https://www.thedailybeast.com/russia-threatens-vaccine-sabotage-blackmail-and-spy-boost-after-biden-calls-putin-a-killer
The Kremlin was unquestionably furious about President Joe Bidens Wednesday interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. In contrast to former President Donald Trumps outright refusal to condemn the Russian leader for any of his actions, when Biden was asked whether he thought Russian President Vladimir Putin was a killer, he succinctly replied, Mmm-hmm, I do. On Thursday, Putin appeared rattled and irritated as he personally addressed Bidens remarks during a video call with residents of Crimea marking the anniversary of its annexation from Ukraine by Russia in 2014. Angrily glaring into the lens of the camera, Putin forced a smile and said of Biden, I wish him good health. The loaded response could be read as an implied threat, but it most likely refers to ongoing efforts by Kremlin-controlled state media to portray the American president as a hapless elder suffering from dementia.
To achieve this desired impression, Russian state media often airs clips of Fox News Tucker Carlson assailing the mental capabilities of the U.S. leader. The campaign to portray President Biden as mentally unfit started well before he was elected, and on that frontand on many othersRussian propaganda narratives seamlessly blended with those of Fox News. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday that "there hasn't been anything like this in history" and described the U.S. presidents statements as very bad. On the same day the ABC interview aired, Russia recalled its U.S. ambassador, Anatoly Antonov, for consultations about relations with the United States. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that relations between Moscow and Washington have been going through hard times, blaming the U.S. for bringing them to a dead end.
Putin didnt even bother denying Bidens killer accusation during his Thursday appearance on Russian state TV. Instead, the Russian president retorted with a commentary that roughly translates to It takes one to know one. In fact, there is little doubt that Putin bears responsibility for bloodshed abroad; in Ukraine, Georgia, and Syria, and against his own citizens living on foreign soil. Putin was accused of ordering the attempted assassination of his most vocal and effective domestic rival, Alexei Navalny, by a military-grade nerve agent Novichok last year. Putins government has also been linked to the 2018 poisoning of the former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in England, and the shooting of a former commander of Chechen separatists in Berlin in 2019. Notably, in 2006, Putin signed a law legalizing targeted killings of extremists abroad. This Wednesday, the U.S. imposed additional sanctions against Russia for using chemical weapons against dissidents.
Most Russian lawmakers, pundits, and state media experts didnt even attempt to argue against Bidens perception of President Putin as a killer. They merely recoiled at the unthinkable idea of openly criticizing Putin, which is not only a taboo in the Motherland, but dangerous. You can think whatever you want, you just dont say it out loud, argued politician Sergey Stankevich, appearing on The Evening with Vladimir Soloviev. Vladimir Soloviev, the host of the show, grimly surmised the meaning of the U.S. presidents statements: This is a declaration of the New Cold War. Of course, we will respondand we will respond very harshly. He let it slip because he is an elderly person. Perhaps he doesnt realize that the American president shouldnt be saying these kinds of things out loud, suggested Russian lawmaker Oleg Morozov.

Russia Threatens Vax Sabotage, Blackmail & Spy Boost After Biden Calls Putin a 'Killer'

The French capital is set to go into a month-long Covid lockdown as the country fears a third wave. Some 21 million people in 16 areas of France will be placed under the measures from midnight on Friday. These measures will not be as strict as the previous lockdown, Prime Minister Jean Castex said, with people allowed to exercise outdoors.
France has recorded more than 35,000 new infections within the past 24 hours. Mr Castex said a "third wave" of infections in the country was looking increasingly likely. The situation in Paris is particularly worrying with 1,200 people in intensive care there, more than at the peak of the second wave in November, Health Minister Olivier Véran said.
Under the new measures, non-essential businesses will be forced to close, but schools will remain open, along with hairdressers if they follow a "particular sanitary protocol". Government spokesman Gabriel Attal stressed there would be differences with the two earlier lockdowns and said further details would be given of which business could stay open or would have to shut.
People will be allowed to exercise outdoors within 10km (6 miles) of their home and are not allowed to travel to other parts of the country unless they have a valid reason. Those in the affected areas will have to fill out a form to explain why they have left their homes.

