Another win for democracy in Utah (of all places)

The supreme court overruled the finding of a trial court when the trial court dismissed a case challenging the congressional maps in Utah, which affect cities like SLC which has large democratic districts. It has been now sent back to the trial court to continue the case so it is not yet a full win but the fight will continue and could open new chances for the dems to pick up a couple of seats. Not likely this election but hopefully going forward.

Another win by Democracy Docket lawyers and Marc Elias for voters in Wisconsin

This is a very big deal. It is to do with the witness statements on mail in ballots where the witness may have not made a complete address, that the republicans wanted thrown out. Wisconsin appeals court has ruled in favour of counting those ballots.

Finally some media are calling out their counterparts and reporting good Biden news.

https://www.salon.com/2024/07/12/bidens-performance-has-been-exceptional-where-it-matters-its-the-economy/

~snip~
President Joe Biden held an hour-long press conference Thursday night and answered a range of questions about his age, his competence, his stamina, his health and his future. He also delivered several incisive disquisitions on foreign policy that Donald Trump's staff would have to use a very large coloring book and possibly a puppet show to explain to him. Not that it would work. He'd probably storm out of the meeting long before they got to the part about China and Russia, yelling about love letters and being a boss.

The media didn't seem all that impressed, judging the president's performance to only be fair to middling and virtually ignoring the substance of what he had to say. Biden offered a serious overview of the nation's relationship with its allies and adversaries and made some news about Israel, calling for its war in Gaza to end. But everyone was more interested in Biden's aesthetic performance and how he answered questions about prospective plans to quit the presidential race so any talk of his actual policies is evidently irrelevant.

Good News for John Tester in Montana.

The Montana supreme court has rejected four republican initiatives that would essentially suppress the vote in Montana, including the Native aboriginal votes. It is good news for John Tester in his senate race. I think he will keep his seat. He also discusses the Florida abortion law that will now help dems and could be the demise of Rick Scott (fingers crossed).

Jason Leopold uncovers messages from Trumpist FBI agents against the search of Mar-a-Lago and

the investigation of Trump along with sympathies of 1/6 insurrectionists. It shows what we have all known for awhile but never had the proof. Under a FOIA request Leopold has found various emails etc that show outright hostility to the investigation of Trump.

~snip~

Rumors have long swirled that FBI agents at various field offices had been sympathetic to Trump even as the bureau launched investigations into his campaign and his business dealings. The claims were always attributed to anonymous sources. An email I obtained last year after a separate FOIA lawsuit related to the Jan. 6 Capital riots backs up those assertions.

“There’s no good way to say it,” read the email to deputy director Abbate. “So I’ll just be direct: from my first-hand and second-hand information from conversations since January 6th there is, at best, a sizable percentage of the employee population that felt sympathetic to the group that stormed the Capitol and said it was no different than the BLM protests of last summer," the person wrote a week after the riots.

Very interesting article

Russia has a Spate of Mock News sites online to look like local news sites and spread disinformation

Article by the New York Times:

~Into the depleted field of journalism in America, a handful of websites have appeared in recent weeks with names suggesting a focus on news close to home: D.C. Weekly, the New York News Daily, the Chicago Chronicle and a newer sister publication, the Miami Chronicle.
In fact, they are not local news organizations at all. They are Russian creations, researchers and government officials say, meant to mimic actual news organizations to push Kremlin propaganda by interspersing it among an at-times odd mix of stories about crime, politics and culture.~
.

Be careful what you are reading and quoting in this day and age.

Abbe Lowell is hitting back at Weiss with his recent arrest of Smirnov in the Hunter Biden case

Abbe Lowell has filed his reply motion to compel discovery and he has used not only Weiss's stupid picture of sawdust on a table saw as coke but also their claim that Hunter Biden took and sent the picture (he did neither).

It is one of many motions we are expecting today but he does hammer them on both the arrest and the claims made about the picture.

Here is the filing
