"This is such a unique and rare circumstance in history and in our lives,"

“This is such a unique and rare circumstance in history and in our lives,” said Andrew Fleming, a psychologist who also runs, with his wife, a wedding venue on their farm on San Juan Island, north of Seattle. “In 10 years, in 20 years, in 30 years, we will be asking each other, ‘What did you do during the coronavirus?’ and we will be asking ourselves, ‘How did you respond?’”

------------

Mental health professionals in Seattle have been overwhelmed with work for the past month, and many are juggling their own concerns with the anxiety of their patients.

Julia Hitch, 40, is a psychologist and a founder of the Seattle Clinic, a practice of 21 therapists. Last week, she saw patients back-to-back, including over the weekend, because of the influx of college students who have returned home after canceled semesters, disoriented and depressed.

This week, she is meeting with patients over video conferencing, working out of the spare bedroom that she and her husband are sharing as a makeshift office.

A big part of her practice is working with patients who have obsessive-compulsive disorder, including some she has worked with for years to overcome ritualistic hand-washing. “For someone who has stopped doing that, now it feels like a huge loss to them to have to go back to these behaviors,” she said.

30 cruise ships, containing 1000s of passengers, are still at sea looking for a place to dock

Among the 30 or so still at sea, Norwegian Jewel is heading toward Honolulu, Hawaii, but no one's quite sure whether it'll be allowed to dock there.

On board, Jay says guests have been riding waves of emotion -- relief when hearing of an imminent destination followed by disappointment when the plans were abandoned.

So far everyone on board the Norwegian Jewel is well, with no cases of coronavirus or quarantined passengers.

Still, Jay says guests are concerned and highly anxious, with tensions rising as the ship's trajectory became increasingly uncertain.
Everyone's aware, he says, that there's a real possibility that this could continue for days or weeks.

There are worries about medication running out, the health of friends, families and livelihoods back home.

On board the Pacific Princess, Ron Ernst says passenger moods fluctuated. It was mostly fear of the unknown that concerned them.
In fact, some were dreading returning to a reality that's become far from "normal."
"We were healthy and comfortable as long we are in our safe cocoon," says Ron. "Not everyone is looking forward to getting back to the world."

NEW: Turns out GOP Senator Kelly Loeffler's HUSBAND - the CEO of the NYSE - *ALSO* sold $3.5 million worth of shares just before they plummeted 25%. I'm sure this is all a coincidence though and had nothing to do with his wife's Senate briefings.

President Donald Trump said Saturday he wasn’t sure if his business would receive financial assistance as part of coronavirus relief packages being considered by Congress.

“I don’t know. I mean, I just don’t know what the government assistance would be for what I have,” Trump said at a White House briefing. “I have hotels. Everybody knew I had hotels when I got elected. They knew I was a successful person when I got elected so it’s one of those things.”

Fishermen return home to shuttered California, nowhere to sell their catch

https://www.sfgate.com/news/medical/article/Fishermen-return-from-sea-with-big-catch-no-15147954.php

The coronavirus literally traveled over them from Asia to California while they were on the high seas catching tuna.

When Haworth left a month ago to fish about 600 miles (970 kilometers) from the coast, the coronavirus was still concentrated primarily in China. The general feeling, he said, was that it was coming under control. President Donald Trump was telling the nation the numbers were only going to get better.

------------

As his crew motored farther out to sea, a pandemic was declared, though Haworth didn't know it because his radio was broken.

It wasn't until they were returning weeks later and were within 50 miles (80 kilometers), or about five hours away, that they picked up a signal for their TV to work and learned from the news of the worldwide closures, including in California and the Philippines, where many of his crew members have family.

California on Friday confined its 40 million residents to home in the strictest response yet.

“The second we saw the news, I knew we were screwed," Haworth said as he drove a boat filled with thousands of pounds of fish toward home. “We were all like, ‘What the hell is going on?’"

The wholesale buyers who agreed to buy the fish reneged, he said.

Haworth was grateful people were lining up — keeping a safe distance apart, of course. The fishermen were also offering home deliveries.

Just saw a nurse, leaving an overnight shift at the hospital, remove a parking ticket from her windshield.

She asked the officer if there was any way he could reverse it. He said no and told her to fight it online.

Not a single thank you.

Cancel fucking meters,
