Charge: Bernie Sanders supporter threatens to cut out Rep. McDermott's tongue

http://komonews.com/news/local/charge-bernie-sanders-supporter-threatens-to-cut-out-rep-mcdermotts-tongue

BY LEVI PULKKINEN

SEATTLE - A Seattle man accused of threatening to cut out U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott's tongue now faces felony charges.

King County prosecutors claim Jasper K. Bell made the threat because he was upset that McDermott, D-Seattle, was supporting Hillary Clinton for president. Currently jailed, Bell, 27, has been charged with intimidating a public servant and telephone harassment.

Bell had been fixated on McDermott for some time before the April 22 incident that saw him charged, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Susan Storey said in court paper. Bell is alleged to have made threatening calls to McDermott before arriving at his Seattle office that day.

"In one phone call he demanded the congressman's home address and threatened to cut his tongue out," Storey said in charging papers. "In another call he stated that the congressman would not be safe, even after he retires."

McDermott, a long-serving liberal, announced in January that he would be retiring after 14 terms in Congress. A competitive primary contest is underway for the seat representing Washington's deep-blue 7th District.

Witnesses at McDermott's downtown Seattle office told police Bell was yelling and spitting, and banging his fists against the office windows. He was arrested hours after that 1 p.m. incident.

McDermott canceled a public appearance due to the threats, Storey said, and had his staff take extra security precautions.

According to charging papers, McDermott told investigators he brought a shovel into his office "to use in self-defense if necessary." The shovel was hidden behind several flags.

The threats prompted Seattle police to station themselves outside McDermott's office and home. Capitol Police officers were flown out from Washington, D.C., to assist in the security operation, which included the FBI.

Writing the court, a Seattle police detective said McDermott's staff in Seattle and the capitol received 23 calls from Bell the day he was arrested. Bell, the detective said, made nonsensical statements before threatening to cut McDermott's tongue out.

"I need to speak to the (expletive) piece of (expletive) now," Bell said in one call, according to charging papers. "I will not be ignored."

Bell is alleged to have then called McDermott's District of Columbia office and made additional threats.

According to charging papers, Bell arrived at McDermott's downtown Seattle office just before 1 p.m. Staff activated an alarm after Bell pounded on office's locked glass doors.

Bell left before police arrived, the detective said, but officers responding to the complaint were at the front desk when Bell called in. An officer answered and spoke briefly with Bell.

"Do you think it is a good idea to threaten the congressman by saying you were going to cut his tongue out?" the officer asked.

"It was appropriate because my voice was being silenced," Bell replied, according to the officer's account.

Police arrested Bell at 8:15 p.m.

Jane Sanders Goes On Fox and Asks FBI to Speed Up Hillary Email Investigation

http://bluenationreview.com/jane-sanders-goes-on-fox-and-asks-fbi-to-speed-up-hillary-email-investigation/

At BNR, we have avoided writing about Jane Sanders despite her ubiquitous presence on cable news as Bernie’s chief surrogate. But today, despite nearly impossible odds for Bernie’s campaign, she has crossed into harshly negative territory against Hillary. We have no choice but to reject these attacks.

Earlier today, Jane Sanders claimed that Bernie’s poor showing among minority voters was because Hillary was the “anointed one.”

Now, we learn that in an appearance on Fox News, she asked the FBI to speed up their investigation of Hillary’s emails, saying “it would be nice if the FBI moved it along.”

This confirms a suspicion I’ve held for months: that one of the reasons Bernie Sanders is keeping his campaign alive is the futile hope that Hillary’s emails will somehow derail her campaign.

But remember what Hillary told Republicans:

Well, Matt, I know they live in that world of fantasy and hope because they’ve got a mess on their hands on the Republican side. That is not going to happen. There is not even the remotest chance that it’s going to happen. Look, they’ve been after me, as I say, for 25 years. They have said things about me repeatedly that have been proven to be not only false but kind of ridiculous. … The Republican’s fondest wishes will not be fulfilled.

Apparently Jane Sanders shares the GOP’s wishes. They won’t be fulfilled either.

Around the world it's Hillary by a landslide. Except for Russia.

As it becomes clear that the General Election will be between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, the international community is reacting to that race in different ways. In most countries Hillary enjoys huge margins of support, enthusiasm for her, while Trump is viewed with fright and disdain. The one notable exception is Putin-led Russia, where Trump seems well regarded.

Around the world, it’s Clinton by a landslide

Highlights:

Surveys overseas show Hillary Clinton is by far the favorite candidate for U.S. president.

Trump scares much of the rest of the world

Europe loves Hillary — except for the Russians

Now that American voters are drawing a clearer outline of November’s presidential contest, the rest of the world’s opinion about who should become the next president of the United States is also turning crystal-clear. With a couple of notable exceptions, the verdict is all-but unanimous: Just about everywhere, people want Hillary Clinton to replace President Obama.

That is the undeniable and overwhelming impression one hears when exploring opinions in different parts of the globe. I heard it asking individuals of a wide variety of backgrounds while traveling in several countries. But don’t take my word for it.

A recent poll of people in 20 countries — the G20 group of the world’s largest economies — confirmed it. In all the countries polled, Clinton beat Trump by wide margins. The only exception was Russia, where Trump beats Hillary by more than 20 points when pollsters asked whom they want to see as the next U.S. president. In China, there’s ambivalence.

