Jewish boys taunted in shocking cases of anti-Semitic bullying at Melbourne schools

A 12-year-old Jewish student was forced to kneel down and kiss the shoes of a Muslim classmate, while a five-year-old boy was allegedly called a "Jewish cockroach" and repeatedly hounded in the school toilets by his young classmates.

The two incidents this year – the first involving a year 7 boy at Cheltenham Secondary College and the second a prep student at Hawthorn West Primary School – have prompted the Anti-Defamation Commission to sound an alarm about what it says is a "rapidly spreading" crisis involving anti-Semitic bullying in Victorian state schools.

Both boys, whose parents have asked to remain anonymous, have since left the schools where the incidents occurred, with the five-year-old boy currently being home schooled.

The older boy’s act of kissing another student’s shoes, under threat of being swarmed by several other boys, was filmed, photographed and shared on social media.

No disciplinary action has been taken against the group of boys involved in the incident, which took place in a public park.

Tufts University Jewish student finds swastika affixed to door

A Jewish student found a swastika attached to their door on Sunday night, an email from University President Anthony Monaco this morning said.

“I condemn this cowardly act of hatred and ignorance. It is a direct attack on our Jewish community and an affront to our values as an institution,” the email read.

According to the email, the incident occurred Sunday night, and both Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) and the Office of Equal Opportunity are investigating. TUPD couldn’t comment on the situation in a meeting with the Daily this morning due to its ongoing nature.

“Any member of our community who is found to be responsible will face disciplinary sanctions consistent with our University policies against discrimination, bias, and hate,” Monaco’s email said.

"Imagine a World without Jews" Hofstra University professor

After telling a professor I would need to miss class for the Jewish high holidays, I was told I needed to re-evaluate my religious beliefs. That same professor told the class to imagine a world without Jews in it.

Later, a student compared the Jewish tradition of marrying within the religion to Nazi eugenics. When I approached the aforementioned professor after class to tell her how uncomfortable the comments had me feel, I was essentially told to be less sensitive.

Then, just three days after the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh in which 11 Jews were shot attending services, another professor asked the class to discuss whether the shooter was “truly evil.” Many students expressed the belief that the shooter, who murdered 11 innocent Jewish people, could not be considered evil as he did what he believed was right.

On another occasion, a classmate told me it was no longer important to learn about the Holocaust since everyone knows about it already. I disagreed, citing a statistic stating that over a third of people in major European cities do not know about Auschwitz, the largest concentration camp in Nazi Germany. She replied, “Of course Europeans wouldn’t know about that, the Holocaust is American history.”

It's time to start suing the crap out of these universities.

Holocaust survivors have home ransacked as antisemitic incidents hit new record in UK

Holocaust survivors had their home ransacked and sprayed with graffiti in one of a record number of antisemitic incidents reported in the UK.

The Community Security Trust (CST) said the elderly couple returned from holiday in April to find the house “ransacked and desecrated” with “c*** Jews” scrawled in large letters across their living room wall.

Other incidents saw Jewish victims punched, kicked or pelted with stones, bottles and eggs, while swastikas and slogans including “gas the Jews” were sprayed on buildings.

The CST, which monitors antisemitism and provides security for Jewish communities, recorded a total of 892 incidents in the first six months of this year – a 10 percent increase on last year and a new record.

Unfucking believable. It's open season on Jewish people and nobody gives a fuck.

'We no longer feel comfortable in our own shul'

When Rabbi Mark Rosenberg’s family played back the footage on their home’s security cameras in North Miami Beach, they could hear the rat-tat-tat of bullets being fired at the synagogue a few blocks away. On Sunday, a man had been shot repeatedly in front of the Young Israel of Greater Miami as he waited for daily services.

On Saturday, Rosenberg attended services, and sat on that very bench, outside the synagogue’s front door. A pro-bono police chaplain, he got a call the following evening from the police, and was up into the early morning dealing with the shooting’s aftermath.

The victim, Yosef Lipschutz, has had multiple surgeries and is in stable condition. The perpetrator is at large, and police have yet to determine if the shooting was an anti-Semitic hate crime.

On Sunday, Lipschutz was getting ready to enter the synagogue when a man who appeared to be in his 20s got out of his car, advanced toward the bench and began shooting at Lipschutz, according to Rosenberg. Lipschutz reportedly dove behind the bench — possibly saving his life — until the shooting stopped 20 or 30 seconds later. The perpetrator then got back in his car.

So, this is what's happening in 2019 USA. Jews being gunned down in broad daylight and barely a peep out of anyone. I'm so angry and I get angrier by the day. Jew hate is rampant and it's becoming more and more comfortable for Jew haters to feel at home spewing their antisemitic hate.

'There was a swastika in the library' The truth about anti-Semitism at universities in the UK

“I was standing at the Jewish Society stall in my student union, when someone came up to me and said, ‘Can I ask you a question?’” recalls Bradley Langer, president of the society.

