GOP Rep. Bob Good says McCarthy opponents will "never cave" & he will vote for Jordan on next ballot

https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/new-congress-sworn-in-2023/h_bf3e88b9bc6a362de56133b113e98902

Rep. Kevin McCarthy critic GOP Rep. Bob Good said he thought his allies would get 10-15 "no" votes against McCarthy on the first ballot and was pleased to get 19.

He said he expects more "no" votes on the second ballot.

“He is never going to be speaker. We will never cave. We will never vote for him. The sooner he pulls out, for the good of the country, for the good of the Congress, for the good of the conference, the better everyone it is and we can move together to find who the best person is who can get 218,” he told reporters off the House floor.

He said he will vote for Rep. Jim Jordan on the next ballot and expects Jordan and others to get more votes going forward.

One People Oration at Westminster Abbey: Ethical Leadership - Human Rights at the Heart of Response

The One People Oration is a lecture given each year at Westminster Abbey. The intention of the series is to make people 'think not only of all Christian people but of all mankind'.

This year's Oration is given by Nada Al-Nashif, and is chaired by the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, Dean of Westminster. Ms Al-Nashif took up the position of UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2020 after almost 30 years of experience within the United Nations system around the world.

The orations commenced in 1966, the 900th anniversary year of the consecration and dedication of Edward the Confessor's original church. The phrase ‘One People’ was coined by Edward Carpenter (then Archdeacon, later Dean of Westminster) in 1965-1966.