Everywhere else, Clinton out polled Trump by enormous margins: in Mexico she beat him by 54 percent, in South Korea by 37, in France by 30, in Japan by 27. The list goes on with similar results from South America to East Asia.

Trump loses everywhere, except for Russia. I suppose Putin’s Trump endorsement helped there.

#WomanCard Is Trending Big

http://bluenationreview.com/womancard-is-trending-big/

Donald Trump accused Hillary Clinton of having nothing going for her but the woman card. His attack has backfired spectacularly—especially after her perfectly executed “deal me in” rejoinder. Now, women everywhere are sharing the #WomanCard hashtag.

#WomanCard is now a top trending topic on Twitter, with legions of women joining Hillary to say “deal me in!”

Clearly, Trump thought he had a winner—but his insistence on using gendered attacks on Hillary has further fired up women to coalesce around her historic candidacy.

In case you, too, want to be dealt in, BNR has created some handy woman cards for you to use!

Share them, tweet them, trade them with your friends… DEAL US IN!

Former Editor-in-Chief Joan Walsh Slams Salon for ‘Idiotic’ Anti-Hillary Piece

http://www.mediaite.com/online/former-editor-in-chief-joan-walsh-slams-salon-for-idiotic-anti-hillary-piece/

by Alex Griswold

Former Salon editor-in-chief Joan Walsh took to Twitter Wednesday to slam her old outlet for publishing an anti-Hillary Clinton column she argued was “idiotic.”

At issue was a piece titled “Please, FBI — you’re our last hope: The Democratic Party’s future rests upon your probe of Hillary Clinton’s emails,” republished from the Huffington Post and written by columnist and Bernie Sanders supporter H. A. Goodman. In his column, Goodman argues that the FBI should speed up its investigation so it ends before primary season.

At this point, Bernie Sanders is the only Democratic candidate not linked to an FBI investigation, yet Clinton is leading in delegates. This dynamic would never take place in any other leading democracy. If David Cameron had been investigated by MI5, rest assured the British would never have allowed him to become leader of his political party, and eventually Prime Minister.

No doubt, you must perform your investigation without political pressure, but the reality is that millions of Bernie Sanders supporters are awaiting your verdict. Millions of independent voters, and millions of Democrats who aren’t voting for Clinton, need to hear your verdict. Needless to say, the Republicans are waiting as well.

Whether or not you recommend indictment, and whether or not you’ve found criminal wrongdoing pertaining to Clinton, should be known before the end of the Democratic Primary. Democrats can’t nominate a person who could potentially face indictment on November 7, 2016.

Needless to say, Walsh was not amused, jokingly threatening to excise Salon from her resume.

I think it's time for me to take @salon off my resume. I'm not linking to that idiotic piece, but y'all know what I'm talking about.

Does a 17-year gap in your journalism career hurt your resume? Asking for a friend @salon.

Liberal Host Cenk Uygur Hangs All of Bernie’s Hopes on ‘Probable’ FBI Indictment of Hillary

http://www.mediaite.com/online/liberal-host-cenk-uygur-hangs-all-of-bernies-hopes-on-probable-fbi-indictment-of-hillary/

by Tommy Christopher

One leading bellwether of the currents in the Bernie Sanders movement is the goings on at liberal online behemoth The Young Turks, which has long been a Bernie bunker headed by relative realist Cenk Uygur and a team that’s closer to Susan Sarandon on the #BernieOrBust spectrum. After the New York primary, Uygur predicted that if Sanders lost in Pennsylvania, it would be all over for Sanders, and after Tuesday night’s near-sweep by Hillary Clinton, he soberly told his viewers that their last vestige of hope for a Sanders victory rests in the hands of the FBI. According to Cenk, an indictment of Hillary Clinton related to the email “scandal” is “probable,” the only questions being whether it’s a felony indictment, and if it occurs before the Democratic National Convention:

As Cenk might say, he’s at a twelve when he really ought to be at a five. For a variety of reasons, this “scandal” will amount to nothing, and if what he says about FBI director James Comey possibly playing anti-Hillary politics with this “investigation” is true, it will be by holding off on concluding it, and allowing Republicans to continue sliding their big fat leaks into the eager mouths of uncritical journalists. In point of fact, there are not “dozens” of FBI agents working on this, there are maybe one dozen, and the review they’re conducting is something that reporters are only pretending not to understand. On any other day and any other topic, they will be the first to tell you that the government is ridiculous with its redaction pen.

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/4/27/1520543/-Hillary-News-Views-4-27-Victory-Speech-and-State-of-the-Primary-Race

By Lysis

Today’s Hillary News & Views covers Clinton’s decisive victories in yesterday’s series of primaries.

Here is the transcript of her victory speech, via Blog 4 President:

Wow. Thank you, Pennsylvania! What a night. I want to thank everyone – I want to thank everyone.

Thank you all so much. Wow. I just want to thank all of you, everyone who came out to vote here in Pennsylvania and across Maryland and Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island. I am so grateful to all our volunteers, our organizers, our community leaders. Everyone who worked their hearts out.

And I want to thank the leaders here in Pennsylvania. Thank you, Governor Wolf. Thank you, Senator Casey. Thank you, Congressman Cartwright. And thank you so much, Mayor Kenney, for your great help. And of course, I want to thank the 42nd President of the United States, my husband.

Now, with your help, we’re going to come back to Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention with the most votes and the most pledged delegates and we will unify our party to win this election and build an America where we can all rise together – an America where we lift each other up instead of tearing each other down.
