I am more and more convinced each day that Republican politicians

(and Faux Nooz) really believe that their bases are made up of morons.

Why else would they spout so much bullshit and misinformation? "I keep them angry so they vote for me?"

Meanwhile, their bases are also slowly dying out from Covid. It's like an ethnic cleansing.

Windex for Covid?

The father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding said it worked on anything.

With galaxy-class apologies to Jabba the Hutt.

After the last couple of days and seeing McCarthy's bullshit, I got this mental picture of tfg on Jabba's throne manipulating all his ass-kissing minions.

And then I got another image of a lady I won't mention doing to tfg what Leia did to Jabba. Except it may happen in a courtroom instead of on the barge.

From HuffPost: "Donald Trump Accuses Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley Of Hypocrisy"

Says the biggest fucking hypocrite in the galaxy.

Does tfg have something on McCarthy?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but it seems like McCarthy's tone and messaging over the past few days has changed, but it's different than McConnell's or the three spoiled brats.

It doesn't come across as desperation or fear exactly, but more like he's taking directions from someone (tfg, probably) or trying to do some damage control.

Anyone else notice this?

Since when did we surrender in Afghanistan?

I am so fed up with hearing this. We did not surrender. We agreed to pull our troops out of there.

And whatever tfg agreed to was not "us" or "we." It was it.

I received a "canvass" from the RNC.

I don't have a clue why I'm on their mailing list, but this is like the fourth one I've received in the last year or two.

Anyway, I had to do a slow burn at some of the questions. I can't quote them here because of the rules, but let's say they were worded specifically to get the answers they wanted by getting responders pissed off: "radical left," "socialists," "packing the courts," "defunding the police," and so on and on. I wrote BULLSHIT right across four of them.

Other questions were like "do you agree with Republicans that..." In a couple of cases I crossed out "Republicans" and said yes. One of them was whether schools should go back to teaching civics and history. Another one I agreed with was whether political correctness had gone out of control.

But those longer questions really pissed me off. "Packing the courts," right. Who's been packing the courts?

Of course there was a request for money at the end, but there was also a choice: "I can't send a donation now, but here's $15 to help pay for the cost of processing this canvass." Yeah, right. And of course responders have to provide postage.

Fuck 'em.

Does anyone still have their P38 can opener?

I still have mine from boot camp back in the 70s, on my everyday key ring. Use it all the time for little things. Just now I used it to open the packet of dressing that came with a Trader Joe's Caesar salad.

Just wondering...

tfg didn't pull out of Afghanistan because

he and his minions knew it would be a mess. They left it for Biden to clean up and take the fall.

But that brings up a question: what if tfg had won the election? Would we have stayed there? He already claimed he would have done it differently, but would he?

Which brings up another question. Is all this "stolen election" bullshit just theater? Did they know the insurection would fail?

I know that's giving these assholes a lot of credit for thinking, but I do have to wonder.

Dear President Biden,

You have a lot on your mind right now with the withdrawal from Afghanistan, but I'd like to throw an idea, about something else, on the table.

The term "national security" has been used and re-used over the years to cover a multitude of situations and issues. Right now, Covid is affecting the entire nation, not just the dictatorships that DeSantis, Abbott, and their cronies are trying to create. People are still travelling between states and can easily transmit the virus over state borders. That is a nationwide problem.

I suggest you get a hold of several people who are very good at spinning stories, come up with a reasonable way to spin the Covid problem into "national security," and sign an executive order making it a Federal crime for states, local governments, school districts, corporations, and other entities to prohibit or take adverse action against people for wearing masks if they choose to do so.
.
This not the same as mandating that people wear masks -- this is a prohibition against mandating people to NOT wear masks. A couple of good constitutional scholars can probably find a way, or a precedent, to refer to the Constitution as the governing document.

At the same time, I suggest you get a few media-savvy people, including Jen Psaki, to anticipate how the right-wing media will respond to this and take steps to pre-empt or tear it apart it once they do.

If this happens in a timely manner, we know the media will pounce on it and more than likely cut back on their doom-and-gloom coverage of Afghanistan.

Best regards,
