Biden really is held to a way, way higher standard than Trump
I was reading a tweet by Nate Silver today. He is talking about how one poll came out where Biden still has a massive lead over Trump but it slightly decreases his overall average, therefore, Biden’s odds in the 538 projection have gone down. There are discussions in that thread about what Biden has to do in this state or with this group to shore up support. Also talk about how he’s not leading quite as much as he was a few months ago and what does that mean for his campaign and blah blah blah blah blah. And this kind of shit really does hit home how Biden is held to a way, way higher standard than Trump. Trump can be down by double digits for 12 straight months, have an approval rating in the gutter, write off entire groups of people as “unamerican” and entire states as shit holes, and yet Biden dropping from being up by 8.9 to 8.6 we get “is Biden slipping, why can’t he hold his lead, why can’t he win over this group?”.
It is absolute horse shit. We can think of 1000 examples, like Trump’s frail physical health and no one cares but if Biden sneezes we get “does he have Dementia!?”. Trump can run around, pissing off 60% of the country, letting hundreds of thousands of people die, rambling through speeches and talking about being president for life but “he still has time to turn things around and his appeals to these voters might help close the gap”. This double standard is insane to watch. Trump can fuck everything up constantly and people still say “don’t count him out yet”. Biden loses 1/10th of one point in his lead in the averages and we get 200 articles about how Biden is having trouble in his campaign.

One possible Trump move that I haven't really seen mentioned yet
We can see plenty of desperate moves by Trump as it appears he is heading for a landslide loss this year. Yes, I know, just vote, it isn't over until it's over, don't get cocky, etc. However, objectively, when we take fear and emotion out if it, Trump is very unlikely to win a 2nd term. All of his fuckery with the post office, Kanye West, secret police, delaying the election, none of those are likely to help him. In fact they seem to be making his position worse, not better. He is a raging narcissist and extremely dumb. Everything he is trying is destined to fail.
I have heard plenty of theories about all of the horrible things he will do to stay in power but one I haven't seen mentioned, but that I think could be possible, is that Trump ends up calling for a boycott of the election. You can see him struggling with the idea that he is very likely to lose and is coming up with all sorts of reasons why that is which have nothing to do with how shitty of a president that he is. His big one is that the election is rigged against him and is going to be stolen via fraud by the Democrats.These are just excuses so that his fragile ego doesn't have to face reality.
However, I do wonder if when we get closer to the election and the most likely scenario plays out, that Trump is down by close to double digits or even a bit worse, as he is right now, if he will tell his supporters not to vote at all. Is there not a real possibility that he will claim the entire election is invalid and his supporters should stay home? That way when he loses he can say that the election was stolen and that he chose not to win as a form of protest? Especially if reports that the Republicans in the house and Senate are ready to abandon him to his fate if by the beginning of September he is still down significantly in the polls? That could also be revenge against his own party for not doing enough to support him.
Is that scenario not one of the possibilities to how this election plays out?
Republicans online are freaking the fuck out right now
Go onto any Republican discussion forum right now and the panic is cranked up to 11. You can see them quickly realizing that the whole "Biden has dementia and is barely coherent" attacks they have tried for the past 6 months has backfired horrendously. They are throwing out all sorts of conspiracy theories that this is all pre recorded and edited, while others are trying every other failed attack as a distraction. I have seen him called a rapist, pedophile, communist, or that the news media is praising a speech that was objectively terrible to hurt Trump.
The right wingers seem to be realizing all at once just how badly they have botched this election and their absolute terror is feeding my soul. Holy shit was a marvelous day!
Schools in my area opened three days ago and we already have two coronavirus outbreaks
The area of the country I live in has so far been mostly spared from coronavirus cases. That is until school started back up on Monday. We already have one high school that has been shut down due to 14 staff members testing positive and now one of the local universities has cases that are spiraling out of control after a large move in weekend party on Saturday.
On my way back to work from lunch today, I drove past the local middle school, which was getting out for the day. There were massive groups of students and adults all milling about, almost none of them wearing masks.

Republicans online seem scared
It's not always easy to do but I like to check out Republican discussion boards a few times a week to see what the other side is thinking and feeling. It is also good to see what Democratic "scandals" and attacks the right wing media is cooking up at any given time so I am not caught off guard by sudden crazy claims cropping up. Anyway, last night the impression I got while the DNC was going on was that they are terrified about how well it is going for the Dems. Of course they won't admit that Biden and the Democrats are doing well or that anything about the convention is going to be effective. Instead you need to look at how angry, frustrated, and rambling their posts are. Obviously the more they know they are losing the more hostile and violent they start to sound. Last night the right wing chatter heavily implied panic and that whatever disaster they were predicting for the Dem convention isn't coming to pass.
Most of their rage is coming out as racist attacks against Harris, along with implying that she is "a slut" who slept her way to the top, including speculation that she is sleeping with Biden. But there is talk about how Michelle Obama is fat and lost her looks. There are also claims that the Democrats seem to be in disarray, that no one in the country likes Biden, that less than 1000 people watched the convention last night, that the music at the convention is going to turn off voters (?). And lots and lots of talk about 2016 and Hillary Clinton.
I could give exact quotes but none of that matters and you don't really want to read that garbage anyway. What is important is that the attacks on the Democrats and the convention are all over the place. They are attacking the way people look, the quality of the sound and video, conspriacy theories and middle school level attacks on random people they don't even know. As someone who reguarly monitors the Republican online cesspool I can tell you they are freaked the fuck out right now. Whatever the Democrats are doing is whipping them up into a total panic. We should all feel good that the Democrats seem to be on top of their game right now.
Cigarettes really are awful things
Due to this whole plague that Trump let wash over the country, I, like many of you, am stuck hanging around the house a lot. I've been watching a lot of older movies, from around the 1950's and 1960's to kill time. One thing that I am shocked by is how aged many actors and actresses look. There will be a character in a movie that I assume is like 55 years old but when I look up the age of the actor, they are always like 32 years old. It is so depressing and shocking to see. Of course when you look up their bio on wikipedia, most were very heavy smokers and died at like 52 years old.
