The Obama Foundation Fellowship program seeks to support outstanding civic innovators from around the world in order to amplify the impact of their work and to inspire a wave of civic innovation.

The Obama Foundation Fellows will be a diverse set of community-minded rising stars – organizers, inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, journalists, and more – who are altering the civic engagement landscape. The inaugural class of 20 Fellows will be integral to shaping the program and the community of Fellows for future years. For this first class, we’re seeking participants who are especially excited about helping us design, test, and refine the Fellowship.

Our two-year, non-residential Fellowship will offer hands-on training, resources, and leadership development. Fellows will also participate in four multi-day gatherings where they will collaborate with each other, connect with potential partners, and collectively push their work forward. Throughout the program, each Fellow will pursue a personalized plan to leverage Fellowship resources to take their work to the next level.

Obama Foundation: My Brother's Keeper Alliance

President Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper in February 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color. To scale and sustain its mission, the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance was launched as a private sector entity in 2015. The My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, along with cross-sector partners, will work to accelerate impact in targeted communities, mobilize citizens and resources, and promote what works — all with the goal of encouraging mentorship, reducing youth violence, and improving life outcomes for boys and young men of color.

To ensure all young people can reach their full potential and as part of the Foundation’s mission to inspire and empower the next generation leaders, this work will continue as a project of the Obama Foundation when, later this year, the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance becomes an Obama Foundation initiative.

At this point there is zero reason anyone in Puerto Rico is without necessary nutrition.

It's simply inexcusable.

I have already received over one thousand dollars from the federal government for Irma relief. It's been in my account for days. During the immediate aftermath, neighbors were helping neighbors, school cafeterias were being used to distribute food, and thousands of workers came from out of state to help us out. The federal government has flooded so much money into the pockets of our people that our economy won't even see a downturn. In fact, when the numbers come in, we will show an economic uptick because of all of the funds.

We were not hit anywhere near as hard as PR. Not even close. What was needed was done, or being done. Our community flushed with money so our economy doesn't take a major hit. A lot of these funds will go to our extremely large service industry employees who were forced by their employers to take one to two weeks off. More often than not without pay.

Then there is PR. Money is a different story there though it has to be a part of it. They need more in-depth and logistical support. Hubs for food and water all over the place. In the rural areas where travel is even more difficult we should have been doing air drops on day two. Barges should already be lined up removing the enormous amount of debris on the island. Clear the roads and get the debris out. Military and private engineers should already have finished their assessment of the road structures on the island. The main airport should have been cleared quickly and military assets used in the communications aspect. Anyone with a place to stay off of the island should have already been removed. Get them out of there and the scope of the humanitarian crisis shrinks.

The list goes on and on. It requires a robust federal response. We are behind the ball and people will die because of it. People will suffer greatly because of it.

Fuck Trump. He is a terrorist and killer of American citizens. I truly mean both of those things. Even under conservative principles, the federal governments main job is to protect its citizens. He terrorizes POC, LBGQT, women, and now american citizens who have gone through the worst of a natural disaster. He calls white supremacists good people while labeling Mexicans criminals. There is absolutely no excuse for his actions. None. He is not only a failure as a President, he is a failure as a human being.

Justice Department, FBI resist lawmaker demands for 'Trump dossier' files: officials

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department and the FBI are resisting demands from a Republican lawmaker to hand over documents about a former British spy’s dossier on purported Russian support for Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign, because the FBI has its own open criminal investigation, officials said.

The U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee issued subpoenas in August seeking “any and all documents” about both agencies’ dealings with former MI6 officer Christopher Steele, according to a letter seen by Reuters from committee chairman Devin Nunes, a Trump supporter.

Steele compiled the so-called Trump dossier, which Trump was told by FBI director James Comey contained salacious material about the businessman-turned president. Trump and his associates have said the dossier’s contents were false.

Law enforcement and congressional officials said that the Justice Department and the FBI were reluctant to comply with the demand for documents as the FBI had its own probe, under the supervision of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, into U.S. allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign to tilt the November election in Trump’s favor.

Navy Using Legally Creative Contract Structure to Keep Ship Availabilities On Track Despite Contin

The Navy has gotten creative in dealing with budget uncertainties and continuing resolutions, developing a new ship maintenance contract structure to keep 11 ship availabilities on track at the beginning of Fiscal Year 2018 that would otherwise face major delays due to the impending CR, the head of surface ship maintenance told USNI News.

Rear Adm. Jim Downey, commander of Navy Regional Maintenance Centers and deputy commander for surface warfare at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) told USNI News today that up to a third of the ship maintenance workload can be put at risk when the fiscal year starts with a CR. This year, the Pentagon has already said 11 ship availabilities are at risk: USS Kidd (DDG-100), USS Pinckney (DDG-91), USS Coronado (LCS-4), USS Port Royal (CG-73), USS Princeton (CG-59), USS San Diego (LPD-22), USS Carter Hall (LSD-50), USS Oscar Austin (DDG-79), USS Vella Gulf (CG-72), USS James E. Williams (DDG-95) and USS Mahan (DDG-72).

Missouri Democrats Unveil Health Care Proposals

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Democrats want to expand who's eligible for Medicaid and allow people to buy into Medicaid at actual cost.

The ideas are part of a health care plan announced Tuesday by the state Democratic Party.

The Democratic plan includes requiring pharmaceutical companies to disclose price hikes and banning drug companies from giving gifts to doctors.

Democrats also want to allow private attorneys to file civil lawsuits for Medicaid fraud, enact a more traditional prescription drug monitoring program than what's taking effect in Missouri, and require diversity training in medical education. Other ideas include time off for veterans to seek health care and accepting federal money for contraceptive services, which would make Planned Parenthood eligible for funding.

You're probably gonna start a fight.

But that won't keep the Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee from telling us how they really feel about the death of the Graham-Cassidy bill, the Senate's last-ditch attempt to overhaul Obamacare.

The tweet featuring a gif of 'N Sync's 2000 music video "Bye Bye Bye" was sent after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell yanked the bill because it didn't have the votes to pass.
