The Most Unexpected Consequence of the Texas Abortion Ban

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/the-most-unexpected-consequence-of-the-texas-abortion-ban/ar-AAWy47R

**long article about women's rush to make the shortened window for abortion. Peeing on a pregnancy stick every day. Feeling they dont have enough time to make a decision. Deer in headlights look when told they now have to travel to another state. ***

really sad and scary for women

--------------

It takes about five weeks for the first glimmer of a pregnancy, a gestational sac, to show up on a uterine ultrasound. About seven days after that, fetal cardiac cells begin moving in unison, at which point clinics like Houston Women’s Reproductive Services are no longer permitted to terminate the pregnancy. The week in between these two milestones is a precious, fast-closing window that patients can easily miss.

The timing is made even trickier by another Texas law that requires each patient to see the same doctor for two separate appointments, scheduled at least 24 hours apart, before terminating her pregnancy.

The average patient used to come to the office around the seventh or eighth week of pregnancy. Now, many patients are coming in so early that their pregnancies are undetectable by the ultrasound machine, even if their pregnancy tests come back positive. They are often distraught when told to return in a week for another ultrasound, especially if their work and family obligations would prevent them from traveling out of state if they miss their chance in Texas.

“Women are peeing on sticks every day,” said Catalina Leaño, 51, the lead nurse at Houston Women’s Reproductive Services. “People are coming in in chaos and desperation, with this anxiety that you’re either too early or you’re too late.”

man gets away with his third murder

An elderly man was acquitted Friday of murdering a woman with whom he had an on-and-off relationship. Jimmy Jackson, 75, is free, but that leaves the family of Daisy Hayes, 65, voicing anguish. As far as they are concerned, the killer got away.

----------------
.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed Jackson dragging a large suitcase out of Hayes’ apartment in 2018. The missing woman was five feet, two inches tall, and she weighed just 85 pounds, her daughter said, according to NBC Chicago.

“You see him struggling with this suitcase,” Smith said. “You see him actually put the suitcase in the dumpster. You actually see him take garbage from other dumpsters to put on top of her so it can be concealed.”

Cook County Judge Diana Kenworthy determined in a bench trial, however, that this was not enough to convict Jackson.

She looked at the suitcase footage and other video showing Jackson coming and going from Hayes apartment with cleaning supplies and wearing different clothes, according to NBC Chicago.

But the judge said that Hayes, who was 65, had been drinking the day she went missing. There was no sign of a struggle at her apartment, or biological evidence of a crime, she said.

Jackson was previously charged with two counts of murder in a 1985 case, according to NBC Chicago. Prosecutors dropped the charges after a witness repeatedly did not show up to court.

Arab Militia Kills Scores in Sweeping Attack in Sudan's Darfur

Arab Militia Kills Scores in Sweeping Attack in Sudan’s Darfur
The assault by hundreds of Janjaweed fighters, the latest in a series of clashes, was another sign of Sudan's deepening security and political crisis.[/b

KHARTOUM, Sudan — Hundreds of Arab militia fighters, many riding motorbikes or driving vehicles mounted with guns, attacked a village in Sudan’s western Darfur region on Sunday, torching homes and shops and killing at least 150 people, aid groups and United Nations officials said.

The violence, which later spread to a nearby town, was the latest in a series of clashes involving Arab and ethnic African groups in Darfur in recent months, and one of the country’s deadliest episodes in years. The attack highlighted the growing security vacuum that experts say has worsened in tandem with a political crisis in Sudan, where the military seized power in October.

The General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced in Darfur, an aid agency, said 168 people had been killed and another 98 injured in the violence around Kereneik in West Darfur.

A United Nations official in Sudan confirmed that account, saying the U.N. had received reports of 150 and 200 deaths. The attack started at dawn, when hundreds of armed men encircled Kereneik before opening fire, later going house to house and killing civilians, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the lack of permission to speak publicly.

egging of trucker convoy wasnt planned. trucks made error of driving past young people & Safeway

a perfect group of events: Detoured trucks, california traffic, bored young people in DARK BLUE CITY, grocery store selling eggs.

Inept 'People's Convoy' chased out of Bay Area by egg-throwing kids

The dreams of the “People’s Convoy” quickly died in the Bay Area after a critical tactical error: turning onto a street with a Safeway and a group of bored kids.

