A retrospective look at the month of July, as Trump careened around the world without a decipherable game plan:

"The Helsinki press conference brought into sharp relief perhaps the central enigma about Trump: what is he trying to encompass with his unabated Putin groveling? One reason why the Putin must have something on him theory (that underlies the collusion hysteria) has such force is that no one in Trumpworld has been able to offer a sensible alternative theory that explains any of his actions. The press conference in which Trump backed Putins assessment of Russias interference in U.S. elections (none) over his own intelligence communitys unanimous assessment (yes, to the max) was a stunner. There simply was no reason why Trump could not have at least chastised Putin publicly for the interference; doubtless thats what Putin might have reasonably been expecting. And in the aftermath of outrage, in trying a rare walk back of his performance, Trump proved himself a parser on par with the master himself, Bill Clinton, in dissecting the difference between would and wouldnt as if that one syllable change tidily clarified his obsequious behavior throughout the entire press conference..."

BTRTN's Complete List of Every Outrage Committed By Donald Trump Since His Inaugural

"...And when this happens, we leave subjects that should have been pursued more relentlessly. Latter day Woodwards and Bernsteins jump to the next crisis, rather than chasing down the last one. And we, the citizens of this country, forget these horrors as they overwhelm us even those of us who oppose Trump vehemently. What agreements did Trump actually make in Helsinki with Putin? What happened to those separated immigrant children? Why was sexual harasser Bill Shine allowed to be hired by the White House? Can we go back, please, before we move on?
We've compiled a list of, in our view, every significant outrageous event that has occurred since the Trump Inaugural in January, 2017. The list is meant to include unique events, so it does not repeat statements (enemy of the state, fake news). Yes, it includes some of Trump's more egregious lies. But, more importantly, it is a reminder of the outrages that may have been lost in the fog...."

BTRTN 2018 Senate Snapshot #3: The Most Complete State-by-State 2018 Senate Election Round-Up

"While on the surface this looks reasonably promising for the Dems, the odds continue to be strongly in favor of the GOP maintaining control of the Senate. There is a path to success for the Dems, and just as Trump found the 78,000 votes he needed to prevail in 2016, so could the Dems in 2018. But right now we peg those odds at a mere 20%. Why so low when the races themselves are adding up to 50 to 50? Basically, there are 12 races in play, where the margins are either miniscule (toss ups) or close (leaning) and we have the Democrats leading in 8 of these 12. It is a daunting proposition to pull off such a feat, and the odds are against it..."

Question: Shouldn't the Dem Strategy on Kavanaugh Be to Delay Until Past the Midterms?
Use the millions of documents as a way to stretch it all out? That takes the pressure off the three Senators up for re-election who voted for Gorsuch (Manchin, Heitkamp, Donnelly). And then you have to pressure Collins and Murkowsky. Is this possible? If so, why not, if only to punish McConnell for the Merritt Garland fiasco. Is this right?

"...With all this going on, political analysts sternly forecast that this would be Trumps Katrina. It was an easy memory hop to recall a disengaged George W. Bush peering down from Air Force One from 35,000 feet on a desperate New Orleans, and backslapping hapless FEMA director Michael Brown (Brownie, youre doing a heck of a job) when it was abundantly clear that a disaster was unfolding. But as of months end, Trump appears to have lost only two points with the family separation fiasco, as his supporters found many ways to excuse him. Trump ended the month with a 43% approval rating, which has been about the norm for 2018. Bush lost at least five points from Katrina..."
