Hugh_Lebowski's JournalI've got another young lady artist for ya to check out Master Sergeant (and other Americana Fans)
https://www.samanthacrain.com/She put out her first new album since 2017 recently after recovering from a horrible car crash, and it's freaking AWESOME ...
mary gauthier - mercy now (live-2010) if you've never heard this song, you've really missed out
cause it's a freaking stunner.
going out to JTE tonight
Justin Townes Earle - Death Cause Revealed ... shitty deal ...
Apparently people are lacing cocaine with fentanyl now? And that is the theory of what killed him? Strikes me as unlikely, more like he did both coke and fentanyl (and alcohol was found in his system).
Lacing cocaine with fentanyl makes no sense from the standpoint of the dealer making the stuff. It's like 'hey, why don't I cut my speed ... with these ground up valiums?'. It's nonsensical.
Now, it's very possible he didn't know the opioids he was imbibing was actual fentanyl cause there's all kinds of pills and powders purporting to be OTHER opioids like heroin or oxy that are in fact mostly or all fentanyl (in terms of an active ingredient).
Anyways ... shitty deal, but not surprising unfortunately

frazey ford - azad (studio-2020) vancouver soul-americana artist - try it, you'll like it!
The freaking melody of the chorus is totally lifted from a classic song and it's driving me nuts ... WHAT SONG IS IT?!?
samantha crain - garden dove (studio-2020) another excellent track from her latest record
The groove here is dead-on 'Circle' by Big Head Todd (another Native artist iirc) or, if you prefer, 'Low' by Cracker. Same groove and chord progression in all 3
samantha crain - pastime (studio-2020) chocktaw lady's first record after a devastating accident
it's making many of the 'album of the year' lists for 2020 ... and it's really cool stuff.
ani difranco - do or die (studio-2020) in which she extolls the virtues of VOTING!!!
Cool tune!
Just saw a Walmart ad that's just incredibly irresponsible ...
All short clips of all these unmasked people getting together in close proximity, and the jist of the ad is that basically Christmas is all about getting together with your family.
It's freaking terrible.
I know it's kinda old now (2017-2018) but just watched Counterpart on Amazon Prime
Starring the always-great JK Simmons. There is only 2 Seasons but it wraps up nicely so you don't feel like DAMN IT when it ends because the writers thought they'd have more time before it was cancelled.
Damn good sci-fi story, much of which took place in the past (relative to the main storyline), and these 'past' things are slowly revealed over the entire 2 seasons ... little mysteries are made understandable, etc ... it really kinda feels like one big long movie.
The acting is all top-notch, takes place in Germany but not that much of it is outside so unfortunately you don't get a lot of the local flavor in terms of scenery but there's some.
If you like mildly sci-fi stuff (by that I mean it's more Bladerunner than Star Wars) and want something new to watch ... I recommend!
The NFL equivalent of a car wreck might be coming up this afternoon for those who like rubbernecking
ALL the Denver Broncos quarterbacks are in COVID quarantine right now and ineligible to play.
They are looking at starting either a running back, or bringing up a wide receiver from the practice squad who played some QB in college at Wake Forest.
The 4-6 Broncos are facing one of the best defenses in the league in the New Orleans Saints, who are 8-2 and riding a 6 game win streak into the contest.
This ... is going to be freaking hilarious if the league doesn't decide to postpone it at the last minute.
I think they might, but we'll see.