“They said, ‘I've been told the Jews control the media – is that true?’ When I told them no, they answered with another strange question, ‘Do you have all the money in the world?’ I stared at them, taken aback, and finally answered, ‘If I did, why would I be standing here?’”

Bradley, 22, the current president of Coventry University's Jewish Society, says he found the encounter unnerving. “It was the first time I'd heard anyone utter those sorts of conspiracy theories to my face. You hear about people saying anti-Semitic things on the news and you think, ‘Who would actually believe that?’ Hearing it face to face is quite shocking.”

Bradley’s shock turned to anger when earlier this year, reports of apparent anti-Semitism among his fellow students made headlines. In February, members of a Coventry university sports club went on a night out wearing t-shirts with anti-Semitic slogans written on them.

It wasn’t the first time something like this had made the news. In October 2018, the Conservative Society at the University of Plymouth was suspended after a similar incident. According to the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), the umbrella organisation for all 60 of the UK’s university Jewish societies, there have been reports of two other instances of anti-Semitism at “white t-shirt parties” in this academic year.

Bradley only became aware of what had happened when a friend sent him a link to a Facebook post showing the students out partying in the t-shirts – one of which had the words “the Jews deserved it” scrawled on it.

Adidas under fire for racist tweets after botched Arsenal launch

Adidas UK has come under fire after a social media gambit backfired spectacularly, leading to the company tweeting out pictures of its shirts with racist and offensive slogans on the back.

The error came as Adidas launched a social media campaign, #DareToCreate, in conjunction with its release of the new Arsenal home kit.

People were encouraged to share a tweet advertising the brand using the hashtag, which automatically created an image of the new Arsenal strip emblazoned with the Twitter handle of the account.

The image, along with the message “This is home. Welcome to the squad”, and an encouragement to buy the strip, was then tweeted out by the official @AdidasUK account.

However, the promotional campaign was hijacked by people with offensive or insensitive Twitter handles, including @GasAllJewss, @MadelineMcCann, and @96wasnotenough.

The images of the offensive handles on Arsenal shirts were retweeted widely.

The offensive tweets were posted from the @AdidasUK account late on Monday night and were still visible on Twitter through the early hours of the morning, but have since been removed.

Acclaimed Novelist Rejected by Two Cultural Organisations Because of His Jewish Faith

An old friend of mine who is a part-time book publicist began trying to set up events for me three months earlier.

In early March, he called and confessed – in a distressed tone I’d never heard before – that he had just been turned down by two cultural organisations that had previously shown enthusiasm for hosting an event with me. “They asked me if you were Jewish, and the moment I said you were, they lost all interest,” he said. “They even stopped replying to my emails and returning my phone messages.”

I’ll call my publicist John as he prefers to remain anonymous. He has also asked me to refrain from identifying the organisations that reacted negatively to my being Jewish. John told me that the final conversations he had with the two event co-ordinators convinced him that they weren’t antisemitic themselves but they feared a backlash – protests by their members and others – if they extended an invitation to a Jewish writer.

After our phone conversation, I was deeply shocked and upset. Facing discrimination is always unpleasant and infuriating and I never expected that my career in the UK would be prejudiced by my being Jewish. It made Britain seem like a place I didn’t know and maybe never knew. Even just asking about my religious affiliation struck me as outrageous. The situation seemed particularly ironic because I have long endeavoured in my novels to give voice to people who have been systematically silenced by prejudice and bigotry. Obviously, I do not believe that anyone benefits when writers are censored for their ethnicity or faith.

New Survey Shows Rise in Number of Americans Who Believe Refusing Service to Jews Should Be Allowed

A new survey showed a rise in the number of Americans who said small businesses should have the right to refuse service to Jews if doing so would violate the owners’ religious beliefs.

Conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute, which has partnered with the Brookings Institution and Georgetown University, the survey revealed that 19 percent of Americans felt discrimination against Jews on religious grounds was acceptable.

This marked a seven-percent rise since 2014 when only 12 percent agreed.

According to the data, 24 percent of Republicans, 17 percent of Democrats, and 16 percent of independents said such discrimination should be permitted.

In 2014, only 16 percent of Republicans and nine percent of Democrats did so.

Iraqi man with kippah and knives stopped at entrance to Antwerp synagogue

A non-Jewish Arab man wearing a kippah and carrying several concealed knives was intercepted by guards as he attempted to enter an Antwerp synagogue.

The 34-year-old Iraqi citizen was questioned by guards when he tried to enter the Romi Goldmuntz Synagoge in the Belgian city on Monday, during the holiday of Shavuot, the Joodse Actueel newspaper reported Tuesday. The man said he spoke neither Hebrew nor Yiddish but insisted he was a member of the city’s Jewish community, the report said, citing police sources.

The guards — members of the community’s Shmira security service — had approached the man with some suspicion because they saw him arrive on a bicycle, a means of transportation that few observant Jews in Antwerp use on Jewish holidays.
