Trump's G7 performance shows how he's living in a totally different reality and isolating the US from the rest of the world

It's not unusual for President Donald Trump to spread falsehoods. But his performance at the G7 summit over the weekend shows that when it comes to his standing on the global stage, Trump lives in a different reality.

Throughout the weekend, Trump made a number of misleading claims about key issues and his relationships with other world leaders. His actions also show how the US is becoming increasingly isolated from the rest of the developed world.

Trump claimed his trade war with China is popular within the G7 (it's not), he touted the overall state of the US economy (experts warn it could be headed toward recession), and he said other G7 members support his call to invite Russia back into the alliance (they don't).

He also supported North Korea over South Korea, gushed about France's handling of the summit even as his own aides privately fumed about it, and skipped a critical meeting to address climate change and the Amazon wildfires.

He confuses the way he thinks he is treated with the well-being of the country.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/25/opinion/donald-trump.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage

For Donald Trump, all is personal.

And in his view, he is not the executive of the company. He is the embodiment of the country. He runs the country the way he ran his business, as the curating and promotion of his personal brand.

The people who support him are customers — people to be sold a vision and a dream. The people who criticize or oppose him threaten the brand and must be dealt with.

For Trump, everything is image-based and rooted in the appearance of personal relationships. When the Danish prime minister rebuffed his overture about buying Greenland, calling the idea “absurd,” Trump threw a tantrum and canceled his visit to Denmark.

Trump discussed the episode at one of his press gaggles, calling the prime minister’s response “nasty’ and saying, “We can’t treat the United States of America the way they treated us under President Obama.” He went on to say: “She’s not talking to me. She’s talking to the United States of America. You don’t talk to the United States that way, at least under me.”

No, actually, she was talking to him.

America was not being dismissed or disrespected. This proposal, which sounded like a joke, was being laughed at. And this president hates being laughed at.

Everything in Trump’s view is about whether someone is nice or nasty to him. It’s not about the country at all. It’s not about historical precedent or value of continuity.

His dislike of his predecessors — Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and even Jimmy Carter — is personal, not rooted in policy. He has a particular obsession with Obama, and has set about to undo everything Obama had done.

It’s petty and small and beneath the presidency, much like Trump himself.

racial tirade over parking

After returning to their vehicle in the parking lot, Xu saw someone's bumper was touching hers and waited to confront the driver of the other car

The video starts with Waldman insulting Xu while walking back to her car

'We don't want you here because you can't drive,' Waldman paradoxically tells Xu before using her tongue and lips to blow a raspberry.

Xu pans the camera to Waldman's front bumper, which is seen extended over her parking space's marker and touching Xu's vehicle.

'You see? You crossed the line,' Xu tells Waldman.

'I crossed the line!' Waldman replies in a mocking high-pitched voice.

'You don't know a damn thing. Go back to China where you belong, you f*cking a**hole,' she continues.

Waldman also calls Xu a, 'Chinky, chinky, China lady,' during the video.

'You know what? You give these people a bad name here. We hate you people. Go back where you belong. F*ck you, you f*cking c*nt!' she adds before finally getting into her car and starting to drive away.

Xu declines to respond on camera to Waldman's bigoted barrage, telling a reporter she instead opted to tend to her startled child.

new poll finds major shift in values away from patriotism, religion and having kids

Those changes come amid a stark generational divide over which values are seen as most important.

Among those who are either Millennials or Generation Z (ages 18-38), only 42 percent rate patriotism as a “very important” value, while 79 percent of those over 55 say the same.

Just 30 percent of the younger group cite religion or belief in God as very important, while 67 percent of the older group does.

And just 32 percent of those under 38 years old call having children very important, while 54 percent of those over 55 agree.

“There is an emerging America where issues like children, religion, and patriotism are far less important,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies. “And in America, it’s the emerging generation that calls the shots about where the country’s headed.”

BREAKING: days after a LA sheriff deputy claimed he got shot by a sniper. he lied.

They surrounded a nearby apartment building and turned it upside down, searching it apt. by apt. Making the residents leave. blocking off the area, looking for the sniper. The neighborhood was subjected to a massive manhunt. some talk show radio hosts claimed that cops were under attack.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-08-24/sheriffs-deputy-admits-he-was-never-shot-at-by-sniper-in-lancaster-authorities-said

The dramatic twist in the case came after days of fruitless searches for a gunman who authorities believed had shot the deputy. The incident prompted a massive police response and manhunt, with much of the focus on an apartment building next to the station.

