WTF! - AR-15-toting Black AZ Republican attacks 'KKK Democrats' in Klan hoods in new advert

Calling Democrats Klansmen is similar to accusing Trump's opponents of storming the Capitol, except it goes deeper than that.

https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/campaign-ad-criticizing-kkk-democrats-nonsensical-insulting-n1296883

In a ridiculous new campaign ad released this week, Jerone Davison, a Black Republican in Arizona who’s running for Congress, scares off what he calls Ku Klux Klan Democrats by brandishing an assault-style rifle.

A Black man claiming he needs an AR-15 to keep a dozen Ku Klux Dems from invading his home may believe he’s being clever, but really, he’s just making an argument for putting would-be gun owners through a battery of cognitive tests. Because anybody arguing that today’s Klan and today’s Democrats are simpatico doesn’t have good walking-around sense, to say nothing of good walking-around-with-a-gun sense. But Davison must know that nonsense is more likely to make him attractive to the voters he wants to send him to the House, especially the kind of nonsense that implies that Black people are fools to vote blue.

“Democrats like to say that no one needs an AR-15 for self-defense, that no one could possibly need all 30 rounds,” we hear a voice say as Davison stands in his window with an AR-15-style rifle watching a whole klavern of Klansmen approach with a barbed bat and, for some reason, an assortment of garden tools. “But when this rifle is the only thing standing between your family and a dozen angry Democrats in Klan hoods, you just might need that semi-automatic. And all 30 rounds.”

https://twitter.com/Jerone4Congress/status/1544700948164972546
Before we get to the main point, let’s pause to point out the ad’s assumption that a dozen Klansmen looking to invade this Black man’s home would themselves eschew AR-15s in favor of garden rakes and hatchets. In what part of Arizona would a homeowner have 30 rounds and a dozen Klansmen not have 360? But that’s the reality that the GOP’s gun fetishists consistently ignore as they promote a political philosophy based on old Westerns: There’s nothing about being a so-called good guy with a gun that provides an advantage over a bad guy with the same.

5 salad recipes with a refreshing kick of heat

https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2022/07/06/spicy-salads-recipes/

https://archive.ph/WBUC8

If you find yourself groaning at the word “salad,” let me try to convert you. A salad doesn’t have to be boring or relegated to a side dish. In fact, a salad is more fun when it becomes a colorful, spicy adventure through your pantry. Lately, I’ve been dreaming about the seemingly endless combinations of leafy greens, vegetables, fruit, spice and dressing. The obvious conclusion was there all along: Salad invites flavor and zest and a personal favorite of mine, spice. A dash of it might be the key to turning a salad skeptic into a salad savant. In just a few simple steps, you can spice up your salad and sweat out the summer heat. For more hot and spicy salads, search for the salad course in our Recipe Finder.

Spicy Thai Corn Salad (above). Summer corn is in full swing during the hottest months of the year. So indulge in this plump vegetable (once you learn how to shuck it) mixed with a spicy Thai bird’s eye chile, or for a milder kick, try serrano or jalapeños.

Sweet Potato Salsa Salad. A zesty salsa tops a mountain of roasted, garlicky potatoes because, guess what, salsas can be salads, too. Thinly sliced jalapeño adds a sweet bite of heat. If you find yourself with a full fridge, substitute other vegetables and legumes into this hearty plate.

Koshimbir With Tadka (Indian Salad). The secret ingredient to any delicious koshimbir is tadka — spice-infused oil or ghee. Drizzle this aromatic oil on your choice of vegetables and fruits for a flavorful salad that packs a punch.

Black Republicans Keep Chasing White Racist Votes

Racially aggrieved white conservatives actually love to vote for “the Black guy,” as long as they’re attacking blackness.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/black-republicans-keep-chasing-white-racist-votes

There have been plenty of Republican campaign ads featuring candidates tacitly threatening to shoot people. There’s the one where Missouri Senate wannabe Eric Greitens advocates “RINO hunting,” or the one where Michigan gubernatorial contender Garrett Soldano fires multiple guns for 45 seconds—but the latest Jerone Davison ad stands out for a few reasons.

https://twitter.com/GarrettForMI/status/1445413013599793161
https://twitter.com/Jerone4Congress/status/1544700948164972546
For starters, Davison, who is running for a U.S. House seat representing Arizona, is a Black Republican and regardless of what every Black Republican claims, that’s still the rarest kind. Then there’s the fact that the ad shows a gathering mob of men in Ku Klux Klan robes, various crude weapons in their hands, descending on Davison’s back yard as he sips coffee at a kitchen table. The commercial ends with Davison crossing his lawn toward the mob, a machine gun held aloft.