The trucker convoy, which aimed to emulate the disruptive Canadian protests against COVID-19 restrictions, has failed spectacularly at every turn. During a few weeks of driving around Washington, D.C., the convoy was held up by a single bicyclist, and some convoy members said they were having difficulty finding places for bathroom breaks and, as a result, were forced to urinate in their pants.

After an anemic showing in Washington, the convoy made the long drive back across the country, landing in the Bay Area this week. Since the convoy began, practically all major COVID restrictions have been lifted in the United States, so it appears it’s switched its messaging to support other conservative causes.

On Friday afternoon, the small convoy of semitrucks, pickup trucks, minivans and other cars drove to Democratic Assemblymember Buffy Wicks’ East Bay home to protest her support of an abortion rights bill. As they honked and used bullhorns in the quiet residential neighborhood, neighbors gathered to heckle them right back, yelling at the truckers to get off their street.

Livestreams posted by convoy participants show police arriving to protect Wicks’ home, which eventually prompted the group to move on. It was here the convoy members made their mistake, driving onto busy, one-lane College Avenue on the Berkeley-Oakland border. There, slowed down by the usual Friday afternoon traffic, they were sitting ducks outside the Safeway. A large group of kids, armed with eggs purchased at the grocery store, began pelting the convoy.

long island man shoots ding dong ditcher with shotgun

ALong Island man was arrested after he shot a 15-year-old boy who knocked on his door as part of a 'ding dong ditch' prank with his friends during a sleepover.

James Moshier's Southhold, 64, was charged with assault and recklessly injuring a child with a deadly weapon after firing a shotgun at the teen on Thursday.

The boy, who has not been named, had to be airlifted to a local hospital where he is being observed but expected to fully recover.

The incident began on Thursday night when a group of seven teens gathered at a nearby house for a sleepover birthday party. During the night, they got bored and decided to play ding dong ditch - a game where children ring someone's doorbell and run away before someone comes to the door.

But the young boy's prank did not go over well and a woman inside Moshier's home believed they were being burglarized.

'We had several kids that were running around the neighborhood knocking on doors and running away and one of the residents felt that somebody was trying to get into the house, felt threatened, felt frightened, and woke up the male occupant of the house, who went to the back door and discharged a shotgun,' Southold Town Police Captain James Ginas told CBS News.

After knocking on Moshier's door three times, the homeowner fired his shotgun through the glass, striking the boy in his upper right arm.

Florida Sheriff's advice for homeowners dealing with burglars: Shoot them and 'save taxpayer's money

A Florida Sheriff made his way into the national discussion this week because he is encouraging homeowners to shoot anyone who breaks into their home.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson, in fact, reportedly took it a step further, and said it’s his preference that homeowners shoot burglars.

“If somebody is breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot at them in Santa Rosa County,” Johnson said, according to the Miami Herald. “We prefer that you do actually.”

Johnson made his statement while discussing the arrest of Brandon J. Harris, who he said his department has arrested 17 times. And, the Herald reported, Harris faces seven charges after his latest arrest in the Pace neighborhood.

**His remarks were made in response to a homeowner who took shots at Harris and missed and has not come forward**

“Come see us,” he added, according to the Herald. “We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday, and if you take that, you’ll shoot a lot better and hopefully save taxpayer’s money.”

California woman dropped phone into forest toilet. uses dog leash to lower herself into toilet

As reported by KCPQ in Seattle, the unidentified woman dropped her cellphone while using it on the toilet at the mountaintop, which is a part of Olympic National Forest, Tuesday afternoon.

The woman took desperate measures to rescue her phone, according to a Facebook post shared Tuesday by the Brinnon Fire Department, first dissembling the toilet seat and using her dog’s leash to latch onto the phone. When that was unsuccessful, she ended up using the dog’s leash as a harness to lower herself into the toilet.

“They didn’t work very well and in she went,” Brinnon Fire Department Chief Tim Manly told the Kitsap Sun. The Brinnon Fire Department said in the post that she fell in the toilet headfirst.

The woman reportedly struggled for 15 minutes, Manly added, before she was able to retrieve her phone. Fortunately, she was able to get cell service and called 911 to the scene.
