Mass casualty incident declared in Isla Vista over Deltopia partying
Medical calls, including a report of a female who fell from a roof, were keeping emergency personnel in Isla Vista busy on Saturday during the unsanctioned event dubbed Deltopia. At approximately 1:15 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive for a report of a fall victim, according to emergency dispatch reports. Later Saturday afternoon, emergency personnel responded to a report of a fall from a second-story window on El Nido Lane.
---------
Adding to the worries related to the gathering with heavy crowds was the fact that many balconies are overcrowded, he said.

Deltopia evolved from Floatopia, which started in 2004 and included a beach part. It has been banned since 2009 after it was deemed an environmental and safety hazard because of trash, human waste and near-drownings.
Since then, beaches are closed that weekend, and the party migrated a block inland to Del Playa Drive.
Authorities ramped up patrols after a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student fell to her death off the cliffs in 2008 and an overcrowded balcony collapsed, injuring several partygoers.
With social media spreading the word, the party has grown in size.

Police Chief Quits After Ordering 'Unarrest' of Local Official after assault caught on camera
A Florida police chief has quit after ordering the "unarrest" of a city councilman.
The Riviera Beach Police Department said in a statement that Chief Nathan Osgood had resigned on Friday after an internal investigation and an independent inquiry both found he had "deviated from proper procedure" last August, when Councilman Douglas Lawson was detained over a domestic dispute.
On August 29, 2021, Lawson was caught on surveillance cameras shoving his then fiancée, Jade Calloway, according to WPTV. The incident took place in the elevator and parking garage of the Marina Grande condominium, where the couple lived.
--------
The Riviera Beach PD added that the independent report found Osgood had "directed the un-arrest of Lawson without direct on-scene knowledge and with limited information." The independent inquiry determined that the allegations of misconduct against Osgood were inconclusive.

Emma Roth, a staff attorney with the National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) said no state in the union has ever passed a law like this because, for starters, it's unconstitutional.
Stylus Pintuck Womens Jogger Pant | Black | Womens X-Small | Pants Jogger Pants
This is completely unprecedented because it is so clearly unconstitutional, she said.
Roth said Oklahoma considered a similar provision in 2018 through executive order but backed off amid the high possibility of a legal challenge.
texas Court Denies the Appeal of Amber Guyger, the Ex-cop Who Killed Botham Jean In His Apartment
Guyger was sentenced in 2019 for shooting Botham Jean in his own apartment a year earlier, arguing before and during her trial that she thought he was in her place and that she fired the fatal shots in self defense.
That implausible defense didnt work in her favor then and it apparently doesnt work now, as Texas Court of Appeals rejected Guygers request to have her case reviewed. A lower court had already tossed out her appeal in which she actually argued that she shouldnt be in prison because she legitimatelybut mistakenlythought she was in her own apartment when she shot Jean, who was literally on his own couch eating ice cream when she barged in.
Oh the Karen of it all.
------
In a legal statement in response to the original appeal, Creuzots office was terse: When, intending to kill, you shoot an unarmed man in the chest while hes sitting on his couch eating ice cream, thats murder regardless of where you think you are when you do it.
It could be worse for Guyger, who at the time was a Dallas police officer. She becomes eligible for parole for the first time next year, which is a helluva lot sooner than Jean will be eligible to do anything.

Rudy Giuliani says his son's 'first act' as governor will be to fire DA who dropped Trump prosecutio
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was an attorney for Donald Trump, said this week that his son's first act as governor would be to fire the district attorney who decided not to prosecute the former president.
While speaking to conservative broadcaster Steve Bannon, Giuliani revealed that his son, Andrew Giuliani, plans to fire New York City District Attorney Alvin Bragg despite the decision not to prosecute Trump.
"You're telling me -- I want to make sure we're clear -- Andrew Giuliani as governor of New York, the first action he will take will be to dismiss -- and they have the power to dismiss the DA?" Bannon asked.
"And the mayor!" Giuliani confirmed. "I could have at any time been dismissed by the governor of New York."
"In the case of Bragg, he gets dismissed for not following his oath of office," he continued. "He doesn't have a right to set up whole categories of crime that he's not going to prosecute. He has the right to not prosecute a particular case for some reason. But he doesn't have a right to say, 'Oh, I'm not going to prosecute anybody who does a hold-up but doesn't shoot anybody.'"

Signs of a housing bubble are brewing, prices rising to point of "exuberance
https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/30/homes/us-housing-market-bubble/index.html"Our evidence points to abnormal US housing market behavior for the first time since the boom of the early 2000s," the researchers wrote. "Reasons for concern are clear in certain economic indicators ... which show signs that 2021 house prices appear increasingly out of step with fundamentals."
------------------------
But this time, the economists said they are worried about a different scenario.
Just because home prices are rising wildly does not always mean housing is in a bubble. And there are lots of reasons why home prices have risen steadily over the past decade -- and shot up even more significantly in the past two years -- including supply and demand imbalances in the market, rising labor and construction costs and how high or low the interest rates are for a mortgage, the researchers pointed out.
But they said prices may be rising to a point they call "exuberance," in which prices become increasingly out of sync with the economic fundamentals underpinning the market.
One possible reason, they suggested, is that buyers may believe prices will continue to climb and fear they will miss out on snagging a lower price on a home now and get stuck paying more later.
This fear of missing out, or FOMO, effect can drive up prices and heighten expectations of higher prices ahead. That can create a self-fulfilling prophecy, researchers said, in which price growth can become exponential.