https://thebanter.substack.com/p/trumps-lies-about-china-are-having
WASHINGTON, DC -- In the course of a single day this week, the treachery of Donald Trump was perfectly and tragically illustrated, even after being exiled to Mar-a-lago nearly 60 days ago. Seldom have we observed the consequences of Trumps lies and demagoguery so clearly as what happened on Tuesday, March 16. It began with the publishing of a report culled from the entire U.S. intelligence community and released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). The documents main purpose was to confirm that Russia continued its online influence attack against the United States throughout the 2020 election, repeating most of the active measures deployed in 2016, proving without a doubt that Donald Trump failed to do anything to stop the attacks. And why would he? The point, once again, was to help Trump get re-elected. The report also indicated that American officials were duped by familiar pro-Putin agents like Konstantin Kilimnik: [Kilimnik and] associates sought to use prominent US persons and media conduits to launder their narratives to US officials and audiences. Its fair to assume these US persons included Rudy Giuliani and Fox News Channel, among many others. You might also recall that Kilimnik was heavily involved in the 2016 attack while in contact with Paul Manafort -- Kilimnik was, indeed, Manaforts man in Kyiv and served as a fixer between the Trump campaign and Oleg Derapaska, an oligarch with close ties to Putin. Its also worth noting that Trump pardoned Manafort for his part in the Trump-Russia affair. Along those lines:
A key element of Moscow's strategy this election cycle was its use of proxies linked to Russian intelligence to push influence narratives-including misleading or unsubstantiated allegations against President Biden-to US media organizations, US officials, and prominent US individuals, including some close to former President Trump and his administration. While the report doesnt specifically mention Hunter Bidens laptop, it certainly included mentions of phishing attacks against Burisma, the energy company that employed Hunter on its board. I wonder why Russia was interested in Burisma while simultaneously engaged in an attack that was intended to hurt Joe Biden. Likewise, the report shows that, contrary to what Trump said during the election, China did not engage in similar influence campaigns during the election. Repeat: did not. But that didnt stop Trump and his henchmen from suggesting throughout the 2020 campaign that China was rigging the election for Biden. Bill Barr told CNNs Wolf Blitzer that China was helping Biden win. John Ratcliffe, Trumps Director of National Intelligence, said in August, I cant get into a whole lot of details, other than to say that China is using a massive and sophisticated influence campaign that dwarfs anything that any other country is doing. That was a whopper lie, obviously. Same goes for Trumps National Security Adviser, Robert OBrien, who said, China, like Russia, like Iran theyve engaged in cyberattacks and phishing and that sort of thing with respect to our election infrastructure, with respect to websites. Another lie. Even Christopher Wray, the FBI Director appointed to replace Jim Comey, said, China is engaged in a highly sophisticated malign foreign influence campaign, and its methods include bribery, blackmail, and covert deals. As far back as 2018, Trump told the UN: We learned that [China is] trying to meddle in our elections and were not going to let that happen
Meanwhile, there was COVID. For the better part of a year, Trump blamed China for the pandemic in order to distract from the reality that he himself failed to protect the American people from the virus by taking responsible steps to contain it. Instead, Trump reopened the economy at the initial height of the infection curve and proceeded to downplay the threat. Even more insidiously, Trump began to call it the China Virus, a nickname that hasnt quite caught on outside of the Red Hat cult, but which goes a long way toward radicalizing the violent, racist extremists who compose much of Trumps fanbase. It should come as no surprise, then, why a gunman murdered eight Asian-Americans in Atlanta on Tuesday. It should come as no surprise why Trumps terrorist disciples are routinely attacking Asian-Americans across the country. The ex-president is almost exclusively responsible for instigating not just the hate crimes against Asian-Americans, but at least several insurrections including the invasion of various state government buildings last Spring and, naturally, the invasion and occupation of the U.S. Capitol in January. Fox News and the Red Hat entertainment complex is also responsible since it amplifies all of Trumps inciting blurts. And, once again, these bigoted assailants are acting on Trumps lies, much like various Republican state governments that are actively passing new election laws that disenfranchise voters based on Trumps conspiracy theories. We might be done with Trump, but Trump isnt done with us -- and Americans are still dying due to his recklessness, irresponsibility, insecurity, and vile racism.
One last thing about the ODNI report. Its as much a damning indictment of Russia, Iran, and other foreign governments, as it is a tragic statement about many Americans as well. The overseas active measures wouldnt exist if Americans werent seen as utterly ripe for the deception. Our enemies see our fellow citizens as gullible dupes -- easily deceived suckers who are incapable of digesting the glut of information on social media and elsewhere. And theyre not wrong. These kinds of cyber-attacks will surely continue, and perhaps become more sophisticated over time, as long as so many of us suck down the propaganda like water. I wish I had a simple solution for you but there isnt one. A solid half of us continue to bungle our way into full-blown idiocracy, and telling the idiocrats that they need to wise up will only make them further entrench in their Q-cultivated slagpiles of nonsensical conspiracy theories and racist Tucker Carlson memes. In the meantime, we can petition our government to further regulate social media to make sure its less fertile ground for hostile intelligence agencies and, regarding the anti-Asian hate crimes, a slate of expanded gun control laws are long past due. And, of course, it cant hurt to make sure Trump himself isnt still at-large. As I said, theres no simple solution but the urgency of the crisis mandates we do something. Like, now.

