If Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was about Brexit...

The Ghost of Brexit Past

It’s the job of the Ghost of Brexit Past to remind us of largely happier times. Times when we all seemed to get along so much better, we thought about the long-term and not the short-term, we made plans based on options we could be certain were available to us and our family, and our politicians represented us at our very best.

A united Europe was a dream of a generation that had to build their lives out of the blood and the rubble of the Second World War.
------------------
The Ghost of Brexit Present

The Ghost of Brexit Present is chaos without end. It is almost daily emergency cabinet meetings, falling outs, name-calling, meaningless soundbites devoid of any detail, some of the most farcical scenes ever witnessed in the House of Commons, Mrs May going to and fro between European leaders, facing a revolt among her MPs one day and being praised by them the next, no one ever agreeing on anything, and a sense among ordinary voters of utter dismay and deepening anxiety.

All the while, the legitimate concerns of ordinary voters – the state of the NHS, education, the rising levels of poverty and rough sleepers on the streets – go unaddressed. Brexit is not a policy: it is a state of continual political paralysis, disregard for the concerns of ordinary people and national humiliation.
-----------------------
The Ghost of Brexit Yet to Come

It is the job of the Ghost of Brexit Yet to Come to show how the future will look if we don’t change direction. Well, let’s just imagine that political power games, the personal greed of some individuals who believe in unfettered, red-in-tooth-and-claw capitalism, or, indeed, sheer inertia enable the worst possible scenario: a no-deal Brexit. The Ghost of Brexit Yet to Come is the most terrifying ghost of all.

Did you see in the news today that we are going to fall down 2 spots behind India and France in the worlds richest nations list - but of course nothing to do with Brexit, right? These destroyers of our land are a bloody outrage.

Florida church violated its religious exemption status and got slapped with a $7.1 million tax bill

The oldest church in Miami has been hit with a mega tax bill by the Miami-Dade Property Appraiser, which determined that the church leased a portion of its grounds to food trucks and a for-profit school — a violation of its religious exemption status, the Miami Herald reports.

The church, located at 609 Brickell Ave., has run a K-8 religious school on the property since 2008. The bill comprises a tax lien totaling $6.5 million (including interest and fines) for the years 2009-2017 and a current bill of $509,526.24 for the 2018 year.

What will happen if there is a no-deal Brexit?

However, most of the practical measures that are required to prevent the worst consequences of no deal require a deal of some form of description at a European level. The European Union has announced a series of measures it will take to avert the worst of no deal. But crucially, those measures are designed to avert the worst from the perspective of the remaining members of the European Union.

That means that the EU plans to allow planes to fly between the United Kingdom and the EU and through European airspace, and to ensure that financial services will operate: that is to say, the EU will make sure that no deal doesn’t mean that British and European tourists are stuck in airport lounges indefinitely and will want to prevent a crisis in the financial sector that could spread to the rest of Europe. But the consequences of no deal that will cause the most upheaval in the United Kingdom – that is to say, long queues at customs and shortages of food and medicine – won’t be ameliorated by the European Union.

If Parliament fuck this up and we go to a no deal exit I swear to God some of these dicks need to be done for treason. I am very cross right now.

'Winning' must be soooo exhausting

It took me 6 years to get back to where I was in 2008 with my investments. I have time on my side to weather this coming storm also. For many, not so much. For those who voted for Trump I have no sympathy - for the rest of the USA shit is about to get scary.
Of course right now I also have to deal with Brexit. Double whammy economic strife.

They literally give zero shits about the USA

Hair Furor Rages Against SNL After Being Mocked

The Hill reports:

President Trump early Sunday ripped “one sided” and “unfair” coverage, saying it should be tested in courts.

“A REAL scandal is the one sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live,” he tweeted.

Trump posted the tweet after NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” pondered a world in which the president was not elected in its latest cold open.

Ivanka Trump could be brought down by Michael Cohen -- and she doesn't see it coming

“Ivanka Trump could have liability in and of her own self,” Phang explained. “She’s apparently involved in negotiating what are higher than fair market rates. It was $107 million — the most that was ever raised for any inauguration, and really what’s at issue is the illegality of pay-to-play.”

“Did foreign nationals give money to curry the incoming Trump administration, and was there overcharging by the Trump inauguration committee, — excuse me — to the Trump inauguration committee by the Trump organization?” she elaborated. “And so really there’s going to be a lot of discovery that’s going to go if there’s this investigation.”

“They’re going to look at their financials. They’re going to be able to see what’s going on,” Phang continued before she warned, “Part of this investigation is based on evidence that was seized during the Michael Cohen raids on his office, his hotel room, and his home.”

Do you think they even feel that HUGE plank in their eye?

EVANGELICALS: "Life is sacred".

ALSO: "That little girl who died at the border had it coming.”

EVANGELICALS: “I support Bible values.”

ALSO: “I support a president who bears false witness."

EVANGELICALS: “I obsess on your homosexuality."

ALSO: “I overlook Trump’s adultery.”

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. - Matthew 7:5

Gonna guess that is a verse they do not visit regularly

How To Solve The Brexit Dilemma

A variety of impulses motivated the popular decision. Those who favored Brexit told the British people that they were sending huge sums of money to the EU. They said the nation was being overrun with unwanted immigrants. They portrayed the step as an overdue assertion of British sovereignty.

The vote reflected a generalized discontent with the status quo and the common impulse to tell the people in charge to get stuffed.

As one of the politicians who campaigned for Brexit proclaimed, “People in this country have had enough of experts.”
-------------
Fortunately, there is a solution to this excruciating dilemma: Let the people vote again. Now that they have contemplated the bleak reality the majority voted for, they would most likely leap at the chance to change their minds.

The British people are now in the position of the prisoner once cited by Winston Churchill “who languished for twenty years in a dungeon until one morning the idea struck him to push the door, which had been open all the time.” Having created the Brexit predicament, they also have a way to escape it.
