Trump Campaign Releases Statement Threatening That Trump Administration Will “Break Up” Media Conglomerates That Have Criticized Trump
The campaign of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump released a statement promising that a Trump presidential administration would “break up” media conglomerates that operate properties that have criticized Trump.
In an October 23 press release signed by senior Trump economics advisor Peter Navarro, the Trump campaign threatened presidential action against “NBC, and its Clinton megaphone MSNBC,” “the wildly anti-Trump CNN,” The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
The statement promised that as president Trump “will break up the new media conglomerate oligopolies that have gained enormous control over our information, intrude into our personal lives, and in this election, are attempting to unduly influence America’s political process.”

In the minutes before the third and final Presidential debate, Donald Trump went live on Facebook in what may have been the inaugural broadcast of a forthcoming Trump News Network.
A little after 8:30 P.M., Trump’s official Facebook page posted the link to the live video, offering up an alternative to the mainstream broadcast. The message: “If you’re tired of biased, mainstream media reporting (otherwise known as Crooked Hillary’s super PAC), tune into my Facebook Live broadcast. Starts at 8:30 EST/5:30 PST — you won’t want to miss it. Enjoy!”
The broadcast quickly ballooned to around 200,000 concurrent viewers but quickly fell off to around 120,000. As of the middle of the debate, the feed was holding steady at around 170,000, trailing only the ABC News debate feed on the platform.
The livestream featured punditry from retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn and former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and in place of commercials, the feed was interspersed with pro-Trump ads and a special message from Ivanka Trump.

Ivanka Trump finally broke her silence about predatory comments her father made on a leaked hot mic tape from 2005, calling those remarks "inappropriate and offensive" in a statement to Fast Company.
Trump issued a one-sentence statement after being interviewed by the magazine for a story published Monday about the stress of the media attention during the election.
"My father's comments were clearly inappropriate and offensive and I'm glad that he acknowledged this fact with an immediate apology to my family and the American people," she said.

After he leaves the White House, President Obama will make a major priority of his post-presidency political activity working with a campaign being spearheaded by former Attorney General Eric Holder that will focus on redistricting reform, a major elections issue that has allowed Republicans to trounce Democrats in state houses and in the U.S. House of Representatives.
According to a Politico report Monday, Holder will serve as chair of a new umbrella group called the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which will bring together national and state-level Democratic political groups, as well as unions and progressive organizations. The group will mobilize around elections in the years to come that will determine who gets to draw the districting maps after the 2020 census which will be in place for the following decade of elections. The White House has worked closely on launching the campaign, and the President strongly backed the choice of Holder as its chair, Politico said.
“American voters deserve fair maps that represent our diverse communities—and we need a coordinated strategy to make that happen,” Holder said, according to Politico. “This unprecedented new effort will ensure Democrats have a seat at the table to create fairer maps after 2020."
Obama's involvement will be most focused at the state-legislative level, White House political director David Simas told Politico.
The Tea Party wave of elections in 2010 gave Republicans outsized influence over redistricting after the last census, which tilted the electoral map significantly in their favor. . . .
Gerrymandering is also commonly blamed for the dysfunction in the national legislature, as Republican representatives are often more worried about a primary challenge to their right rather than a Democrat running against them for their seat. . . .

Trump's son-in-law held talks to set up Trump TV network
Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, informally approached LionTree Advisors Chief Executive Aryeh Bourkoff about setting up a Trump TV network after the U.S. presidential election, but the investment bank does not want to be involved, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Kushner contacted Bourkoff, one of the media industry's top dealmakers, in the past few months, but there have been no further conversations, the source said on Monday. The source asked not to be identified because the discussions were private.
There was no reason given for LionTree's reluctance to participate in the process.
The Financial Times first reported the LionTree talks earlier on Monday, citing sources.(on.ft.com/2dIbnrX)
Trump, the Republican U.S. presidential nominee, told the Washington Post last month he had "no interest in a media company" and that reports he was considering setting up one were "a false rumor."

