Friendly Fire? WSJ Ridicules Trade Deal with Mexico: 'Worse' Than NAFTA Pullout

Source: Mediaite

by Joe DePaolo | Aug 28th, 2018, 8:57 am

The Wall Street Journal‘s op-ed writers can, by and large, be considered friendly to President Donald Trump — at least, more so than those who work for many other outlets. But with friends like these, who needs enemies?

On Tuesday, the Journal ripped apart the president’s trade deal with Mexico in a scathing op-ed.

“We’ll reserve judgment until we see the fine print,” the editorial read, “but on first inspection this is half a Nafta that contains some improvements but is notably worse in many ways.” The Journal‘s editorial cited several major issues with the pact. Notably, Canada’s exclusion raised eyebrows on the Journal’s editorial board.

“The new deal has many problems, however, not least that it excludes Canada,” the editorial read. “U.S. Trade Rep Robert Lighthizer used the desire of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to sign a deal before he leaves office to raise the negotiating pressure on Canada. Mr. Trump implied Monday that either Ottawa signs on or he’ll slap a 25% tariff on cars made in Canada.

But, the piece added, “Canada handled that threat with prudent restraint.”

Those last two words will never, ever be associated with Trump.

Pro-Trump Pastor: We Clearly 'Don't Support Extramarital Affairs', But We Support His Policies

Source: Mediaite

by Joseph A. Wulfsohn | Aug 28th, 2018, 12:31 am

On Monday night, Pastor Robert Jeffress appeared on Fox News and expressed evangelicals’ undying support for President Donald Trump.

Attending a recent White House event with other evangelical leaders, Jeffress told Fox News anchor Shannon Bream that the “headline” from the evening would be “Evangelicals enthusiastically remain supportive of President Trump,” adding that recent headlines involving Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen didn’t affect his support of Trump nor did they for others.

“I know a lot of people are still perplexed- why are Christians so supportive of Donald Trump?” Jeffress said. “Well, it’s really not that hard to figure out when you realize he is the most pro-life, pro-religious liberty, pro-conservative judiciary in history and that includes either Bush or Ronald Reagan. I think that is why evangelicals remain committed to this president and they are not going to turn away from him soon.”

Iran's parliament blames Rouhani for economic troubles, refers him to judiciary

Source: Reuters

AUGUST 28, 2018 / 2:40 AM / UPDATED 39 MINUTES AGO

LONDON (Reuters) - Pressures mounted on Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday as lawmakers summoned him to answer questions on weak economic growth and rising prices, but the parliament was not convinced by his answers and referred the case to the judiciary.

Defending his cabinet’s performance, Rouhani said the economic troubles only began when Washington reimposed sanctions on Tehran, but many lawmakers were not satisfied with the answer according to vote results at the end of the session.

If the majority of lawmakers are not convinced with the president’s answers, they can see it as “a breach of law” and refer the case to the judiciary. The lawmakers have the power to impeach the president, and vote on his lack of competence, but such a motion is not before parliament at this stage.

On Sunday, Iran’s parliament sacked the minister of economic affairs and finance due to the sharp fall in the rial currency and the deterioration in the economic situation. In early August Iranian lawmakers voted out the minister of labor and last month Rouhani replaced the head of the central bank.

Have Britain, France, Germany and the other countries involved reimposed their sanctions too? Surely America alone doesn't have that much power over Iran's economy. Or do we?

'Sleeper' case could torpedo Mueller report

By JOSH GERSTEIN, Politico, 08/27/2018 05:06 AM EDT

A little-noticed court case stemming from the apparent murder of a Columbia University professor six decades ago could keep special counsel Robert Mueller from publishing any information about the Trump campaign and Russia that he obtains through a Washington grand jury.

The substance of the case is entirely unrelated to Mueller’s investigation into whether any of President Donald Trump’s associates aided Russia’s efforts to intervene in the 2016 election.

But if a Washington appeals court set to hear the murder-related case next month sides with the Justice Department and rules that judges don’t have the freedom to release grand jury information that is usually kept secret, it could throw a monkey wrench into any plans Mueller has to issue a public report on his probe’s findings, lawyers following the issue said.

And it might even keep the special counsel from sending a report to Congress, shaking Democrats’ hopes that such a document could provide the impetus for impeachment proceedings against the president.

I have deliberately snipped quotes from "foreign" leaders, as most of them care much more about our country than the traitor masquerading as POTUS.

Godspeed, John Sidney.
