Mom's April Fools' Joke Results in Her ArrestWichita woman arrested after telling daughter she'd been shot
Mom's April Fools' Joke Doesn't Amuse Police
(NEWSER) Even if this were a normal year when April Fools' jokes were in style, this one surely would have missed the mark. A 58-year-old woman in Wichita ended up arrested after calling her daughter to say she'd been shot, reports KSN. Her understandably freaked-out daughter called police. "Multiple police units, probably between 15 to 20 officers from the Wichita Police Department as well as fire department and EMS responded to the scene," police Lt. Ronald Hunt tells the Wichita Eagle.
When nobody answered the door, officers busted it down with guns drawn. As it turns out, nobody was home. Mom Arnthia Willis was actually at work, safe and sound. "Through further investigation, we learned that this was an April Fools' joke played on the daughter by the mother," says Hunt. Willis has been charged with unlawful request for emergency service assistance.

Police say Arnthia Willis, 58, called a family member this morning and said she had been shot.
The concerned family member called 911 around 8:30 a.m. Dispatchers sent multiple officers, EMS, even firefighters, to what they thought was a shooting at a home in the 4800 block of E. Arlene.
Officers surrounded the home, blocked streets, and tried to reach out to anyone inside the home. When they did not get a response, they went into the home. It was empty.
Police investigated and say they learned it was an April Fools Day joke.

Orange County gunman, shooting seems to be related to business dispute, mobile home company
PICTURED: Gunman, 44, who 'shot four people dead at an LA office complex and chained the gates closed so cops couldn't get in': Police say shooter knew all his victims - including boy, 9, found dead in a woman's arms
Aminadab Gaxiola Gonzalez, 44, from Fullerton, was named as the suspect in the shooting on Thursday
Police said a nine-year-old boy shot dead was found in the arms of a woman, who was critically injured
The massacre which left four dead and two injured took place at 5.30pm at an office block in Orange
The victims are said to have had either a personal or business relationship with the alleged shooter
Cops arrived to live gunfire and at least one officer shot at the suspect who was injured and taken to hospital
It is the third mass shooting in two weeks after the Atlanta spa attack and the Boulder grocery massacre
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9428077/PICTURED-Suspect-44-shooting-left-four-dead-including-nine-year-old-boy.html
Police said the shooting involved the office suites of a company called Unified Homes, a mobile home brokerage. Lt. Amat added: 'The preliminary motive is believed to be related to a business and personal relationship which existed between the suspect and all the adults.'
Gonzalez is said to have had 'issues' with those at the location as part of a 'business dispute', officials said.
Paul Tovar had told KTLA-TV Wednesday that his brother owns United Homes. 'He's not answering his phone, neither's my niece,' Mr Tovar said. 'I'm pretty scared and worried - right now I'm just praying really hard.'
Hector Gomez works in the building. He had told The New York Times that the woman who ran a real estate office - where the windows were shot out Wednesday - would often bring her son to work.
Georgia Faces Growing Backlash Over Voter Law
https://www.newser.com/story/304407/georgia-faces-growing-backlash-over-voter-law.html?utm_source=part&utm_medium=uol&utm_campaign=rss_topThe leaders of Coca Cola and Delta Air Lines, two of Georgia's largest corporations, are speaking out about the state's new voting law, along with the president of Microsoft, which has plans to create a hub in Atlanta.
In a Wednesday memo to employees, Delta CEO Ed Bastian wrote that the company had worked behind the scenes "to try and remove some of the most egregious measures" from the "unacceptable" law, which he says is "based on a lie" of widespread voter fraud, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Bastian said the law would make it "harder for many underrepresented voters, particularly Black voters" to vote. Hours later, Coca Cola CEO James Quincey urged lawmakers to revisit the law, telling CNBC that the company had "always opposed" it.
Microsoft President Brad Smith criticized the law in a company blog, noting "we voiced concern about this legislation even before it was passed."

