Don't look for DOJ to do anything. Rachel reading memo Garland sent to DOJ

He instructed all DOJ to the usual ” not do anything to influence an election”. As well as to adhere the Barr ruling that said any investigation has to be approved by the AG

That time the good guy with a gun was killed by police

Remember this? Why relying on the good guy with a gun is a shitty idea, especially if the good guy with a gun is black.

The police officer who shot and killed Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr., a 21-year-old black man, last year at an Alabama mall was justified in the shooting and will not be taken to trial, the state’s attorney general, Steve Marshall, said on Tuesday

The announcement comes after months of investigation into the shooting, during which police repeatedly changed their story about what happened. Shortly after the shooting on November 22, police claimed that Bradford had shot at least one person at the Riverchase Galleria mall prior to the police shooting. But police later acknowledged that Bradford didn’t shoot anyone, and arrested another man for the initial shooting.

Bradford did appear to have a gun. But he was licensed to carry a firearm, and it’s not illegal in Alabama to carry a gun in public.
Officials have repeatedly changed their story about the police shooting. They first said that Bradford was the initial shooter. They then acknowledged that Bradford wasn’t the shooter, but claimed that he “brandished” his gun. After that, they said Bradford had his gun out, but dropped the suggestion that he threatened anyone with it, CNN reported.

Bradford also had no criminal record, and he was honorably discharged from the Army.

I want to say Thank You to Journalists that continue to do their work

I remember when the journalists started asking questions about the timeline of what happened in Uvalde. They kept asking and pushing for answers about the timeline of events. Shattering the cover up and their attempts to paint themselves as heroes.
True journalism matters.

White House Drops Plan To Nominate Anti-Abortion Lawyer For Judgeship In Kentucky

Thanks? I guess??
I’m sure that weasel Rand Paul has his own asinine reason for tanking this.

Democrats and reproductive rights groups were furious that Biden was planning to nominate Chad Meredith. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) ultimately stopped it.

President Joe Biden has dropped plans to nominate a Kentucky anti-abortion attorney to a lifetime federal judgeship, a White House spokesperson said Friday.
Biden had come under intense criticism from Democrats and reproductive rights groups after the Louisville Courier-Journal broke the news that he planned to pick Chad Meredith for a seat on the U.S. District Court in eastern Kentucky.
Meredith’s potential nomination appeared to be part of a broader deal on a mix of judicial nominees being worked out behind the scenes between the White House and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
In the end, though, it was a Republican ― Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky ― who appeared to tank the potential nomination.
“In considering potential District Court nominees, the White House learned that Senator Rand Paul will not return a blue slip on Chad Meredith,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement. “Therefore, the White House will not nominate Mr. Meredith.”

Thoughts on ranked choice voting?

I’ve seen more talk of this lately.
Get rid of primaries and replace with ranked choice?

Info from FAIR VOTE
Discourages Overly Negative Campaigning
In non-RCV elections, candidates benefit from mudslinging and attacking their opponent instead of sharing their positive vision with voters. This can lead to increasingly toxic and polarizing campaigns.

With RCV, candidates also compete for second choice votes from their opponents’ supporters which lessens the incentive to run a negative campaign. In RCV contests, candidates do best when they reach out positively to as many voters as possible, including those supporting their opponents.

Voters in RCV cities report more positive campaigning and greater satisfaction with their elections. See our Research on RCV page for more on evidence of increased campaign civility and voter engagement

When the kid sitting next to their kid in 5th grade is pregnant

It will be a shit show how these pro birth folks will react. These same folks that are so worried about their kids being influenced by LGBTQ and by historical facts, will have a damn freak out about pregnant kids in the classroom.
I was pregnant during my senior year of high school. I attended an alternative high school. We had a daycare center, for obvious reasons, so that young girls are able to finish their education.
There was backlash then. The argument then was having a daycare
“gave permission “ to be a teen mother.

I can see the shit show already of what pregnant kids will be allowed to do and not do as far as their education.

GOP lawmaker admits his "research" for anti-trans bill involved watching YouTube videos

An Ohio state representative is under fire from constituents after leaked audio revealed he hadn’t spoken with any trans people before introducing a bill in the state legislature banning gender-affirming care for transgender minors. He also tried to convince a constituent to de-transition in the leaked audio.

Dubbed the Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act, House Bill 454 was introduced by state Rep. Gary Click, a Republican from Vickery, in February
Click said he’d done hours of research on the subject before writing the bill, including watching YouTube videos.

H.B. 454 would prohibit gender-affirming care for trans and nonbinary minors, including puberty blockers, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), medical or surgical procedures (even though gender affirming surgery is not performed on minors), and related mental health services. Healthcare professionals could lose their license and be sued. Public funding would be denied to participating institutions, while insurance providers and Medicaid would be prohibited from covering gender-affirming health care for minors.

The Ohio representative acknowledged he was approached in the spring of 2021 by conservative advocacy group Center for Christian Virtue (CCV) to introduce legislation banning gender transition for Ohio minors. The group has connections to every piece of anti-LGBTQ legislation recently proposed in the Ohio legislature.
