As Dixie fire tears through communities, some refuse evacuation orders with guns in hand

Firefighters were working Friday to protect homes around Lake Almanor, where fire had reached the western shore but had not yet burned to the peninsula, they said.

No deaths have been reported so far in the Dixie fire, but some residents are taking risks that alarm authorities. Law enforcement has issued evacuation orders for thousands of residents whose communities were under siege, yet some are choosing to stay behind, posing more challenges.

Greg Hagwood, a Plumas County supervisor, said that in the last 72 hours, as fire has swept through or threatened small mountain towns including Greenville, the evacuations have grown tense — in some cases, residents have met law enforcement with weapons.

“They are met with people who have guns and (are) saying, ‘Get off my property and you are not telling me to leave,’” he said.

In response to those who flatly refused to evacuate, he said, deputies were asking for next-of-kin information so they would have someone to notify if the holdouts died.

Desperate Mom Facing Eviction Raises Over $230K After Hoping for $2K From GoFundMe Plea

Desperate Mom Facing Eviction Raises Over $230K After Hoping for $2K From GoFundMe Plea

A Las Vegas mother who was facing eviction has raised than $230,000 from a GoFundMe campaign asking for $2,000 after not receiving a single donation for a month.

------------

A month after the GoFundMe was published, CNN wrote an article about Kelly, prompting nearly 4,000 people to donate. She wrote in an update to the GoFundMe that she created the campaign out of desperation and that it was an honor to receive so much support.

She tried "almost everything" to earn income while taking care of her family before creating the campaign, she wrote.

"Thank you for all your overwhelming support, and kind words," she wrote. "We did not expect a reaction like this at all. This family is forever blessed."

She said her rent has been paid through the end of the lease, she can furnish her house, and they can afford to purchase a vehicle, allowing her to return to work. She is also opening a bank account for each of her daughters—who are five, six, and eight years old. They will receive new clothes, shoes and a few toys.

"Never would I ever want these girls to struggle and be judged like I did," she wrote.

She also wrote she would "pay it forward" by donating some of the money to charity, as well as supporting another family who is also in need.

anti-mask, anti-vax, anti BLM, pro "trump won" flutist is fired by the Baltimore orchestra

Flutist Who Shared Conspiracy Theories Is Out of a JobShrink

(NEWSER) – A flutist who courted controversy with online posts about everything from COVID to the 2020 election results is out of a job in Baltimore. The city's orchestra this week fired principal flutist Emily Skala, reports the Baltimore Sun. The move comes about six months after the orchestra publicly rebuked Skala for posts questioning the effectiveness of vaccines and masks, per the New York Times. She also shared a conspiracy theory that the virus originated in a lab in North Carolina and questioned the presidential election results, among other things. "Ms. Skala has had discipline imposed upon her over these past few months," says a statement from the orchestra. "Unfortunately, she has repeated the conduct for which she had been previously disciplined, and dismissal was the necessary and appropriate reaction to this behavior."

Skala, who'd been with the symphony for 33 years, told the Sun that "I've only ever wanted to state my truth," adding that "the BSO can expect to hear from me." The orchestra said the issues went beyond social media posts, and Skala says that likely is a reference to a visit she made last month to the orchestra's offices to hand in a tax form. She didn't have a mask or COVID tests results as required to enter, and she says she tried to open the door, but only to hand the form to a guard. Skala suggests that her politics is part of the problem, with colleagues unhappy with her support of former President Trump's allegations of election fraud and her criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement. "They just punish me for being me," she tells the Times.

A politician let 3 'doctors' wearing full PPE into her home to treat her sick husband.

A politician let 3 'doctors' wearing full PPE into her home to treat her sick husband. In fact, they were assassins who'd come to kill her.

Carolina Echeverría let three people into her home, as they were disguised as doctors.
She believed they had come to care for her husband, but they attacked him and shot her in the head.
No arrests have been made, and it is not clear what was the motive for the killing.

An assassination squad tricked a Honduras politician into letting them into her home before shooting her dead

Carolina Echeverría, a former presidential candidate who was running to win back her former seat assumed the visitors - dressed in full medical protective gear, including masks - were at her home to tend to her husband, who was infected with COVID-19.

