Is revolution ever justified in the West?

History is of course littered with violent uprisings and rebellions. Often in the early years of our history nations were created and fell on very regular basis due to violent revolution. However, we are now living in a different time and place. We in the west have a ballot box and we can have our own revolution every few years by voting out whatever idiots are currently in charge. So, even in times of great instability when democracy seems under threat by the populist right, we can hang on by our finger nails and wait for the next election to come around. Right?

We read on a rather regular basis far right loons threatening to bring about bloody and violent change if we interfere with their perceived status quo. Thankfully, historically, their rallying cries have gone unnoticed by most sane individuals – but does anyone else get the feeling, in this febrile atmosphere that this might be changing?

In a democracy in the 21st century; can revolution be justified when/if we fear democracy itself may be under threat?

Nope. Not even a little bit

Clear And Orange Danger

The mental leaps I need to take on a daily basis to try and fathom out wtf Trump and Brexiteers are doing to endanger our existence is exhausting.... We are in the gravest danger we have been in since WW2 and that is some scary shit after such a long period of relative stability in the West.

Republicans Abandon Immigration For Abortion (For Now)

After getting their asses kicked in an election, most political parties take stock and modify their message to appeal to a broader range of the electorate. And that's sort of what the GOP is doing right now. Instead of whipping up white nationalist hysteria over a nonexistent immigration "crisis," they're whipping up hysteria over a nonexistent infanticide "crisis."

But how long will it last? Two years is a long time to spew lies about abortion and the news cycle moves on very quickly. After the right's 24 hour ragegasm, Governor Northam and the fake outrage the right whipped up faded from the headlines outside of the Fox News bubble, relegated to the opinion section. And while the hate machine of the right is happy to take on the misogyny of forcing women to give birth against their will, that pales in comparison to the thrill of raging against brown skin.

They are so flipping predictable...

Let's stop eating our own

I saw this comment in the comment section of Joemygod and it struck a cord - it is not too excuse the Governors behaviour in the 80's which were really offensive and wankerish - but what does his record say now on the things that matter - is he an ally or not? Surely, that should be the question we need to ask?

EDIT - ADDED LINK ABOUT THIS SUBJECT

On the same site I saw the above comment a new link has been posted :

How People's Vote campaigners believe a referendum on Brexit could still be won

However, campaigners for a People's Votes still believe that the "crunch point" for forcing a new referendum still lies ahead, with the "remorseless logic" of the Brexit process still pointing towards another public vote.

MPs and activists who support the People's Vote campaign for a new referendum were deflated this week after MPs rejected amendments designed to delay Brexit and allow discussions of alternatives to Theresa May's deal.

Some MPs were also disappointed that the campaign didn't push for an amendment to be tabled in its name.

I hate to say it but I think they are being overly optimistic on this

The rise of the right-wing globalists

In 1937, the head of IBM Thomas Watson received the Order of the German Eagle from Adolf Hitler. The occasion was the annual congress of the International Chamber of Commerce, hosted in Berlin. Watson had done good business with the Nazis. Like other global businesspeople during the years between the seizure of power and the invasion of Poland, Watson felt that Hitler was a nationalist – but one that could be worked with.

A dark parallel with these events emerged on social media last week, when a photo of Watson in Berlin was paired with a picture taken at the 2019 World Economic Forum in Davos, showing recently elected Brazilian strongman Jair Bolsonaro seated between Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Another shot showed Bolsonaro posing with Tony Blair.
