Family of Costco shooting victim speaks out as LAPD investigates officer's actions

The Los Angeles Police Department is gathering evidence and video footage in an administrative investigation into an off-duty officer who shot and killed a man authorities say attacked him inside a Southern California Costco Wholesale warehouse store. Authorities remained tight-lipped Sunday, not responding to requests for comment about what provoked the Friday night confrontation and whether anyone but the officer was armed. Two others were critically injured in the shooting in Corona, which is about 40 miles east of Los Angeles.

The officer opened fire after Kenneth French, 32, of Riverside, "assaulted" him "without provocation" as the officer held his young child, Corona police said Saturday.

Bullets struck French and two of his family members, according to police. The officer was the only person who fired shots in the store, police said.

Shureih also told CBS L.A. the other two victims were French's parents, Russell and Paola French, and said they remained in an intensive care unit Sunday. Authorities have not officially released their names.

Shureih said the incident had to be a horrible misunderstanding, according to CBS L.A. He said his cousin was "never violent." He said Kenneth had "mental issues," but nothing that ever made him violent. He described Kenneth as a big guy and because of his issues he had a blank look on his face.

On Facebook, Shureih wrote: "I'm not keeping quiet about this. People need to know this is my family."

The LAPD will continue its internal probe as Corona police and the Riverside County district attorney's office conduct a separate investigation into the shooting. The LAPD said Sunday it had no further information. Corona police and the district attorney's office did not respond to requests for comment Sunday.

The infamous Trump baby balloon may fly over Trump's planned 4th of July speech

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/12/us/trump-baby-balloon-july-4th-speech-trnd/index.html

It's been seen in the UK and Argentina. Versions of it have flown over border cities and protests around the US. Now, a feminist activist group has announced they are planning to fly a round, diapered Donald Trump baby balloon during the President's 4th of July address at the Lincoln Memorial.

The group, Code Pink, said in a statement that they plan to show up near Trump's much-touted Independence Day speech "to protest the racism, hatred, fear, and militarism that Trump stands for and promotes."

"On July 4, CODEPINK will parade the Baby Trump blimp in DC as an all out call to reject Trump," the announcement reads.
"When Trump speaks at the Lincoln Memorial, let's show him what a big baby he is!"

Jay-Z hired lawyer for Phoenix Ariz family in Barbie Doll arrest video

https://www.xxlmag.com/news/2019/06/jay-z-lawyer-family-suing-police/

Jay-Z is reportedly stepping in to assist a Phoenix, Ariz. family with legal help after video recently surfaced of the police pulling guns on their child over a shoplifting incident.
The incident occurred in May. Dravon Ames, his fiancee Iesha Harper and their 4-year-old daughter were shopping at Family Dollar when the child lifted a Barbie doll unbeknownst to the parents. After leaving the store, they drove to an apartment complex when they say they were approached by an angry police officer who threatened to kill them.

"Our hands are up, we're just trying not to get shot, trying to stay calm," Ames said. "He had a gun drawn."

Video of the traumatizing incident, which has gone viral, shows officers with their guns drawn and yelling obscenities at the couple and their young daughter. According to a Fox News 10 report published on Saturday (June 15), the couple has filed a $10 million lawsuit and plan to pursue child neglect complaints against the officers who acted out of line. Hov has put one of his lawyers on the case. The billionaire rapper has reportedly hired Alex Spiro to join the family's legal team—pro-bono.

He thought he snagged a Florida villa for $9,100. He got a foot-wide strip of land.

https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fl-ne-tax-auction-leaves-buyer-hurting-20190615-d573l2aw7nbk7hgf4y2d36qcoy-story.html

Kerville Holness thought he’d done a great job snapping up a $177,000 Tamarac villa for only $9,100.

But that’s not what he actually bought during a Broward online auction of properties that had defaulted on their taxes.

He got a 1-foot-wide, 100-foot-long strip of land on Northwest 100th Way — valued at $50.

It starts at the curb where two mailboxes have been installed, goes under the wall separating the garages of two adjoining Spring Lake villas, then extends out to the back of the lot.

And officials say he’s stuck with the deal.

So what can Holness do now? Make the people living there get their mailboxes off his grass? Remove the water meters that are in his ground? Maybe try to charge rent to both villas for the joint wall and roof that sit on his land?

“If I’m vindictive enough, I can cut right through the garage wall and the home to get to my air space, but what use would that be to me?” Holness said.

What he wants is for the county to void the deal and give him his money back.

“It’s deception,” said Holness, a first-time auction bidder from Tamarac. “There was no demarcation to show you it’s just a line going through [the villa duplex], even though they have the tools to show that.”

Holness said that property appraiser pictures linked to the auction site showed the villa as being the parcel he was bidding on.

But the appraiser’s site and information on the county’s tax site also show the negligible value of the property, that there is no building value, that the land takes up only 100 square feet and that the property is one-foot wide.

Officials say state law does not allow the refund Holness is seeking.

The message from county officials and real estate experts is that auction participants need to do their homework and make sure they’ve checked for all possible problems a property might have.

We’re going to have to turn out in such large numbers in 2020 that no amount of Russian meddling, voter suppression, or gerrymandering can stop us from seizing back our country from the crooks, cheats and traitors who stole it from us.
