+3, making it the top summer drama series debut on cable or broadcast. It was also ad-supported cable’s most-watched scripted drama series premiere since FX’s The People v O.J. Simpson in 2016 (8.3 million) and eclipsed the two previous launches on the six-month old Paramount Network, Waco and American Woman, both of which had posted respectable numbers.

From Oscar-nominated writer/executive producer Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Costner), who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, which is under constant attack by those it borders — land developers, an Indian reservation and America’s first National Park. Cast also includes Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Dave Annable, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Danny Huston, Gil Birmingham, Josh Lucas, Jefferson White, Gretchen Mol, Jill Hennessey, Patrick St. Esprit, Ian Bohen, Heather Hemmons, Denim Richards, and Michael Nouri.