“The reported sniper assault was fabricated by our deputy,” Assistant Sheriff Robin Limon said at an unusual 11 p.m. news conference at the department’s downtown Los Angeles headquarters.

Deputy Angel Reinosa claimed he was struck in the chest about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday as he walked to his car in the employee parking lot at the sheriff’s Lancaster station, authorities said. At the time, investigators believed Reinosa’s bulletproof vest had saved his life but that a bullet had grazed his shoulder.

But much of the deputy’s statement “was self-serving and didn’t make a whole lot of sense,” said Sheriff’s Capt. Kent Wegener. No bullets were recovered from the scene.

“There were many things that didn’t add up,” Wegener said.

Though Reinosa was initially taken to a hospital for treatment, detectives said they later saw “no visible injuries,” Wegener said.

Reinosa eventually admitted “he was not shot as previously claimed,” Wegener said. The deputy said he used a knife to cut the two holes in his shirt.

On Sunday morning, this message was posted on the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lancaster station’s website about Reinosa’s admission:

“Angry. Embarrassed. Furious. Unbelievable. Ashamed,” the statement said. “These are some of the words circulating our station’s hallways since last night as our deputies try to wrap their minds around last night’s press conference surrounding the incident that occurred in our parking lot on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.

“Our deputies responded to a cry for help and did exactly what they have been trained to do to protect our civilian staff, residents and community. Our community and other first responder partners worked side by side with us to move quickly, effectively and efficiently. There is no shame in that.

“We are saddened by the outcome of the investigation, but are so grateful to our community for their cooperation on Wednesday and your ongoing support everyday. The actions of one individual are not indicative of who Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Deputies are.”

Candidate Says City in Michigan Should Be Kept White 'As Much as Possible' and no foreign people

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/08/24/marysville-council-candidate-jean-cramer-makes-racist-comments-again/2109750001/

MARYSVILLE, Mich. – Marysville City Council candidate Jean Cramer said she doesn’t have any plans to back out of the race despite coming under fire for racist comments she made at an election forum Thursday night.

Mayor Dan Damman and other local leaders, however, have called for her withdrawal.

“I would say that I probably came to the conclusion this morning,” he said Friday. “After the initial shock of what she said really sank in and (given) the deep-seated viewpoints that she has, I don’t believe that she is fit to serve as an elected official in Marysville or anywhere else.”

Cramer, one of five residents vying for three council seats in November’s election, responded to a question at a city candidates’ forum about attracting foreign-born residents to the community with: “Keep Marysville a white community as much as possible.”

After the forum, she expanded on her beliefs, particularly that people of different races shouldn’t get married.

Candidate Says City in Michigan Should Be Kept White ‘As Much as Possible’

Jean Cramer, who is running for City Council in Marysville, Mich., added, “No foreign people.”

Jean Cramer, a candidate, went first and unabashedly shared her view: “Keep Marysville a white community as much as possible.”

Amid audible gasps from fellow candidates, Ms. Cramer followed up her statement. “Seriously,” she said. “In other words, no foreign-born. No foreign people.”

Her comments not only stunned the other candidates, including one who put her hand to her mouth in shock, but they also gained widespread attention.

Marysville is about 55 miles northeast of Detroit and has a population of 9,706, about 95 percent of it white, according to census figures.

After the forum, Ms. Cramer expanded on her views to The Times Herald and said that Ms. Hayman’s family was “in the wrong” because it was multiracial.

“Husband and wife need to be the same race,” Ms. Cramer told the paper. “Same thing with the kids. That’s how it’s been from the beginning of, how can I say, when God created the heaven and the earth. He created Adam and Eve at the same time. But as far as me being against blacks, no I’m not.”

Ms. Cramer told The Times Herald on Friday that she would not have an issue if a black couple moved next door to her. “What is the issue is the biracial marriages, that’s the big problem,” Ms. Cramer said. “And there are a lot of people who don’t know it’s in the Bible and so they’re going outside of that.”

Ms. Cramer was asked if she understood why her comments could upset her neighbors. “If there is the biracial marriage in the family, yes,” she said.
