One of my real regrets is that I never got to see Prince live.

I watch his videos all the time on youtube. For the most part they are smaller venues and I can't even imagine seeing him that way.

I live in a family of trumpers

From my parents, to my siblings, to my children, and to all extended family. I am the only sane one. They listen to faux news 24/7 and AM talk radio. There is no reasoning with these people. They are off the rails. They think the election was stolen and they worship trump. They think Biden is an idiot but they are speechless when I tell them that Biden and his policies garner a 63% favorabilty for both. I am in a fight right now with both my mom and sister over this....Jeez talk about divide and conquer.... When you can't even reconcile differences amongst family members....the stuff just got real.

Eyewitness contradicts police account of fatal shooting of Black man

VIRGINIA BEACH — Donovon Lynch and Darrion Marsh went to the oceanfront strip to celebrate one of the first warm Friday nights of spring, but found themselves trying to escape what one witness described as gunfire "coming from everywhere."

Gunmen had sprayed roughly 100 shots near the throngs flocking to bars and restaurants in two separate shootings on the night of March 26. More than 100 Virginia Beach police were sweeping through the streets to quell the chaos.

Marsh glanced left and saw the shooter for the first time — a Virginia Beach police officer with a gun extended in their direction. He said he was shocked to recognize the officer as a friend.

Marsh said Lynch, who had a permit to carry a weapon, had a gun in his pocket that night but Marsh never saw it come out before or during the shooting. The account contradicts what Virginia Beach said two officers have told investigators: They saw Lynch brandishing the weapon.

Prosecutors are reportedly frustrated by lack of cooperation from Trump CFO Allen Weisselberg

Manhattan prosecutors are getting frustrated with Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg and his lack of cooperation with their investigation into the company, a person familiar with the matter told The Washington Post on Monday.

Weisselberg, 73, is the most senior executive at the Trump Organization who isn't a member of the Trump family. Prosecutors are looking into whether he paid taxes on benefits he received from former President Donald Trump, including leased cars and apartments, the Post reports. The hope has been that he would feel the squeeze and cooperate with a separate investigation into the Trump Organization and whether the company committed financial fraud by manipulating property values to get loans and tax benefits.

Former Trump Organization employees say Weisselberg plays a key role in the company and knows everything about its finances and taxes. He signs most checks and keeps a close eye on all expenses, and "to just say 'he's the money man' actually underestimates his role," Tristan Snell, the lead on the New York attorney general's completed investigation into Trump University, told the Post. "He was more than that even. He was the whole enchilada. Allen Weisselberg really ran the whole company."

*snip*

So far, Weisselberg and Trump have not been accused of any wrongdoing, but if prosecutors can prove the Trump Organization did misrepresent its assets to a bank, tax authorities, or insurers, this could be a legal disaster for Weisselberg, the Post says. Robert C. Gottlieb, a defense attorney and former prosecutor, told the Post he believes Weisselberg is "playing Russian roulette with the district attorney's office if he thinks that even if he is indicted he is going to get a pass. We're not talking about fraud involving a few thousand dollars, we're talking about allegations of a massive fraud involving millions of dollars over an extended period of time in which he as CFO."

Derek Chauvin will be sentenced on Friday...

*snip*

Cahill will sentence Chauvin on Friday, about two months after he oversaw the trial that ended in his conviction on charges of second- and third-degree murder, as well as second-degree manslaughter. Cahill has paved the way for Chauvin's punishment to be up to double the 15 years at the top of the range recommended under state guidelines, having ruled in May that there were four aggravating factors in Floyd's death.

In court documents filed this month, prosecutors asked that Cahill sentence Chauvin to 30 years. Chauvin's attorney, Eric Nelson, requested a downward departure from sentencing guidelines or a sentence of probation with time served.

*snip*

In Cahill's most recent case of sentencing on unintentional second-degree murder — the most serious charge on which Chauvin was convicted — he handed down a punishment of 15 years. In that case, Matthew Witt pleaded guilty in January 2020 to unintentional second-degree murder for beating his mother to death and to first-degree assault for violently attacking his father July 24, 2019, authorities said. He received an additional seven years for the latter charge.

*snip*

In November 2019, he sentenced a man to seven years in prison for shooting at a school bus and wounding its driver during a snowstorm in Minneapolis. The man, Kenneth Lilly, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree assault. Lilly said that he feared for his life after the slow-moving bus scraped his sedan, an argument Cahill did not buy.

After reading this article I am inclined to think Chauvin is going to get between 20-30 years.

Newly released emails show Trump pressured DOJ to challenge election results, House Oversight says

Source: CNBC

In his final days in office, former President Donald Trump pressured top Department of Justice officials to challenge his election loss to President Joe Biden, the House Oversight Committee said Tuesday.

The oversight panel said that a cache of more than 200 pages of newly released emails from Justice Department officials and White House staff sheds new light on how Trump tried to undermine the results of the 2020 election and advance unsupported voter fraud claims, with the “apparent goal” of keeping himself in power.

The documents show, among other allegations, that Trump in December pressed the Justice Department to file a Supreme Court lawsuit to nullify the election, the committee said.

The dump of new materials came hours before the Oversight Committee was set to hold its second hearing on the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol invasion.

Recount done for 2.1 million ballots in audit of Maricopa County election

PHOENIX — The hand recount of 2.1 million ballots from the 2020 Maricopa County election has been completed, an Arizona Senate spokesman said Monday.

Three boxes of Braille ballots — about 50 to 60 in total — were left to be counted along with large-type, overseas military and duplicated ballots but all others had gone through the process, which began April 23.

Ken Bennett, state Senate audit liaison, has said the end of the hand count wouldn’t immediately signal a final audit report.