The Republican Poseurs Who Claim to Be True Texans
The Republican Poseurs Who Claim to Be True TexansDan Rodimer and Chip Roy are just the latest carpetbaggers who have moved to the Lone Star State to capitalize on the GOPs Trumpian turn.
Earlier this week, a campaign video emerged out of Texas showing a brawny bull-rider trying to buck his way into Congress. The ad, featuring Republican candidate and former professional wrestler Dan Rodimer, checked all the Republican boxes, from complaints about communism to whingeing about how Democrats hate our way of life. Commies in D.C. are ruining America, railed Rodimer, claiming the time had come to make America Texas again. For good measure, Rodimer referred to himself in the third person as Big Dan.
There was little to distinguish Rodimers ad from dozens of other campaign clips from Trumpian Republicans. But one thing stood out: As reporters from both the American Independent and The Washington Post found, Rodimer hardly has any claim to representing Texas.
Originally from New Jersey, Rodimer attended a preparatory school in the suburbs before moving to Florida for college and law school, the Post wrote, while noting Rodimers buttoned-up, mild-mannered campaign ads from just a year before, when he ran for Congress in Nevada.
Trading his starched polo for a 10-gallon hat and replacing his meek voice with a half-baked impression of Doc Holliday, Rodimer had refashioned himself as a cosplay cowboyone whod firmly back the kinds of illiberal, authoritarian policies swiftly rising in popularity on the Texas right.
--------
These faux-Texans who are racing to out-bigot one another are living in the past, clinging to an image of Texas from the mid-twentieth century rather than the ethnically and economically diverse juggernaut the state has become. But one of the great ironies of these carpetbaggers is that, according to the conventional wisdom of Texas conservatives, the cause of the states leftward shift is the arrival of out-of-staters.

https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/A-plane-dropped-a-pink-cloud-in-gender-reveal-16069037.phpThe small plane arced over a blue lagoon near the Caribbean Sea, flying low above a family in a boat on Tuesday afternoon. As they clapped, it released a pink cloud into the sky.
"Girl! Girl!" a man aboard the boat yelled in Spanish, celebrating the dramatic results of the elaborate gender-reveal stunt for a new baby in the family. "It's a girl!"
Seconds later, the family's video shows, the small aircraft plummeted into the Nichupté Lagoon, a body of water off the east coast of Cancún, as the family and their guests watched in disbelief.
"No way!" a man cried in Spanish with an obscenity. "It went into the water."

My Summary... cops are walking thru an apartment building to speak to Mr. fyle. Another tenant kicks his door shut. Officer Leibfried hears the banging noise and decides to fire shots thru Mr. Fyle's closed door. Mr. Fyle screams. Offier Leibfried fires two more shots thru Mr. Fyles door.https://www.dailydot.com/irl/video-cop-shoots-man-through-door/
Recently released body camera footage shows a police officer in Minnesota firing several shots through a closed door, injuring a man.
The footage shows the officers seeking cover before Leibfried says shots fired over the radio. About 10 seconds after the banging noises were heard, Leibfried pulls out his gun, firing into the door, which had no signs of damage, four times.
Fyle, 23, can be heard yelling out in pain and pleading with the officer to stop. Leibfried fires an additional two rounds into the door. Fyle, along with others in the building, can still be heard screaming.
Please! Stop! Fyle screams. Can I open the door? Stop! Ow! I got shot! Open the door! Open the door! Please! Stop!
He repeats stop at least nine times, Twin Cities reports.
Leibfried then calls for medical assistance for Fyle.
Before the incident occurred, the officers had already decided that there did not appear to be probable cause to arrest Fyle but that they still wanted to speak with him. Leibfried failed to announce himself as police.
Leibfried has since been charged with intentional and reckless discharge of a firearm. The footage was released after his attorney requested to dismiss the two felony firearm charges against him. Sixth Judicial District Judge Sally Tarnowski upheld the charges on Monday.
Duluth police said Leibfried will remain off-duty indefinitely, according to Twin Cities.
Fyle still has a bullet lodged in his back and has since retained an attorney, though it remains unclear what legal action he plans to take.