“When this rifle is the only thing standing between your family and a dozen angry Democrats in Klan hoods,” Davison says in voiceover, “you just might need that semi-automatic and all 30 rounds.” There was plenty of outrage after Davison posted the ad on Twitter (though he somehow escaped criticism for a shot in the ad that so clearly bites an iconic photo of Malcolm X that it should trigger an immediate settlement payment and note of apology to the Shabazz family). Most of the indignation focused on the ad’s violence, but there was also the matter of its near comical ahistoricism.

In the midst of an ongoing gun epidemic that has seen white racists stalk and cut down Black folks in spaces as sacred as a Charleston, South Carolina, church, and as mundane as a Buffalo, New York, grocery store—here’s Davison manipulating the timeline to make it seem as if the current scourge of murderous white racial terror isn’t a rightwing phenomenon tied to the GOP. We know this because of all the intelligence reports indicating that “far-right-wing extremists are the most significant domestic terrorism threat facing the United States” and investigations indicating a surge of white supremacist and “right-wing extremist attacks and plots greatly eclipsing those from the far left and causing more deaths.”

This inflation-proof bond is paying 9.62%. Here's how to buy it.

A step-by-step guide to buying inflation-indexed I series government savings bonds

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/06/22/step-by-step-guide-to-buy-i-bonds/

https://archive.ph/CbJqz

The government’s inflation-protection savings bond right now is like a Birkin bag — highly coveted. With the stock market crashing and inflation rising, people are desperately looking for a place to park their extra cash. Paying 9.62 percent, the relatively unknown inflation-proof Series I savings bond has become a hit with $17.5 billion sold in the six months ending in May, according to the Treasury Department. That’s compared with $364 million in I bond sales in all of 2020.

If you’ve got money sitting around earning a little more than 1 percent, if that much, I bonds are an attractive deal. Several callers to ASK-POST (855-275-7678), my toll-free line, have been asking about I bonds. There are a couple of things you should know before buying an I bond.

— You have to set up an account at TreasuryDirect.gov to buy the bonds.
— The interest rate on new Series I savings bonds is 9.62 percent through October 2022.
— Individuals can only purchase up to $10,000 in electronic I bonds each calendar year. If your purchase exceeds that limit, it can take up to 16 weeks for Treasury to process a refund. (You can also buy up to $5,000 in paper I bonds using your federal income tax refund).
— You pay the face value of the bond. For example, you pay $25 for a $25 bond.
— You can’t cash the I bond for at least one year. If you cash the bond before five years, you lose the previous three months of interest.
— You have to pay federal income taxes on the interest.

Now, here’s a step-by-step guide to purchasing I bonds, which starts with setting up an account at TreasuryDirect.gov.......

The housing market, at last, appears to be cooling off

Many sellers are reluctant to lower prices, but houses are sitting on the market longer and buyers have more options

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/07/09/housing-market-slowdown-mortgage-rates/

https://archive.ph/2D7yd

After a stunning rise in home prices enriched sellers and keyed up buyers into frantic bidding wars, there are signs that the U.S. housing market is starting to cool amid a surge of new inventory and higher interest rates. “For sale” signs are multiplying in previously red-hot markets like San Jose, Chicago and Phoenix. The volume of U.S. monthly home sales have registered double-digit declines in the past year, according to estimates from Zillow and the National Association of Realtors.

In May alone, the number of houses sold is down 19 percent from the year-ago period, according to Zillow, and preliminary data suggests the falloff was more pronounced in June. “This year’s buyers are just much more savvy, and they deserve to be because they’re going to be paying more to purchase the home,” said Daniel Valdez, an agent with eXp Realty in Sacramento. The slowdown has, so far, provided little relief to buyers. Instead, analysts say, a growing affordability crisis ― driven by the collision of inflation and rising interest rates ― is forcing many would-be buyers to walk away.

That’s because some sellers, mindful of the stratospheric gains of 2020 and 2021, which brought the average home price up more than 40 percent, are reluctant to lower their expectations. And home values are still gaining, up 19 percent on average in the year ending in June, according to the data firm Black Knight. “The market’s cooling off, but that cooling has happened on the backs of buyers getting discouraged, on buyers being forced out of the market,” said Jeff Tucker, a senior economist at Zillow. “People who thought they would join the party are being greeted by absolute carnage as far as affordability right now.”

