Trump's approval rating is in the pooper in Michigan, 28% believes he deserves re-election

In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump famously defied the odds by narrowly breaking through the so-called Midwestern "blue wall," which included Michigan. A new poll from NBC News, however, shows that wall could be being rebuilt.

In Michigan — which Trump won by less than 11,000 votes — only 36 percent of registered voters approve of Trump and 54 percent disapprove, according to the poll. Meanwhile, only 28 percent believe he deserves re-election, while 62 percent want someone else to be president.

Trump fared similarly in another "blue wall" state, Wisconsin, which he won by nearly 23,000 votes. There, just 36 percent approve of the president, 52 percent disapprove, 31 percent say he should be re-elected, and 63 percent say he should not.

U.S.
TRUMP IS LOSING HILLARY HATERS AND THAT COULD COST REPUBLICANS THE HOUSE IN MIDTERMS: POLL

Many boiled the 2016 election down to whether or not they could stand Hillary Clinton as president, instead of viewing President Donald Trump as a capable commander-in-chief.

But with Trump serving as one of the most polarizing leaders in the country’s history, a new poll has indicated the voters who originally picked Trump due to their dislike of Clinton could swing the other way during this fall’s midterm elections.

Fifty-one percent of so-called “Never Hillary” independent voters disapprove of Trump, with 47 percent approving, according to an Axios/Survey Monkey poll released Friday. The online poll drew its results from 52,211 respondents and had a margin-of-error of 1.5 percentage points.

The disapproval for Trump among the group, even if narrow, could be a worrying sign for the

Ivanka Trump has decided to shut down her fashion business in order to continue the work she’s been doing in Washington. Like what? Helping her tremendously unqualified husband negotiate the Middle East peace process which has forever been impossible to solve?

Or maybe helping her husband’s ex-felon father prosper in the real estate world? How about helping out all those “Women Who Work,” (her book title), and their kids which she’s so passionate about? How about helping her father to continue his feminist agenda?

Of her employees who actually will be losing their jobs, she wrote, “While we will not continue our mission together, I know that each of them will thrive in their next chapter.” What? Mission? Selling blouses and shoes is a mission?

Does her wish that they all continue to thrive include the workers in China who make her clothes for less than a buck an hour? The workers about whom, Bloomberg News wrote, work “12.5 hours per day, six days a week, which amounts to a monthly salary of just 2,500 yuan ($363).”

Leaked police emails suggest Stormy Daniels's strip club arrest was 'pre-planned' by an officer

Leaked emails from the Columbus Police Department suggest Stormy Daniels's July 12 arrest was pre-planned.
Columbus Police Det. Shana Keckley appeared to research Daniels's July 11 show before the arrest and bragged to colleagues after taking the porn star into custody.
In an email from 3:50 a.m. on July 12, hours after the arrest, Keckley wrote: "You're Welcome!!!!!"
Stormy Daniels's recent arrest at a Columbus, Ohio, strip club may have been pre-planned, police emails leaked by a whistleblower suggest.

According to leaked emails obtained by The Fayette Advocate, Columbus Police Det. Shana Keckley appeared to research Daniels's July 11 show before the arrest and bragged to colleagues after the porn star was taken into custody.

Emails from Keckley's account provided by a whistleblower show that the detective collected news stories about Daniels, video clips of Daniels dancing, and a map to Sirens Gentlemen's Club in the days before the arrest.

On July 10, email records show Keckley emailing herself a video of Daniels in West Hollywood and an NBC 4 Columbus article promoting her July 11 appearance at Sirens.

Emails also show Keckley sending herself a photo of Daniels with President Donald Trump.

Nunes used political donations for $15K in NBA tickets, winery tours, Vegas trips: report

http://thehill.com/homenews/house/397845-nunes-spent-15k-of-political-donations-on-celtic-tickets-vega-trips

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) used political donations to pay for almost $15,000 in tickets for Boston Celtics games, winery tours and trips to Las Vegas, according to a McClatchy article published Thursday.

Nunes, who is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, used money from his PAC to purchase Celtics tickets three times last year, according to McClatchy's analysis of reports from the Federal Election Commission and two watchdog groups.

His PAC, called New PAC, has also footed the bill for lavish Las Vegas events since 2013, spending a total of $42,741 on catering, rentals, hotels and meals, McClatchy reported.

The most recent Las Vegas expenses were noted in March, when the group sent $7,229 at seven restaurants and hotels, McClatchy reported, adding that the PAC spent thousands at six wineries in Paso Robles and Santa Margarita, Calif.

The outlet also noted that the wineries are located outside of his congressional district.

The PAC spent $5,000 one day on a limousine service. A separate $4,409 charge is listed for the Sea Venture, a beach hotel about 20 miles from Santa Margarita, McClatchy reported.

All of the transactions are listed as fundraising expenses, according to the

Opinion: Trump cannot keep his corruption hidden forever. Here's what's coming.

https://www.sfgate.com/opinion/article/Trump-cannot-keep-his-corruption-hidden-forever-13107292.php

Two of the biggest stories in Washington right now - President Donald Trump's battle with lawyer Michael Cohen, and a federal judge's decision to let a lawsuit alleging ongoing violations of the Emoluments Clause proceed - are both converging towards one end point. Both demonstrate the degree to which Trump places his personal interests before those of the American people, and both may shed light on that wretched reality in much more detail in coming days than Trump ever bargained for.

Thursday morning, multiple news reports tell us that Trump's allies view future disclosures from Cohen - who released audio showing Trump was aware of a hush-money scheme to quiet an alleged mistress before the election - as a serious threat to his presidency. Meanwhile, the judge's ruling this week means the court battle over whether Trump is violating the Constitution with his business profits shifts into a new phase that could bring more revelations.

In that ruling, a federal judge denied Trump's motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought by the attorneys general of Maryland and Washington, D.C., which alleges that Trump, whose businesses are regularly patronized by foreign officials, is violating the Constitution's ban on officials accepting emoluments from foreign governments (and state governments). The court rejected Trump's effort to define "emoluments" very narrowly, and instead accepted the plaintiffs' argument that they constitute "profit," "gain," or "advantage," i.e., the sort of profits that go to Trump's businesses. This means the case now moves forward to determine whether Trump reaped such profit, gain, or advantage from foreign governments.

In an interview with me, Noah Bookbinder, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which is involved in the lawsuit, laid out the next steps: D.C. and Maryland will now seek discovery access to the financial records of Trump's businesses - in particular, the hotel he owns in D.C. "We're going to seek records to show what benefits and payments the president got, and that's going to include extensive business and financial records," Bookbinder said.

It's possible Trump could block the discovery process, through an unusual appeal or other means. But if he fails, Bookbinder says, the discovery process could "prove that the president has been receiving payments," demonstrating this in a new level of detail documenting "foreign officials staying at the Trump hotel," which could in turn show that "the president is violating the Constitution."

The goal is to get the court to flatly declare that in accepting these payments, Trump is violating the Constitution, and even better, for the court to order Trump to stop. For instance, Trump might have to divest from his businesses (which he has refused to do), or his hotel might have to stop accepting forms of business that constitute the violation, among other possibilities. The case would probably go to the Supreme Court, and it's possible the plaintiffs could lose or only gain a partial victory, in which the courts declare that Trump is violating the Constitution without ordering an end to it. Another possibility, of course, is that Trump defies a court order to stop, which would precipitate a crisis