Bernie Sanders might have lost the Democratic nomination, but he is still using his political appeal to hold drug corporations accountable for their greed. On Friday, the Vermont senator focused his anger on Ariad Pharmaectuals and, with a single Tweet, caused the company’s stock to fall by nearly 15 percent. In terms of dollars, the company lost nearly 400 million dollars.
The tweet in question was an article discussing Ariad Pharmectuals price gouging.

Ariad makes a drug called Iclusig which is used to treat leukemia. Since the beginning of this year, they’ve raised the drug’s price four times resulting in a cumulative 27 percent increase in the drug’s price. As a result of these increases, the drug now costs $16,560 a month or nearly $199,000 a year.

Judge Grants Partial Stop on North Dakota Pipeline Work
The saga over a $3.7 billion crude oil pipeline that has pitted Native American groups against big oil was back in court today.
At stake is whether the Dakota Access Pipeline will be allowed to traverse what many Native American groups say are sacred ancestral lands.
The case has garnered national attention and hundreds of people are still camped out in protest of the pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's reservation in North Dakota.
The tribe and the pipeline company are awaiting a ruling, which could come as early as this afternoon, from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which oversaw the appeal being heard today to seek a temporary restraining order against the pipeline's construction.
Today's hearing is part of a legal battle that has continued for months. In the process, it has united Native American groups and environmental activists from across the country, growing into one of the biggest Native American demonstrations in decades.
Even President Obama weighed in on the movement last week at the White House Tribal Nations Conference, telling a crowd featuring more than 500 Native American leaders, “I know many of you have come together, across tribes and across the country, to support the community at Standing Rock and together you’re making your voices heard.”
The fight to block the pipeline began in July, when the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe sued to block the pipeline, arguing they were never meaningfully consulted before construction began. The tribe added that the pipeline ran through what they deemed to be culturally sacred sites and presented a danger to the reservation's water supply.
The pipeline company and the Corps argued in court documents that they followed a standard review process.
The CEO of Energy Transfer, the Texas-based company building the pipeline, denied the tribe's allegations in an internal memo to staff, previously provided to ABC News by the company when asked for comment on the issue last month.
Energy Transfer CEO Kelcy Warren wrote that "concerns about the pipeline’s impact on the local water supply are unfounded," and that "multiple archaeological studies conducted with state historic preservation offices found no sacred items along the route."
Energy Transfer did not immediately respond to ABC News' request today for further comment.
A federal judge denied the tribe's request to temporarily halt construction of the pipeline last month, but the Department of Justice, Department of the Army, and Department of the Interior intervened in an unprecedented manner with a joint statement requesting "that the pipeline company voluntarily pause all construction activity within 20 miles east or west of Lake Oahe."
Tribal leaders viewed the joint statement from the three federal agencies as a temporary victory, but still appealed the judge's ruling in order to make the request for a "voluntary pause" an enforceable court order, bringing them back to court today.

Hillary has not given Native Americans many reasons to vote for her, but Trump has given us many reasons not to vote for him. Still, that will not be enough to bring Native people out in droves.
Just like any community, she needs to provide a reason to vote for her, not just against Trump. She has not provided that reason. Hillary Clinton can give Native Americans that opportunity — she can reach out a hand of allyship to us. She can show that she won’t follow in the footsteps of previous presidents who have broken hundreds of treaties and spilled the blood of so many of our brothers and sisters.
We are rising up. We are calling for change. The Dakota Access Pipeline is the biggest unity moment for Native Americans in 140 years.
Hillary’s not Bernie or Barack; she’s not someone Indian Country has gotten excited about. Yet. But she could be. With a firm stance on the Dakota Access Pipeline and treaty rights generally, she could win enthusiastic support.
Hillary Clinton has an opportunity to ally with Native Americans, to join us in a historic moment of unity, a stand for our very humanity. The question now is, will she?
