I am deeply disappointed in my fellow Americans tonight. The suffering that will ensue was

and is mostly entirely preventable. So I am disappointed that we shall have to endure this suffering for at least 2 years now because Americans could not see through the lies sold to them by this pack of charlatans, demagogues and scalawags. Yes, the Democrats largely ran away from President Obama after allowing the Republicans to frame the race as "Obama, Obama, Obama" and that bespeaks a party in trouble. But in the final analysis, voters chose to vote against their self-interest and against the interest of their compatriots for what? To 'send a message' to Dems? The reality is that things will not get better in the next two years. They will get worse and possibly much, much worse. And so I am disappointed that my fellow Americans chose a path that will cause suffering for their countrymen when I have to believe most of them did not seek to cause such suffering.

In Shakespeare's Macbeth, the prince and heir apparent tells MacDuff (whose wife and children have just been killed by MacBeth's henchmen) to 'Dispute it like a man.' MacDuff replies that he intends to but that first he must 'feel it like a man.' That is what I am doing tonight, feeling it 'like a man.' I am feeling disappointment.

If there are no indictments (state or federal) in the Michael Brown murder, what

sorts of civil disobedience should protesters engage in?

Myself, I'm leaning towards suggesting protesters go to the predominantly white, upper middle-class suburbs of St. Louis County and render them impassable to vehicular traffic.

Just saw a post in LBN that there are no federal civil rights charges expected:

This is fucking outrageous.

Can someone please explain to me why the Republican Party still enjoys

support in the 35-50% range, year in and year out?

Logic says the Republicans deserve no more than 5-10% of the electorate's support and that the real battles should be between centrist Dems and progressive Dems (Socialists and other points left).

I'm sure there's some reason for this surprising resilience to Americans' support for Republicans, but I just don't get it. I really don't.

What explains Republicans' continuing appeal to large swaths of the American electorate?

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is fabricating quotes and mis-quoting those it interviews

about the leaked Michael Brown autopsy report.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/10/23/1338661/-The-Official-Michael-Brown-Autopsy-Report-Doesn-t-Say-What-the-St-Louis-Post-Dispatch-Says-It-Does

The Post-Dispatch now has about as much credibiltiy left as Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson. That is, ZERO!

We should talk about the 'why'.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch owes the family of Michael Brown, the people of St. Louis and the people of this nation an abject apology for its utterly shoddy journalism. I will no longer read, nor will I cite, this publication or any of its work, barring a full retraction of the absurd quotes they ascribe to Dr. Melinek (and the concomitant character assassination they perform on Mike Brown).

Private autopsy claims Vonderrit Myers shot while fleeing

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch

A preliminary, private autopsy of Vonderrit D. Myers Jr. shows that six of the eight shots hit the back of his legs, and a fatal round struck him between his right eyebrow and his ear, a pathologist said Thursday.

Dr. Cyril H. Wecht said that his examination of the body, a visit to the site of the shooting and witness statements conveyed to him via lawyers for the Myers family led him to conclude that Myers was shot Oct. 8 while fleeing up a steep hill. All but one of the wounds hit Myers in his legs, and several had upward trajectories. Wecht said that he was unable to determine the order in which the shots struck Myers, but said that the leg wound would have felled the 18-year-old immediately. The head wound would have rendered him unconscious.

Jerryl Christmas, one of the Myers family lawyers, said that witnesses have told their investigator that Myers was fleeing, and that he was "begging for his life" before the officer walked up and delivered the final shot. Christmas and lawyer Jermaine Wooten said that they believe that crippling leg shot came between the fourth and seventh shots, and that the head wound was the final shot.

They deny police claims that Myers had a gun and fired at least three shots at the officer before he returned fire.

In news from the other extra-judicial St. Louis police death squad execution.

I hope the U.S. Department of Justice is keeping a close eye on this case as well. It stinks to high heaven.

State Sen. Nasheed arrested at protest in Ferguson

Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch

State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed was taken into custody Monday night in front of the Ferguson police station after she walked in the street when police told protesters not to do so, a police spokesman said.

St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman confirmed that Nasheed, D-St. Louis, was arrested along with a man she showed up with about 8:30 p.m.

If you're an unarmed black male teen, you get shot dead.
If you're an elected MO legislator, you get arrested.

But you'd better do what the Ferguson PD tells you to do, see, or you're taking your life and liberty into your hands.

Police arrest two Ferguson protesters in clash with Rams fans

Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch

Rams fans and Ferguson protesters fought Sunday afternoon outside the Edward Jones Dome after the Rams secured a victory over the visiting Seattle Seahawks.

About 3 p.m. Sunday, a handful of fans argued with protesters, who were yelling and chanting, near the intersection of North Broadway and Cole streets.

St. Louis police arrested two protesters. One was a 49-year-old woman. The other was her 17-year-old daughter. Police did not release the names of the women.

The older woman was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault. She also was arrested for one count of third-degree assault after punching a woman, 55, in the eye. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.

In the video clip at the bottom of this piece, the reporters interview St. Louis (City) Police Chief Dotson who notes that last Monday's protest was non-violent but this protest has escalated matters somewhat.

I salute and support the courage and fortitude of the Ferguson Resistance.

St. Louis can have its racism and white supremacy OR it can have its professional sports. But it CAN'T HAVE BOTH!

St. Louis County District Attorney Robert McCulloch should recuse himself from the

Grand Jury proceedings into the shooting death of Michael Brown immediately.

When the Brown case has reached a final disposition, McCulloch will still have to work with St. Louis-area law enforcement. He can thus ill afford to be seen as seeking Wilson's indictment as aggressively as he would were the alleged shooter John Q. Public. Perceptions cut both ways. How can any African American or person of color trust the results of a Grand Jury presided over by someone so manifestly in the pocket of the cops?

It is in the best interests of all that McCulloch recuse himself immediately so that Governor Nixon can appoint a special prosecutor, one with no ties to St. Louis-area law enforcement to conduct the inquiry before the Grand Jury.

I am surprised that President Obama and Atty. General Holder have not landed on McCulloch like a ton of bricks to make this case already.

Question about Ebola's course in Africa from a non-scientific layperson:

When will the outbreak in Africa end? Do viruses like Ebola go through a cycle and then abate on their own? It seems to me the world has an interest in seeing to it that the epidemic is not only contained as much as is humanly possible but also eradicated. But, as a layperson with absolutely no background in any of the relevant disciplines, I'm unclear how the epidemic will play out in Africa.
