Coke, American Air, MGM: Big companies unleash pink slips as coronavirus reshapes global economy

Thousands of workers are poised to join the ranks of the unemployed, as ongoing turmoil from the coronavirus pandemic prompted Corporate America to unleash a wave of pink slips this week —adding to an already staggering number of people without jobs.

As Congress and the White House are locked in a stalemate over a fresh round of economic stimulus — which includes a highly coveted $600 unemployment bonus that’s helped prop up consumer spending — a range of big companies are moving to shave headcount.

The timing could hardly be worse, given that the fate of a fiscal boost is uncertain, and the ranks of the jobless remain swelled with tens of millions of people.

A phony economy attended the Republican convention

Obama-Biden: Terrible

Trump-Pence: Remarkable

This is the version of economic history you heard if you tuned into the Republican convention this week. President Trump and many other speakers assailed the dark ages of the Obama-Biden administration, when nobody had a job and children were starving everywhere. Then Trump became president and everybody got rich. Would voters really want to give Joe Biden, now Trump’s Democratic opponent in the presidential race, another chance to bankrupt everybody?

This fanciful narrative is supposed to make voters think there have been major differences between the Obama and the Trump economies. In reality, trends underway during Obama’s second term largely continued during Trump’s first three years. The coronavirus crisis that erupted in March put an abrupt end to that, of course, and voters will decide if Trump should be punished for soaring unemployment. But there was no Trump economic miracle before that...

They want to defund the police too

They refuse to give state and local governments any aid as their budgets went bust during the pandemic.

If they cared about police as much as they claim, they would give state and local governments aid so they can afford to keep their precious angelic police forces.

McConnell inexplicably claims that Democrats want to tell Americans 'how many hamburgers you can eat

I guess you say this when you have nothing!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) asked Americans to "support Republican Senate candidates across the country and re-elect my friend, President Donald Trump" during the Republican National Convention on Thursday night — including making an ominous (and false) threat that Democrats are prepared to take away your hamburgers if you don't.

Florida Supreme Court says DeSantis exceeded his authority in naming new justice

In a stunning rebuke to Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday said the governor exceeded his authority when he appointed Renatha Francis to the high court by selecting the Palm Beach judge to the post before she was eligible but also said, as of now, nothing will change.

In a 5-0 ruling, the court agreed with Democratic state Rep. Geraldine Thompson, who filed the lawsuit claiming that the governor’s appointment of Francis in May was unlawful because Francis had not been a member of The Florida Bar for 10 years as required by the Florida Constitution.

“In a nutshell, when a governor fills by appointment a vacant judicial office, the appointee must be constitutionally eligible for that office at the time of the appointment,’’ wrote Justice Carlos G. Muñiz, himself a DeSantis appointee to the court, who authored the opinion.

DNC 2020 vs RNC 2020

DNC 2020

Regular people/Families: We're hopeful! We're down but we're not out!
Biden/Harris: We're going to restore the country. We've down the wrong path but there's light at the end of the tunnel.
Biden talking to voters: what problems are you facing? How can I help you once I'm elected?

RNC 2020

Everybody: FUCK THE OTHER SIDE!

How exactly do they get away with bashing government and praising government AT THE SAME TIME???

Social security should be privatized because government can't do shit right
Postal service should be privatized because government can't do shit right
Food stamps should go away because government can't do shit right
Taxes should be lowered because government can't do shit right

The government is intrusive and butting into people's lives where government should not be. Government should not be in your neighborhoods, in your businesses, or in your bedrooms!

BUT COPS ARE AMAZING! We're for law and order! There should be more cops!

Law and Order my ass!

When they’re not in power, elect them to restore law and order.

When they’re in power, re-elect them to restore law and order.

When they’re in power, re-elect them to prevent the disorder that took place while they had power.

Re-elect them to prevent the very “riots” that happened while they had power.

Re-elect them to prevent the crime and shootings that has risen while they had power.

Law and order my ass!

Trump officials pressured CDC to change virus testing guidelines

Top Trump administration officials involved with the White House coronavirus task force ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Protection to stop promoting coronavirus testing for most people who have been exposed to the virus but aren't showing symptoms, according to two people with knowledge of the process.
Federal testing czar Brett Giroir denied those allegations Wednesday, telling reporters that the CDC ultimately decided to narrow the recommendations for who should be tested.