The cooling housing market reflects broader changes in the economy as policymakers work to get decades-high inflation under control. Rock-bottom interest rates in 2020 and 2021 helped fuel the surge in housing prices since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. But the Federal Reserve reversed course this year after inflation spiked, making the price of food, fuel, housing and other essentials a dominant economic concern. The central bank has bumped up its benchmark interest rate three times in 2022 and signaled that four more increases are pending. The most recent hike in June was three-quarters of a percentage point, the Fed’s largest since 1994.

Mets' Chris Bassitt wants to halt MLB covid testing: 'There's no reason'

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/07/07/mets-chris-bassitt-covid/

On his first day back from the covid-19 list, New York Mets pitcher Chris Bassitt said he regrets telling the team he tested positive for the coronavirus and that MLB should consider stopping future tests.

“I probably won’t [tell the team again] the rest of my career,” said Bassitt, who was placed on the list July 1 and missed his scheduled start against Texas last week. “There’s no way. There’s no reason.”

After calling the current state of covid policies “ridiculous,” the right-hander was asked what an alternative solution might be.

“Stop testing it,” he answered. “Stop acting like covid is far worse than a lot of other things. … I was never sick. Never had a symptom. So sitting out for two weeks or possibly a week for zero symptoms? I don’t know. … I guess the answer is I should have never said anything.”

Missouri Bigot Admits to Shooting Teen Eight Times Because He's Gay

“How to know if the police are looking for you,” the 26-year-old allegedly searched before he was arrested.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/missouri-bigot-malachi-robinson-admits-to-shooting-teen-eight-times-because-hes-gay

Malachi Robinson - Jackson County Sheriff's Office

A Missouri man pleaded guilty this week to shooting a teen eight times because he was gay, the Department of Justice said. Malachi Robinson may now face a lifetime behind bars if handed the maximum sentence for the crime, which the 26-year-old initially boasted about to friends and family before panicking as police centered their investigation on him, according to federal prosecutors.

A plea agreement that details the May 29, 2019, incident says Robinson fired a Taurus 9mm at an unnamed teen, striking him eight times, with three bullets to his chest, three to his right arm, one in his backside, and another that nearly detached his index finger. Miraculously, the teen survived the shooting. But he was hospitalized for two weeks and still requires ongoing treatment, the plea deal says.

The teen was shot in the woods of Swope Park, near the Kansas City public library where the two initially met and added each other on Facebook. The boy then messaged Robinson, asking if he wanted to have sex in the library bathroom, the plea deal said. Robinson responded, “I’m not really gay,” but later said he was willing to receive oral sex if the boy paid him $5.

That’s when Robinson lured the teen to the woods near the library. The plea deal says M.S. thought they were searching for a place to have sex, while Robinson was actually looking for a concealed spot to shoot him. “Might shoot this boy if he try some gay shit,” Robinson allegedly wrote to his girlfriend that day. Before any sexual acts were performed, the feds say Robinson opened fire on the teen and left him to die.

Top white nationalist: 'Jews stood in the way' of ending Roe v. Wade

Nick Fuentes, who founded the America First Political Action Committee and the ”groyper army,” made the comments on his website’s livestream on Friday.

Updated: June 30, 2022

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist leader and influential figure among the rightmost flank of the Republican Party, told his followers that “Jews stood in the way” of Catholic Supreme Court Justices who “were put on the court to overturn” the 1973 decision that guaranteed the right to an abortion in the United States.

Who is Nick Fuentes?

Fuentes, who founded the America First Political Action Committee and the ”groyper army,” a radical fringe group, made the comments on his website’s livestream on Friday, according to Right Wing Watch. He added “we need a government of Christians” and “Jewish people can be here, but they can’t make our laws.”

Extremism trackers like the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center have long classified Fuentes as a hate group leader who advocates antisemitism and Holocaust denial, in addition to racist and nativist ideologies. His YouTube channel was previously banned for hate speech.

Yet several Republican elected officials were featured speakers at Fuentes’ AFPAC conference in February, including sitting members of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Paul Gosar of Arizona; Idaho Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin; and Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers (who was censured by her state Republican party for her appearance at the conference). When they were confronted with Fuentes’ views after their conference appearances, all four declined to condemn Fuentes or his organization. Gosar previously hosted a fundraiser with Fuentes.
