Cheese Sandwich's JournalHomeless Man Owes Government Over $110,000 In Fines For Being Homeless
Montreal's homeless owed the city $15 million in outstanding fines, according to 2012 study
When he approached Droits Devant for help, Guimond-Bélanger said his file showed repeated fines for sleeping in the subway, begging for money, and drinking in public "things that someone who doesn't have a home has to do in the public space," she said.
"He had received around 500 of them [tickets]. I could see that most of the time he would receive many in the same week, sometimes by the same officers as well."
...
Though the $110,000 in accumulated fines is higher than usual, Guimond-Bélanger said this case is indicative of a larger issue.
"It's very common, to a point where I would say it's a systematic experience for homeless people."
She said some homeless people get tickets every week sometimes every day.

Cannabis Grower, Dispensaries to Donate One-Tenth of Sales to Bernie Sanders Campaign
Two affiliated Oregon-certified, OMMP-compliant marijuana dispensaries, along with a cannabis grower, have reportedly teamed up to donate 10 percent of their sales of a particular cannabis product to Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. Given Bernie Sanders support of removing marijuana from the DEAs Schedule I, both the owners of the dispensaries and the cannabis grower have pledged 5 percent of the sale of a particular cannabis to total 10 percent of the consumers purchase price to be donated to Bernies presidential run, KATU Channel 2 News reported.
Dispensaries Foster Buds and Glisan Buds will donate 5 percent from each sale of premium cone from Farmer 12, according to Facebook posts. Meanwhile, the actual marijuana grower, Farmer 12, will also donate 5 percent until they both individually meet the donation limit. Foster Buds will also be giving away a free Bern one for Bernie T-shirt with the purchases of the premium cone, according to posts on the facilitys Facebook page.
On July 1, 2015, recreational marijuana became legal in Oregon, according to Foster Buds. Customers are allowed to possess up to one ounce of marijuana in public and up to eight ounces of the plant at home. Users are also permitted to grow up to four plants per household, according to the dispensary.
Foster Buds owners wrote of the joint pledge to donate one-tenth of the sale of the Farmer 12 joints on Instagram and explained the reason.
The cannabis community has never been appropriately represented or considered on a federal stage. Cannabis enthusiasts, supporters, and medical patients come from every walk of life now, and we all deserve a President who will rally to reschedule cannabis and transform Americas Cannabis policies. We believe Bernie Sanders is the best and most likely candidate to appropriately represent the needs of our community.

"Why These Ferguson Activists Are Voting For Bernie Sanders"
ST. LOUIS -- Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) may be losing out to Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton with minority voters, but three Ferguson activists he invited to speak at an Illinois rally Friday say they're definitely "feeling the Bern."
Bruce Franks, the founder of 28 to Life, an organization that focuses on youth empowerment and police relations with communities, talked about losing his brother to gun violence at the packed rally inside Southern Illinois University Edwardsville basketball stadium....
Cori Bush, another activist-turned politician, spoke at the rally about being tear-gassed in Ferguson and the importance of standing against social injustice.
For some reason, my brown lips and my dark skin says that I must make less money than my counterparts and I dont understand that, said the single mother, ordained pastor and nurse, who is running as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Alisha Sonnier, the president of Tribe X, the grassroots activist organization born out of the Ferguson protests, compared Clinton to an old pair of shoes that are loved, but can give calluses, as she urged voters at the rally to canvass for Sanders.
I never thought that someone would invite me -- someone whos well-known for shutting things down and for being involved in Ferguson. But to me, its a step toward the right direction, the 20-year-old student told HuffPost after her speech in front of thousands of cheering Sanders supporters.

