Trump approval sinks 5 points after Mueller report, tying all-time low

Poll: Trump approval sinks 5 points after Mueller report, tying all-time low
Despite the slide to 39 percent, there is little support for using impeachment to remove the president.

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped 5 points, equaling his presidency’s low-water mark, since last week’s release of the special counsel report into the 2016 election, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.

Despite his sinking poll numbers, however, there is little support for removing Trump through the impeachment process, the poll shows.

Only 39 percent of voters surveyed in the new poll, which was conducted Friday through Sunday, approve of the job Trump is doing as president. That is down from 44 percent last week and ties Trump’s lowest-ever approval rating in POLITICO/Morning Consult polling — a 39 percent rating in mid-August 2017, in the wake of violence in Charlottesville, Va.

Nearly 6 in 10 voters, 57 percent, disapprove of the job Trump is doing.

But while views of Trump have tumbled since the publication of Robert Muller’s redacted report, so has support for impeaching him. Only 34 percent of voters believe Congress should begin impeachment proceedings to remove the president from office, down from 39 percent in January. Nearly half, 48 percent, say Congress should not begin impeachment proceedings.

Trump on today's Twitter rampage: NYT Needs to Get on Knees, Beg

https://www.newser.com/story/274259/trump-nyt-needs-to-get-on-knees-beg.html?utm_source=part&utm_medium=uol&utm_campaign=rss_world_img_b

– President Trump thinks the New York Times should "get down on their knees & beg for forgiveness." The comment came in a "Twitter rampage" attacking media outlets early Tuesday, per Fox News. Trump wrote that he was deserving of "a far bigger & better apology" than the paper offered in 2016—though bosses only admitted to underestimating support for Trump in the lead-up to the election—adding, "they are truly the Enemy of the People!" Trump went on to suggest he should be free from criticism considering the state of the economy. "In the 'old days' if you were President and you had a good economy, you were basically immune from criticism ... Today I have, as President, perhaps the greatest economy in historyand to the Mainstream Media, it means NOTHING," he wrote.

Trump also called out the "false and highly inaccurate writings" of Times columnist Paul Krugman, who blasted the president—"all indications are that he really is a racist"—and GOP—"no longer believes in American values"—in a Monday op-ed. "He is obsessed with hatred, just as others are obsessed with how stupid he is. He said Market would crash, Only Record Highs!" Trump wrote. "The Radical Left Democrats, together with their leaders in the Fake News Media, have gone totally insane! I guess that means that the Republican agenda is working. Stay tuned for more!" Trump added. The president also attacked CNN's Chris Cuomo and MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, while praising Fox & Friends. Later Tuesday, he's to honor White House News Photographers Association award winners in the Oval Office, per Politico. (Trump accuses Democrats of abusing their power.)

Shen Yun season

https://www.businessinsider.com/shen-yun-show-falun-gong-2019-3

Shen Yun posters are everywhere — here's everything you need to know about the mysterious show and the 'cult' behind it

Posters for Shen Yun are so ubiquitous that they've become a meme. But what is it, anyway?

The show, organized by Chinese religious minority Falun Gong which is opposed to the Chinese government, carries a strong political message.

It's shockingly profitable, according to public financial filings. The Shen Yun organization made $22.5 million in 2016.

Falun Gong is controversial for its bigoted beliefs, and is also harshly persecuted within China.

Shen Yun is a way Falun Gong communicates the story of its persecution.

https://www.chron.com/entertainment/article/shen-yun-cult-falun-gong-china-ads-show-reviews-13484697.php

You've seen the ads. But what's the deal with Shen Yun?

Unless you live under a rock, you've probably seen a billboard or heard dozens of ads for Shen Yun Performing Arts.

But what is it? The answer is a little complicated.

----
Some people who go to the show complain they didn't know what they were in for. Because nowhere in the effusive advertisements is it mentioned that Shen Yun has a political bent. Shen Yun translates to "divine rhythm," and according to the show's website, the artists who put on Shen Yun practice Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, a belief system that encompasses meditation, tai chi-type exercises, and "strict morality" (smoking, alcohol, and extramarital or same-sex sexual relations go against the teachings).