The disguised trio - two men and a woman - shot Echeverría in the head, killing her. Her husband, former police chief Andrés Urtecho, tried to fight them off.

Texas man outruns cops and helicopters with Dodge Challenger Hellcat... then runs out of gas

If only the gas tank was bigger, this Hellcat could have pulled off one of the most successful getaways.
What would you do with one of the fastest production cars ever made? Well, Mohamed Ahmed Abu-Shlieba thought the Dodge Challenger Hellcat could outrun the cops. Not only was he right about the police cars not being able to keep up, thanks to the Hellcat’s top speed of 200-MPH, the helicopters couldn’t keep up either.

This guy tried to outrun the cops in a Challenger, and failed miserably!
The chase began on I-10 in the Houston area after police identified the Mopar as stolen. Traffic was fairly heavy at the time, but the Hellcat seemed to have no problems at all cutting through it and finding enough open road to walk out of birds-eye view. However, just as it seems that the Hellcat was gone, it was spotted on the side of the road just off the Winnie exit where it apparently ran out of gas. However, the driver was nowhere to be found.

One thing Abu-Shlieba simply could not account for though was the persistence of the now five different law enforcement agencies that were in pursuit of him. With the help of infrared technology, he was spotted hiding in a wooded area in the middle of a cow pasture. While it is unknown if he thought he was home-free or not, Abu-Shlieba was then spotted calmly sauntering out of the woods talking on his cell phone.

Texas Financial advisor Eileen Cure fired for 'refusing to interview black applicants'

Financial advisor fired for 'refusing to interview black applicants'

A Texas financial advisor has been fired after a TikTok star shamed her in a video for allegedly not wanting to interview black job applicants and is accused of saying it's a 'complete waste of my time.'

A purported leaked internal communication where Eileen Cure allegedly said, 'I specifically said no blacks' - meaning no black applicants - was given to TikToker Denise Bradly, whose 'aunkkaren0' account has over one million followers.

'I'm not a prejudice person, but our clients are 90 percent white, and I need to cater to them so that interview was a complete waste of my time,' Cure, president of the Texas-based Cure and Associates, is accused of saying.

Cure was an affiliated advisor for LPL Financial, which is the largest independent broker-dealer in the US. She was fired after the video surfaced.

The company said in a statement that it investigated the claims before making the decision to cut the strings.

The terminated financial advisor swung back in a statement to Investment News, saying the video was 'false and defamatory' and that she is exploring her legal options.

'The entirety of this situation is based upon a TikTok video published by an unrelated individual without press credentials or affiliations using an unauthenticated photo of an alleged internal office chat without validation or context of any content,' Cure told Investment News.

'This published photo and along with subsequent related false and defamatory materials and statements, which have incited false commentary and threats of violence and bodily harm toward me and my staff and acts which are being investigated as criminal in nature, are being publicized on a social media platform by a third party who is not related or in any way affiliated with me or my office.'

Cure's husband joined the PR war and reportedly threatened to kill the TikToker.

'Tell that Tiktoker to come down here to Texas, and I'll put her in a grave,' Cure's husband allegedly said, according to a Thursday tweet by 'auntkaren0.'

reporters asks female athlete stupid questions: "do you have plans for a womans life?",

An interviewer with Chinese state media called a gold-medal Olympian "a manly woman," the BBC said.

A Chinese state broadcaster was criticized for calling an Olympic gold medalist "a manly woman" and asking if she had a boyfriend in an interview, the BBC reported on Friday.

The BBC said a reporter with the state broadcaster CCTV spoke with Gong Lijiao after she won the women's shot-put final on Sunday.

The reporter told the audience that Gong "gave me the impression that she is a manly woman, until one breakthrough moment," the BBC reported.

The clip cut to an interview with Gong, where the reporter asked, "Do you have any plans for a woman's life?"

When Gong appeared confused, another reporter said, according to the BBC, "Since you used to be a manly woman for shot put, do you feel you can be yourself from now on?"

Gong replied: "Um ... maybe I'll look at my plans. If I don't train then perhaps I will lose weight, get married and have children. Yes, it's the path one must take in life."

The reporter asked Gong if she had a boyfriend, what kind of man she wanted, and whether she would arm-wrestle a boyfriend, according to the BBC.

The BBC reported that thousands of people complained about the questioning.