The FBI's New Plan to Spy on High School Students: Targets include Muslims, anarchists, activists
Targets to include Muslims, anarchists, environmental and animal rights activists.
Based on the widely unpopular British anti-terror mass surveillance program, the FBIs "Preventing Violent Extremism in Schools" guidelines, released in January, are almost certainly designed to single out and target Muslim-American communities. However, in its caution to avoid the appearance of discrimination, the agency identifies risk factors that are so broad and vague that virtually any young person could be deemed dangerous and worthy of surveillance, especially if she is socio-economically marginalized or politically outspoken.
This overwhelming threat is then used to justify a massive surveillance apparatus, wherein educators and pupils function as extensions of the FBI by watching and informing on each other.
The FBIs justification for such surveillance is based on McCarthy-era theories of radicalization, in which authorities monitor thoughts and behaviors that they claim to lead to acts of violent subversion, even if those people being watched have not committed any wrongdoing. This model has been widely discredited as a violence prevention method, including by the U.S. government, but it is now being imported to schools nationwide as official federal policy.

Sanders slams Clinton, Trump, Wall Street in speech at SIUE
Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Regarding Clinton, whom Sanders is battling for the Democratic presidential nomination, he took a jab at her high-dollar contributions from Wall Street, and repeated his demand that she release the contents of paid speeches she has made to the corporate world.
If youre going to get paid $225,000 (for a speech), it must be a really terrific speech, Sanders joked with the frenzied audience. Its surely a speech you want to share with the American people, right?
He also tweaked GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, pointing to polls showing Sanders would defeat Trump by a wider margin than Clinton would in a general election.
We will defeat Trump because in America, people understand that bringing our people together is more important than Trumps divisiveness, he said. Love trumps hatred.

From the New York Times:
Sanders Blasts Clinton’s Support for Job-Killing Trade Deals
MARCH 3, 2016
LANSING, Mich. Bernie Sanders on Thursday said U.S. trade policies, supported by Hillary Clinton, have devastated Michigans economy and led to the disappearance of automobile and other manufacturing jobs.
A campaign is not about what you said yesterday. It is about what you have stood for your entire career. On one of the most important issues facing working people, Secretary Hillary Clinton and I have very different points of view, Sanders said. She was very, very wrong and millions of families across the country have been suffering.
Sanders opposed and Clinton backed trade deals which contributed to the loss of nearly 60,000 factories in the United States and almost 5 million manufacturing jobs over the last 15 years. She supported and Sanders opposed the North American Free Trade Agreement. She supported and Sanders opposed permanent normal trade relations with China. She also recently boasted about her role as secretary of state in brokering a trade agreement with South Korea, which increased the U.S. trade deficit and hurt Michigan auto exports.
Today, Sanders is leading the opposition in Congress to a proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership which Clinton once called the gold standard in trade agreements. While she has shifted stands recently, Sanders noted that Thomas Donahue, the head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, predicted she would do another about-face and support the business-backed deal if she wins the White House.
Michigan has been hit especially hard by a failed trade policy, which led to the state losing 33 percent of its manufacturing jobs in the past 15 years. Detroit, once the richest city in the United States in the 1960s per capita, today is the poorest. The North American Free Trade Agreement alone led to the loss of 43,000 jobs in Michigan. Permanent normal trade relations with China put another 80,000 Michigan workers out of jobs.
No city in the United States has been more devastated by unfettered free trade than Flint, Michigan. Since 1978, General Motors has eliminated more than 72,000 jobs in Flint and moved several factories to Mexico. Unfettered free trade turned a prosperous middle-class city, where residents could own a home, raise a family and retire with security, into a place where good jobs are scarce and extreme poverty is high, Sanders said. Today, one quarter of Flint residents have an annual income of less than $15,000 and 65 percent of the children live in poverty.
Everyone understands what these disastrous trade agreements are all about. The results are clear. You look at Detroit. Look at Flint. Our trade policies have failed, Sanders said. The truth is that these trade agreements have been a disaster for working families in this country and they have benefited the CEOs of major corporations.
Joining Sanders at the news conference were Larry Cohen, a former Communications Workers of America president and senior adviser on labor issues; Kevin Mack, an executive board member in Detroits an IBEW Local 58; and Kim Ward, former American Axel worker and UAW member. I loved my job. I was able to provide for my family and put a roof over their heads, Ward said. We had a good thing going. We raised our family together. Then the company wanted to slash pay in half and cut benefits. The workers went on strike but eventually made concessions. Still, the company moved the plant to Mexico. A lot of lives were destroyed by what happened and its not fair, she said.
