grossproffit's JournalAnti-Semitism on rise in Berlin schools
A small-scale study by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) appears to show an increase in anti-Semitism in the German capital's schools, alongside an increase in Salafist tendencies.
Researchers asked 27 teachers from 21 schools in Berlin about the trend, with teaching staff saying they had noted a rise in the number of incidents.
Teachers said the abuse often came from pupils following a strict interpretation of Islam, with the use of anti-Semitic insults - particularly the word "Jew" as a term of abuse - against girls, homosexual students and secular Muslims.
"Anti-Semitism is part of Salafist ideology," said Berger. The AJC director said there was a need for dialogue on the Middle East in schools, adding that many teachers preferred to avoid difficult discussions. While information about the problem was previously sparse, the study's authors said there had already been "warnings from individual teachers and experts over the increasing spread of different forms of Salafism in Berlin schools."

*The Salafi movement or Salafist movement or Salafism is an ultra-conservative reform branch or movement within Sunni Islam that developed in Arabia in the first half of the 18th century against a background of European colonialism. It advocated a return to the traditions of the "devout ancestors"
Journalist Who Exposed Chicago Dyke March Details Their Anti-Semitic Harassment Over Her Reporting
Last month, the Chicago Dyke March, a far-left alternative to the citys main Pride parade, expelled several Jews for hoisting Jewish pride flags featuring the Star of David. The march claimed they were merely being anti-Zionist, despite the fact that the Jewish star on the flag far predates the state of Israel. The incident came to the publics attention through the on-the-ground reporting of Gretchen Hammond, an award-winning transgender reporter for the LGBT-focused newspaper, the Windy City Times. Yet following her explosive scoop, Hammond was quickly removed from reporting duty following outcry from the Dyke March and its sympathizers.
The paper denied the pressure had anything to do with Hammonds demotion, but over the weekend, the reporter finally opened up about the hailstorm of hate that enveloped her after her story was published. Speaking at a journalism gala in New York on Thursday, Hammond talked about being silenced first as a transgender person as a child, and then as a reporter this past month:
That very evening, the Dyke March tweeted a neo-Nazi slur, defended it, then deleted it. This explicit expression of anti-Semitic bigotry from the march prompted Hammond to open up about similar abuse shed received from them after publishing her story. Writing on Facebook on Monday about the Dyke Marchs Twitter slur, Hammond commented:
"Not remotely surprised and thoroughy [sic] disgusted. They attacked me in much the same manner only using words like k*ke and also said they would make sure your bitch ass never writes in Chicago again. Selfishly, I could claim to be vindicated by this disgusting tweet but I feel no cause for anything but the deepest shame that I ever was associated by acronym or by requirement to such vile hatred."

French president Macron condemns anti-Zionism as a new form of anti-Semitism
French president Emmanuel Macron condemns anti-Zionism as a new form of anti-Semitism, in what observers says is an unprecedented statement from the leader of France in support of the Jewish state.
We will never surrender to the messages of hate; we will not surrender to anti-Zionism because it is a reinvention of anti-Semitism, Macron says at an event in Paris attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During a lengthy and introspective speech marking the 75th anniversary of the Vel dHiv roundup, a mass arrest of over 13,000 French Jews in July 1942 that was part of the Nazi effort to eradicate Frances Jews, Macron forcefully denounces Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism.
Like several of his predecessors, he accepts Frances responsibility for the deportations, admitting that the Vichy regime actively organized them.

New Report shows Hate Crimes against Jews in the UK surged by 44% in last 2 years. Worst ever.

New figures obtained from all UK police forces by Campaign Against Antisemitism for its National Antisemitic Crime Audit show that hate crime targeting Jews has escalated for the third year running, reaching the worst level on record.
Antisemitic hate crime has surged 44% since 2014, making 2016 the worst year on record
1 in 10 antisemitic crimes were violent but only one violent antisemitic crime was prosecuted in 2016
Almost half of police forces did not charge a single one of the antisemitic crimes reported to them
Only 1.4% of antisemitic crime was prosecuted just 15 cases last year
The Home Secretary has issued a statement promising to consider the reports recommendations carefully
In 2016, antisemitic crime rose by 14.9% against 2015, or 44.5% against 2014. There were 1,078 antisemitic crimes in 2016 and a consistently elevated level of antisemitic crime has become the new normality for British Jews.

