The Monster Raving Loony Party beat UKIP in the Brecon by-election...hahahaha

ink campaigned by appealing to those who no longer feel represented by the current political class. Speaking to the BBC she said:

Like a large proportion of the electorate, I'm angry, angry at the failings, the loopholes and the all-too-often self-serving system of governance we currently have.

I'm not a real politician. I'm not even a real Lady, I am however a real Loony - and I'm using comedy, satire and fancy dress in an attempt to get us all heard.

I'm standing - sitting, slouching, occasionally leaning - in this by-election campaign to give voice to those who have the right to vote yet who feel there is no point in voting.

Not only did her campaign work but according to the Beeb, the Loony Party also made a +1 gain in the seat and beat UKIP's candidate, Liz Phillips, by more than 100 votes.

The Landmark U.S.-Russia Arms Control Treaty Is Dead

Source: Time

A landmark arms control treaty that President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev signed three decades ago is dead, prompting fears of a new global arms race.

The United States and Russia both walked away from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces treaty on Friday. If they choose not to extend or replace the larger New START treaty when it expires in early 2021, there will be no legally binding limits on the world’s two largest nuclear arsenals for the first time in nearly a half century.

The U.S. blames Russia for the demise of the treaty, saying that for years Moscow has been developing and fielding weapons that violate the treaty and threaten the U.S. and its allies, particularly in Europe.

But without the constraints of the treaty, the Trump administration says it can now counter Russia — and China. The U.S. has complained for years of an unfair playing field — that Russia was developing weapons that violated the treaty and China, which wasn’t a signatory, was developing similar weapons that would have violated it, too.

Oh goody, a new arms race, a new cold war? Putin and Trump in charge of the codes.. nothing could go wrong here then!

I DO DECLARE: #LeningradLindsey Hits #1 Nationwide

The left is getting better at quickly weaponizing hashtags.

The hashtag #LeningradLindsey trended on Twitter Thursday after Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) forced a controversial asylum bill through committee.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday advanced a bill to overhaul U.S. asylum laws, waiving committee rules to force the bill through to the full Senate, where it likely won’t get the 60 votes it needs to pass.

But Graham’s move to push the bill through the panel outraged Democrats who say the South Carolina senator broke the rules on how lawmakers take up legislation in order to move a partisan bill along.

Joe Biden called Kamala Harris a 'kid' and it has not gone down well

As the California senator walked to the stage of the Fox Theatre in Detroit to shake Biden’s hand, he can be heard telling the 53-year-old congresswoman:

Go easy on me, kid.

Harris appears to smile at Mr Biden before she's heard to simply say: “How are you doing, you good?’

Kamala Harris' press secretary was one of the first to raise eyebrows over the word

I know Bidenisms and "kid" certainly is one, but urging a 54-year-old U.S. senator and opponent "go easy on me, kid" is not a great start for his efforts to reset with this debate.

UGH. I am very sure that Biden was not intending to do old man patronising... BUT...

Injecting yourself with dog insulin? Just a normal day in America

The article is a standard “triumph over adversity” piece until it casually notes in the 17th paragraph: “Williams doesn’t have medical insurance and cannot afford the treatment. So he buys insulin that’s sold for dogs at Walmart for $24.99 per bottle.”

It accepts without comment that insulin costs up to $470 a bottle and that Williams considers himself “super lucky” that somebody told him he could use the cheaper, animal-grade substitute. Super lucky?
------------
Media often invites us to be inspired by the actions of ordinary Americans persevering through tough (and wholly unnecessary) healthcare crises. For instance, children setting up lemonade stands in the hopes of paying for their baby brother’s medical treatment, their mother’s kidney transplant or their own chemotherapy. Or how about selling your beloved car to pay for your wife’s cancer?

These sorts of behaviors are largely unknown in developed countries outside the US, as all employ some form of universal healthcare plan. Drug prices are kept under control by other governments so no one is forced to risk their lives with animal-grade medicine