A 2017 Guardian article by Nicholas Hune-Brown describes one part of the show:

The curtain rose on a group of young students sitting in peace, meditating and reading oversized yellow Falun Gong books. The dancers performed elaborately pantomimed good deeds – helping an old woman with a cane, chasing down a woman who had dropped her purse. But when one unveiled a Falun Gong banner, suddenly a trio of men wearing black tunics emblazoned with a red hammer-and-sickle entered. The communist thugs began beating people up, clubbing and kicking innocent Falun Gong followers.

Scenes like that didn't sit well with all viewers.

The Fresno Bee's arts writer Donald Munro saw Shen Yun in 2016, and called the show "a beautiful and odd production that veers wildly between two extremes: delicate artistic excellence on one hand and a brusque, heavy-handed effort to inculcate political and spiritual viewpoints on the other."

Many people posting reviews on Yelp weren't as eloquent.

"Be warned: Religious sermon!" reads a Yelp review from someone who saw the show in Fresno. "I WALKED OUT as soon as anti-evolution statements were made on the screen. False advertising!"

"I rate this a Zero star. This show is purely CULT PROPAGANDA. Do not waste your money and time for this," said Ron F. from Pittsburg, Calif.

Trump's latest pick: Stephen Moore "was any area in life "where men can take vacation from women."

One of President Donald Trump's picks to serve on the Federal Reserve Board has written that women should be banned from refereeing, announcing or beer vending at men's college basketball games, asking if there was any area in life "where men can take vacation from women."

Stephen Moore, an economic commentator and former Trump campaign adviser, made those and similar comments in several columns reviewed by CNN's KFile that were published on the website of the conservative National Review magazine in 2001, twice in 2002 and 2003.

In a 2000 column, Moore complained about his wife voting for Democrats, writing, "Women are sooo malleable! No wonder there's a gender gap." In another column in 2000, Moore criticized female athletes advocating for pay equality, writing that they wanted "equal pay for inferior work."

Moore, who subsequently worked as a Wall Street Journal editorial board member, was at the time the president of the Club for Growth, a conservative political organization. He was a CNN contributor from 2017 until last month.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/22/politics/stephen-moore-federal-reserve-kfile/index.html

In one of his 2002 columns, Moore suggested changes to March Madness tournament to get rid of "un-American" aspects of it. The first rule proposed by Moore was "no women."

"Here's the rule change I propose: No more women refs, no women announcers, no women beer venders, no women anything," he wrote in March 2002. "There is, of course, an exception to this rule. Women are permitted to participate, if and only if, they look like Bonnie Bernstein. The fact that Bonnie knows nothing about basketball is entirely irrelevant." He later wrote that Bernstein, a CBS sports journalist at the time, should wear halter tops.

Earlier the column, Moore expressed disgust at a woman refereeing an NCAA game.
"How outrageous is this? This year they allowed a woman ref a men's NCAA game. Liberals celebrate this breakthrough as a triumph for gender equity," Moore wrote. "The NCAA has been touting this as example of how progressive they are. I see it as an obscenity. Is there no area in life where men can take vacation from women? What's next? Women invited to bachelor parties? Women in combat? (Oh yeah, they've done that already.) Why can't women ref he women's games and men the men's games. I can't wait to see the first lady ref have a run in with Bobby Knight."

Moore wrote that this was part of the "bigger and more serious social problem in America" which was "the feminization of basketball generally." Moore added he didn't care about watching women's basketball and he was upset games were shown on ESPN.

KS homeowners allow easement for upgraded power poles in their yards. shocked by HUGE metal towers

WICHITA — Pained words of Pastor William Vann inside Iasis Christian Center competed against industrial clamor of electric transmission line crews operating heavy trucks in the front yard.

Timing of the mid-April intrusion was ironic, because Vann was in a meeting with a Wichita City Council member, a Kansas House member, several local residents and a reporter to discuss the controversial power-pole modernization project initiated by Westar Energy — now known as Evergy — in a low-income residential neighborhood of northeast Wichita.

The church stands amid dozens of metal transmission poles that soar 105 feet above the ground, dwarfing wood poles typical of older neighborhoods without buried lines. Size and location of the double-deck poles fueled anger among residents convinced such giants would never be deployed in an affluent part of the city. Some were planted in front yards a stone’s throw from entrance doors.

