If you are looking for a worthy place to send funds in the Caribbean...

Let me tell a little tale and make a suggestion.

My smart as a whip granddaughter had several scholarship offers to go for her marine biology major. Her ultimate decision was the University of the Virgin Islands and was on St. Thomas when it was hit by the Cat5 hurricane. The campus was badly damaged and classes were resceduled to a campus on another island making her one of just 63 students who sheltered on campus in St. Croix when the second Cat 5 hit. That campus was also heavily damaged.

Now I'm a 64 year old white guy and my granddaughter is also white and I was thrilled when I learned that UVI is both an HBC (historically black collegw) and that their marine biology program is considered world class. The University is hoping to repair enough to hold limited classes in October, but as you can easily guess they are pretty far down the line when it comes to disaster aid. I think the school is a worthy institution and should you be so inclined I have added a link to the school and farther down the page is their appeal for funds with a goal of 750K (or about 1.5 McMansions). Thanks for reading.
