Did Kavanaugh have the 'experience' and temperament'

for a lifetime appointment? Was Trump even remotely 'transparent' or 'steady' to hold the most powerful leadership position in the world?

“The Director of OMB is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the federal budget and plays a significant role in any Administration’s fiscal and regulatory agenda. Congress has to be able to trust the OMB director to make countless decisions in an impartial manner, carrying out the letter of the law and congressional intent. Neera Tanden has neither the experience nor the temperament to lead this critical agency. Her past actions have demonstrated exactly the kind of animosity that President Biden has pledged to transcend.

“In addition, Ms. Tanden’s decision to delete more than a thousand tweets in the days before her nomination was announced raises concerns about her commitment to transparency. Should Congress need to review documents or actions taken by OMB, we must have confidence that the Director will be forthcoming.

“The OMB needs steady, experienced, responsive leadership. I will vote against confirming Ms. Tanden.”

— Sen. Susan Collins

What's really going on is white people holding an outspoken woman of color to different standards.

Tanden was 'mean' on Twitter to Bernie people, to Trump people and others - many of whom themselves are known for being 'mean' on Twitter but of course she's the one being taken to task for it.

There are political motivations to taking them down,

not just on the right but on the far-left who views TLP as 'bringing Republicans into the party and pushing us center'. IOW, the anti-TLP forces are fearful of TLP's effectiveness. Biden did better in the suburbs and with independents than Hillary did, with precisely the type of voter that TLP spent alot of time and effort targeting. Biden also did better with new and young voters who don't understand much about politics but do understand toughness and trolling skills.

Politics in this day and age are about winning social media wars and without that people view you as weak or absent from the conversation. TLP stepped up and were visible stars on TV and online - we all knew who they were and they were fearless in taking on the worst of the right wing. Schmidt and Wilson regularly got into it with Don Jr etc delivering serious body blows. They kept the morale of Dems high during the Trump years when everything seemed lost.

+1. This is politically dumb because voters want results.

Voters don't care about bipartanship per se, only results. Repubs know this and want to obstruct or trick conservative Dems into being 'bipartisan' - who Repubs will then run against as 'not producing results'.

Cuomo is a tough Dem and a good executive, de Blasio is a crybaby

and a terrible mayor who should stay out of the kitchen if he can't take the heat.

The entire nursing home 'scandal' is a conspiracy theory cooked up by the far-right on social media, and some on the left have jumped on it in attempt to weaken Cuomo in the 2022 gubernatorial primary.

However, these people don't understand NY politics. NY is liberal but not leftist, and is accustomed to tough politics as long as results are delivered. Cuomo has the state in very good shape considering the conditions; he had to deal not only with a terrible pandemic but with the Trump admin that was out to sabotage him and the attention and praise he received.

As long as the vaccine rollout goes well and herd immunity is achieved by next spring, Cuomo will be easily reelected.

Manchin vs AOC/Kamala/Tanden,

anyone see what his targets all have in common?

His public spats with outspoken women of color are IMO a clear dogwhistle to the voters in his pro-Trump state.

Manchin is a guy who has voted to confirm many terrible white men to powerful positions who were much more 'divisive' than Tanden could ever be. We had a Twitter troll as president who attempted to overthrow democracy. But of course the scary brown woman is the problem.

This is the typical double standard that non-whites and women (especially of color) have to face in America.

It's the typical GOP whataboutism and gaslighting

where they attempt to flip the script and make themselves - and by proxy conservative White America - the true victims of BLM, of Antifa, of 'identity politics' etc.

So Dem politicians' support for young people protesting for justice becomes equated with the Insurrectionist-in-Chief inciting far right white nationalists to commit sedition ... ie the 'good people on both sides' distortion.

It's not going to work and will continue to drive young people, women and others to the Dem side.

Conservatives view whites as the true victims

is what it boils down to. They truly do think that 'cracker' and the n word are equivalent insults, that Omar and Greene are equally bad, that BLM and the insurrectionists are similar, etc.

The truth is that due to systemic racism the n word is not merely an insult but a tool of oppression, that Omar used unfortunate terms (which she apologized for) in critiquing Israel-Palestine policy while Greene is just a racist and violent conspiracist with no coherent policy positions, that BLM protests against white supremacy and actual injustice while the insurrectionists stormed the Capitol to pull off a coup and install Trump for life so that they could cement white supremacy.

+1. WV is 'red' mainly due to cultural issues,

but is a fiscally populist state where even the GOP governor wants the bigger stimulus.

Sinema and Manchin think they're being bipartisan but voters don't care about bipartisanship (even though they say they do). Voters care about results for their family and their bank account - and if their leaders fail to deliver this they will simply view the party in power as ineffective and vote them out. McConnell understands this which is why he hopes to blockade or water down everything Biden wants (and trick conservative Dems into going along with him in the name of 'bipartisanship) just like he did with Obama.

Manchin is the Lieberman of this era.

Manchin endorsed Susan Collins, which IMO indicates by such an action he's not that concerned which party controls the Senate, just about the power of his 'problem solvers' caucus and the power they wield in the middle of negotiations.

Lowering the income to qualify for the stimulus check is something the GOP would love as it would only serve to divide our base, which is heavily urban and suburban, where salaries can be higher but cost of living is much higher as well. Biden only won the swing states because he overperformed in urban/suburban areas - not because he did much better than Hillary in the rurals - which have been trending redder and redder towards the Trump direction.

February 3, 2021

WV was historically a conservative Dem state

that may disagree with modern Dems on social issues but has always been to the left economically.

Manchin is out of touch. Nobody cares about token Senate bipartanship. His constituents need help and even his Repub governor wants a big relief package.