Vann wasn’t alone in accusing Westar of engaging in a bait-and-switch approach to placing the poles on private property. He agreed to a new pole in front of the church, but was unaware of actual dimensions. He was recently informed Westar intended to add a transformer in the easement next to the street.

“I was approached ... a year and a half ago about Westar buying some easement of our church property in order to upgrade the power grid,” Vann said. “They did tell me it would be a silver pole. I was not aware how tall it would be or that they would actually bring two more poles along with it. Now, in my 150-foot span of property, I have one, two, three, four, five — five poles out there, because they haven’t taken the old ones down either.”

---------------------

And, Finney said, the influx of massive transmission poles were directly responsible for falling residential property values.

“The chances are, if you were to have an opportunity to buy a house, you probably wouldn’t want to buy a house with a 105-foot pole in your yard,” the state legislator said. “As far as property values, recently our appraisal values came out from the county. My property is 5 blocks over and my house is only 9 years old. It went down $5,000 since last year.”
-------------------

Westar representatives had moved through the neighborhood a couple years ago buying easements. They apparently paid a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand dollars to homeowners.

“They actually gave me a little piece of money for a wooden pole,” said Abdul-Raheem, a resident and child care provider. “The next thing I know, I have one of these big, huge things on the property. It looked like a monster. When I open my curtain in the morning, that’s the first thing that I see. I didn’t even want to work in my flower bed this morning.”

https://www.cjonline.com/news/20190421/capitol-insider-podcast-mega-utility-poles-lightning-rod-of-controversy-in-wichita-neighborhood

https://www.kansas.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/carrie-rengers/article217919675.html

Westar Energy said Monday it would pay more to compensate homeowners upset about larger electrical poles, or even buy their homes, in northeast Wichita.

UPDATED — Westar Energy is upgrading a transmission line that connects three substations in northeast Wichita, but residents aren’t looking at new electric poles as an improvement.

“People are very disturbed about this,” says state Rep. Gail Finney.

Wichita City Council member Brandon Johnson organized a meeting with Westar representatives, area residents and community leaders on Thursday.

“It got very intense,” Finney says.

She says issues include “monumental towers that are in people’s yard,” lost home value, improper compensation and a lack of transparency.

------

Retiree Phyllis Peete, who lives near 21st and Piatt, says she and a neighbor were driving down the street when she first saw the poles.

“I said, ‘What is this?’ I thought it was horrible. They were so big, and they’re just blocking everything.”

That’s not her only frustration, Peete says.

“I hadn’t hear anything about it. That’s what gets me.”

San Luis Obispo city worker placed on leave after video of him knocking out a woman surfaces

Chavez, a special education teacher in Santa Maria, said that Olcott repeatedly bumped into her and her friend Isaac McCormac at the bar and was "territorial" of his space.

In the video, Olcott, who is wearing a grey shirt, can be seen talking to a group of people while McCormac, who is wearing a red hat, is seated behind him. Chavez can be seen standing behind McCormac with her arms around his shoulders.

There are multiple instances in the video where Olcott bumps into McCormac and Chavez, and then directs an angry gaze back at them.

At around the 50-second mark, Olcott gets bumped back by Chavez, and proceeds to elbow her in the face, knocking her to the ground.

"I don't know what triggered the event," Chavez told the San Luis Obispo Tribune. "I have no idea what prompted it. He was territorial over this space. There was room in front of him, but he was not willing to give up that space."

Olcott then begins punching McCormac repeatedly before being subdued by staff at the bar.

Chavez said she was unconscious for over a minute, and missed multiple days of work due to dizziness after the incident.

Summer Grant, 30, said her daughters - fourth grader Summara and second grader Summaia - attended the Chapel Hill Christian Schools for years
Her 10-year-old and seven-year-old daughters were dismissed from the Cuyahoga Falls location last Friday, with just 30 days left in the school year

Grant recorded a conversation she had with pastor John Wilson, who explained she was violating the school's covenant by having children with different fathers

'There's 10 commandments and committing adultery is not part of that,' Pastor Wilson can be heard saying in footage
He added: 'It's not that they should not go to the school it's that they can't go to the school'

Wilson allegedly asked her why her kids had three different fathers during a July conference

Pastor Wilson released a statement saying parents sign 'written agreement to conduct themselves in accordance with expressed guidelines of conducts'

But the mother asserts that she never signed an agreement and just wants her daughters to be able to finish the school year
