This Wasn't a Clean Election

My wife and I spent the last two days of the campaign canvassing for Hillary up in New Hampshire, specifically in Manchester and its burbs. Based on everything we saw and heard on the ground, Hillary's victory shouldn't have been anywhere NEAR close!

I can only imagine the skulduggery and voter suppression that doubtless occurred in other swing states.

Clinton 320, Trump 218

http://www.270towin.com/maps/x7XDX is my electoral map. (If somebody has screen-grab knowledge, I'd be thrilled to have the actual map visible here.)

Now one last time into the New Hampshire breach. Death to the Donald! Kick out Kelly! And Stymie the Spawn of Sununu!

Smog Chokes Delhi, Leaving Residents ‘Cowering by Our Air Purifiers’

Source: New York Times

By ELLEN BARRYNOV. 7, 2016

NEW DELHI — For days, many in Delhi have been living as if under siege, trying to keep the dirty air away from their children and older parents.

But it is not easy: Open a window or a door, and the haze enters the room within seconds. Outside, the sky is white, the sun a white circle so pale that you can barely make it out. The smog is acrid, eye-stinging and throat-burning, and so thick that it is being blamed for a 70-vehicle pileup north of the city.

If in past years, Delhi’s roughly 20 million residents shrugged off wintertime pollution as fog, over the last week they viewed it as a crisis. Schools have been ordered closed for three days — an unprecedented measure, but not a reassuring one, since experts say the concentration of pollutants inside Indian homes is typically not much lower than outside.

Levels of the most dangerous particles, called PM 2.5, reached 700 micrograms per cubic meter on Monday, and over the weekend they soared in some places to 1,000, or more than 16 times the limit India’s government considers safe. The damage from sustained exposure to such high concentrations of PM 2.5 is equivalent to smoking more than two packs of cigarettes a day, experts say.

Poll: On Eve of Election Day, Clinton Maintains Her Edge Over Trump

Source: NBC News

Nov 7 2016, 6:15 am ET

As Election Day looms, Hillary Clinton's 6-point lead over Donald Trump remains unchanged from last week according to the final NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll.

Over the course of months of NBC News|SurveyMonkey polling, the numbers have remained remarkably stable. Clinton has not only maintained a lead over the Republican nominee since the end of July, but the margin of her lead has been between 4 to 6 percentage points since the second week of September.

The national NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll has shown less variability than most other polls that have tracked the race this election season.

According to results from the final week of polling from the NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll between October 31 and November 6 among likely voters, Clinton continues to lead Trump in a four-way contest with 47 percent to Trump's 41 percent.

Trump's Absolutely, Positively NOT Anti-Semitic New Ad

From Slate:

Donald Trump has released what seems like the closing-argument ad of his campaign, and several people are pointing out that the whole thing has rather troubling anti-Semitic overtones by at the very least implying that it’s prominent Jews who control the “levers of power.”

The two-minute–long ad uses audio from a speech Trump gave last month in West Palm Beach that was harshly criticized by the Anti-Defamation League for “rhetoric and tropes that historically have been used against Jews and still spur antisemitism.” The speech is interspersed with photos of powerful people. Besides Hillary and Bill Clinton and President Obama, the other three readily identifiable people in the video are all Jews: financier George Soros, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

“The establishment has trillions of dollars at stake in this election,” the Republican presidential candidate warns in the video. “For those who control the levers of power in Washington and for the global special interests, they partner with these people that don’t have your good in mind.”

The Huffington Post’s Daniel Marans explains what is troubling about the images that are mixed in with Trump’s words: "Splicing the remarks together with images of Soros and Yellen, however, heightens this antisemitic effect. The combined use of the troubling rhetoric and images of those individuals resembles more explicitly antisemitic narratives throughout modern history. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a late 19th-century publication likely commissioned by the Tsarist Russian government, helped spread the conspiracy theory that a Jewish-run cabal of global financial elites dictated world affairs. Some version of this theory continues to inspire antisemites."

A new University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll released with one full day remaining in campaign 2016 shows Democrat Hillary Clinton leading Republican Donald Trump in the Granite State and Democrats leading in the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial contests. Democrats also lead in the two U.S. House races.

The Granite State Poll, conducted from Nov. 3-6 among 707 likely voters, shows:

-- In the presidential race for New Hampshire’s four electoral votes, Clinton leads Trump, 49 percent to 38 percent, with 6 percent for Libertarian Gary Johnson, 1 percent for Green Party candidate Jill Stein and 4 percent undecided.

-- In the U.S. Senate race, Gov. Maggie Hassan leads incumbent Sen. Kelly Ayotte, 49 percent to 45 percent, with 1 percent preferring someone else and 4 percent undecided.

-- In the race for governor between two executive councilors, Colin Van Ostern leads Chris Sununu, 48 percent to 37 percent, with 2 percent preferring someone else and 19 percent undecided.

Here in the exurbs of Manchester, what I'm seeing and hearing confirms that Hillary is well ahead, though I think 11 points is a bit high. I'm also confident the Son of John Sununu will have his ass handed to him on Tuesday. But the Senate race? Despite this poll, I think Hassan-Ayotte is going to be thinner than a razor.

PS: a shout-out to the Bergen family for providing my wife and I with room and board while we're agitating for HRC up here!

Hillary Clinton Appears to Gain Late Momentum on Surge of Latino Voters

Source: New York Times

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — Hispanic voters in key states surged to cast their ballots in the final days of early voting this weekend, a demonstration of political power that lifted Hillary Clinton’s presidential hopes and threatened to block Donald J. Trump’s path to the White House.

In Florida, energized by the groundswell of Latino support and hoping to drive even more voters to the polls, Mrs. Clinton visited a handful of immigrant communities on Saturday and rallied Democrats in a town filled with Hispanic and Caribbean migrants.

“We are seeing tremendous momentum, large numbers of people turning out, breaking records,” Mrs. Clinton said here in Pembroke Pines before cutting her remarks short when torrential afternoon rain began falling on the racially mixed crowd. Before taking the stage, she greeted voters at a heavily Cuban early voting center in West Miami and then stopped in at her storefront field office in Miami’s Little Haiti.

Indeed, even as she fought a rear-guard action to defend a series of more heavily white states that appear to have grown more competitive, making trips to Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, Mrs. Clinton appeared to find a growing advantage in the more diverse presidential battlegrounds.

Military Members Donating Way More Cash to Clinton Than to Trump

Source: Law Newz-Mediaite

by OpenSecrets Staff | 1:32 pm, November 5th, 2016

Active and retired members of the military have been showing far more support for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton than for her Republican rival, at least as measured by the checks they’ve written to her campaign.

Individuals who listed their employers as the U.S. Department of Defense or major branches of the military, or who say they’re retired from one of those, have contributed a total of $972,709 to both nominees so far this year. Clinton has claimed $771,471 of the contributions, or nearly 80 percent.

All major branches of the armed forces – including the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard – have favored Clinton to a much greater degree than GOP nominee Donald Trump. Members of the Army have contributed more than other branches of the service this cycle, giving a total of $191,712 to the two presidential hopefuls, 72 percent of which went to Clinton.