Trump's Lies About China Are Having Deadly Consequences For Asian-Americans

One of the most powerful Democrats in Washington has issued a frank warning to members of his own party, saying they need to find a way to pass major voting rights legislation or they will lose control of Congress.
The comments from Jim Clyburn, the House majority whip, came days after the House of Representatives approved a sweeping voting rights bill that would enact some of the most dramatic expansions of the right to vote since the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Even though Democrats also control the US Senate, the bill is unlikely to pass the chamber because of a procedural rule, the filibuster, that requires 60 votes to advance legislation.
In an interview with the Guardian this week, Clyburn called out two moderate Democratic senators, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, who have opposed getting rid of the filibuster. Republicans across the country are advancing sweeping measures to curtail voting rights and letting expansive voting rights legislation die would harm Democrats, Clyburn said.
Theres no way under the sun that in 2021 that we are going to allow the filibuster to be used to deny voting rights. That just aint gonna happen. That would be catastrophic, he said. If Manchin and Sinema enjoy being in the majority, they had better figure out a way to get around the filibuster when it comes to voting and civil rights.

LAKE COUNTY (CBSMiami) A Florida man is charged with murdering his 77-year-old grandfather and cutting the elderly mans ears off with a knife. According to CBS affiliate WPEC, the Lake County Sheriffs Office was called to a home in DeLand in Central Florida on Saturday night for reports of a man who said he was attacked by his grandfather.
Kolby Parker, 30, told deputies he and his grandfather, Ronald Wells, Sr., were smoking marijuana when there was a confrontation. Parker claims he was only acting in self-defence when the older man attacked him with a knife. He told deputies he managed to get the knife away and used it on Wells, who was found dead on the front porch with multiple stab wounds.
While he was being questioned by police, Parker allegedly pulled two human ears from his pant pockets, which were later discovered to be those of his grandfather, according to the police report. Deputies said Parker became violent toward them, but he was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
Investigators say Parker confessed to hitting his grandfather multiple times in the head with a baseball bat and then stabbed him with a butcher knife numerous times. He also admitted to cutting his grandfathers ears off and stated that he wanted his grandfather to be with his dead grandmother. Parker is charged with second-degree murder, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting with violence.