House rejects attempt to ban transgender surgery for troops
The Republican-led House narrowly rejected a measure on Thursday that sought to strike an Obama-era practice of requiring the Pentagon to pay for gender transition surgeries and hormone therapy.
Democrats described the proposal as bigoted, unconstitutional and cowardly and they won support from 24 GOP lawmakers to scuttle the amendment to the annual defense policy bill, 214-209.
The amendment crafted by Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Mo., would have forbid money from being spent by the militarys health care system for medical treatment related to gender transition. Hartzler portrayed her proposal as a good government plan aimed at assuring military dollars are spent only on critical national defense needs.

The close vote nonetheless underscored the zeal with which a number of Republicans are seizing opportunities to reverse what they cast as President Barack Obamas social engineering of the armed forces. Transgender service members have been able to serve openly in the military since last year, when former Defense Secretary Ash Carter ended the ban.

UAE slams Al-Jazeera for anti-Semitism over imams sermons (Inciting violence/Holocaust denial)
Also posted in General Discussions:
A top UAE official on Wednesday accused Qatari broadcast giant Al-Jazeera of anti-Semitism, discrimination and inciting religious hate, in a rebuttal to UN accusations of attacking freedom of expression.
The United Arab Emirates state minister for foreign affairs, Anwar Gargash, hit back in a letter to UN rights chief Zeid Raad Al Hussein.
In it, Gargash wrote that Al-Jazeera had promoted anti-Semitic violence by broadcasting sermons by the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi.
Qaradawi, he added, had praised Hitler, described the Holocaust as divine punishment, and called on Allah to take this oppressive, Jewish, Zionist band of people
and kill them, down to the very last one.'

Some background on Al-Qaradawi, Sheikh Dr Yusuf here:
Perhaps the most dangerous of such fatwas are those issued by influential clerics such as Yusuf Al Qaradawi, one of the Muslim worlds most prominent theologians. Sheikh Al Qaradawi, an Egyptian who heads the International Union of Muslim Scholars, has a rich legacy of advocating for the integration of Muslims into the modern world. He fought against extremist views and wrote several books addressing troubling trends in Muslim societies.
Recently, however, he has dedicated most of his public appearances to making political and religious statements that threaten to entrench radicalism within Muslim societies in the region and beyond. As a result, commentators in sections of the Arabic media started discussing a key part of the clerics legacy, namely issuing fatwas that sanction violence and stoke sectarian and religious hatred. Commentators have called on the cleric to consider the impact of his fatwas on the dozens of civilians across the region dying in suicide bombings that occur almost weekly.

Journalist Who Broke Jewish Women Barred From Chicago Dyke March Removed From Reporting Duties
Award-Winning Journalist Who Broke Story of Jewish Women Barred From Chicago Dyke March Removed From Reporting DutiesAn award-winning journalist who broke the story of the group of Jewish women ejected from an LGBTQ march in Chicago last month has been reassigned to non-journalistic duties at the paper which ran the original report, the Windy City Times.
Gretchen Rachel Hammond whose June 24 story caused a national storm after she detailed how three women flying Jewish Pride flags embossed with the Star of David were instructed to leave the gathering by organizers from the Dyke March Collective confirmed to The Algemeiner on Monday that while she was still employed by the paper, she was not presently engaged in its reporting and writing operations.
At this time, I have not been fired from Windy City Times, but I have been transferred to working full time for the sales department, Hammond explained in an emailed statement. The reasoning is an internal matter and I have been instructed not to comment about it even to close friends. Given my present situation, I must comply with this instruction.
The Windy City Times whose masthead featured Hammond as a senior writer until a week ago now describes her as senior account executive.
