Mayfield candle factory tornado survivors sue company, allege 'flagrant indifference'

--------
In the lawsuit, plaintiffs allege that Mayfield Consumer Products required the 110 employees at the factory Friday night to work even though the company "knew or should have known about the expected tornado and the danger of serious bodily injuries and death to its employees if its employees were required to remain at its place of business during the pendency of the expected tornado." The lawsuit also invoked a claim the company has contested: That it refused to let workers leave the night of the tornado and threatened to fire them if they did so.
The company "showed flagrant indifference to the rights" of employees "with a subjective awareness that such conduct will result in human death and/or bodily injuries," the lawsuit reads.
-----------------
As part of the lawsuit, the plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and punitive damages, prejudgment and post-judgment interests, attorneys fees, and "a trial by jury on all issues so triable."
There may not be much left in the way of assets to sue for but at least they may find some closure for families of the dead and some psychological relief for their community.

Consider these possibilities.......
Did you have a bad power glitch at your house?
If you have a "smart" TV, it may have been hacked.
See: https://techpenny.com/smart-tvs-hacking-stay-safe/
Quote: "Smart TVs are one of the most hacked devices that can connect to the Internet."
Should you detect unusual activity from your smart TV, the first thing you should do is log out of all your accounts.
After logging out, access those accounts from another device and change passwords.
You should enable two-factor authentication when possible.
Once you have secured your account, go over the recent activities or logins of your account and look for the suspicious activity so you can block it.

They can also take control of your unsecured smart TV. Low-risk threats include changing channels, adjusting the TVs volume and showing kids inappropriate videos. Worst-case scenarios include turning your bedroom TVs camera and mic into a stalking spying device. Yikes!

Too early in that variant's life span to answer your question accurately ...
which in reality, should be addressed by an immunologist of international standing, not by casual users of a political forum.
You can get most of the best opinions currently available here, as they have asked that question of people in SA:
South Africa says vaccines and natural immunity are limiting latest Covid wave

Many, many data sets, knowns and unknowns are involved in accurately answering such a question as well as demographic factors such as population aging and mobility.
It's irrelevant to us in the USA that SA's case spread rate appears to be slower.

Best obituary ever...
ObituaryRenay Mandel Corren
The Fayetteville Observer
Link: https://www.fayobserver.com/obituaries/m0028451
Written by her son. Snips...
Of itself hardly news, or good news if you're the type that subscribes to the notion that anybody not named you dying in El Paso, Texas is good news. In which case have I got news for you: the bawdy, fertile, redheaded matriarch of a sprawling Jewish-Mexican-Redneck American family has kicked it. This was not good news to Renay Mandel Corren's many surviving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom she even knew and, in her own way, loved. There will be much mourning in the many glamorous locales she went bankrupt in: McKeesport, PA, Renay's birthplace and where she first fell in love with ham, and atheism; Fayetteville and Kill Devil Hills, NC, where Renay's dreams, credit rating and marriage are all buried; and of course Miami, FL, where Renay's parents, uncles, aunts, and eternal hopes of all Miami Dolphins fans everywhere, are all buried pretty deep. Renay was preceded in death by Don Shula.
LOL, this one even deserved an article in The Guardian UK: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/dec/16/obituary-viral-renay-mandel-corren-texas
Quotes:
Covid couldnt kill Renay. Neither could pneumonia twice, infections, blood clots, bad feet, breast cancer twice, two mastectomies, two recessions, multiple bankruptcies, marriage to a philandering Sergeant Major, divorce in the 70s, six kids, one cesarean, a few abortions from the Quietly Famous Abortionist of Spring Lake, NC or an affair with Larry King in the 60s.
It also lists her many talents: She played cards like a shark, bowled and played cribbage like a pro, and laughed with the boys until the wee hours, long after the last pin dropped.
Renay didnt cook, she didnt clean, and she was lousy with money, too. Heres what Renay was great at: dyeing her red roots, weekly manicures, dirty jokes, pier fishing, rolling joints and buying dirty magazines.
She represents one of those very rare, beautiful humans we cross paths with in our lifetimes. I've been lucky to have a few in my 74 years and this obit makes me think of some of them!
To Renay..... I regret never knowing you!
Hangover from Thanksgiving and Black Friday?
Around the time when schools reopened, I sensed a lot of complacency in the general public and reports of Omicron being very mild didn't help a damn bit.
IMO, people are prone to do some pretty stupid shit around holidays and vacations. Thanksgiving and Black Friday are mostly indoor events, so perhaps there is some correlation.

LIVE - Extreme Tornado / Derecho Coverage - Storm Chasers In The Field
Updated/edited at 6:30 pm to include his live storm coverage:Original prediction video from this afternoon:
Mostly in Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota and possibly parts of Kansas during the evening hours tonight. The beginnings of this system is moving into Colorado now and I just noticed a tornado watch flash up on NWS radar then disappear near Denver.
From NWS:
A rapidly strengthening storm system will shift from the four-corners region to the upper Great Lakes through today with widespread high winds, exceeding 70 mph in some locations, and severe weather including a few tornadoes for parts of the Mississippi River Valley. Critical to extremely critical fire weather conditions are expected from northeast New Mexico into southern Nebraska.
If you live in this zone, please check your local forecast on NWS by entering your city and state or ZIP code at this link and be prepared:
https://www.weather.gov/
This YouTube site is my favorite internet severe weather expert and he was spot-on during the December 10 storms. He says we may witness some rare "snownadoes" tonight in northern areas already blanketed with snow.

The link to that page was emailed to me by the Kentucky Democratic Party, including this message:
This is a difficult day for Kentucky with loved ones lost, communities destroyed and so much hurt and uncertainty for thousands more, but we Kentuckians are tough, resilient and generous people.
With thousands of Kentuckians hurting in the wake of the deadliest tornadoes in Kentucky history, Governor Beshear created a relief fund to assist our people.
Please join our leaders in contributing to the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund. This is a dedicated fund to help our neighbors in Western Kentucky, where there is a growing need.
Our people are hurting and one thing we can always count on as Kentuckians is people who care. That is who we are.
We have lost at least 70 Kentuckians and Governor Beshear expects the number to increase as our heroic first responders continue to search house to house. Hundreds of Kentuckians, if not thousands, lost their homes and others will spend the night without power in frigid temperatures.
Along with contributing to the fund, we join the Governor and local officials in urging you to donate blood.
Our people are in desperate need of help. Please be generous and please help us be a source of hope for our fellow Kentuckians.
Many thanks to you all.
Colmon Elridge
Chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party
Note that the fund is non-partisan and based at the kentucky.gov web site.
