I've started two positive threads today about two candidates and they're both getting hijacked

with criticism and snark

I'm sure if I started threads critical of any candidate, I'd be jumped for being negative, attacking candidates, being a troll, etc. But positive threads aren't received any better.

Is this one of the reasons we can't have nice things?

That is all.

My suggested response to Trump's illegal order to include the citizenship question

If Trump proceeds and orders the Commerce Department to print the citizenship question on the Census, the State of New York (the plaintiff/ respondent in this case) should ask the court to enforce its injunction prohibiting the addition of the citizenship question to the census questionnaire and to declare that any administration instructions to the contrary to be an illegal order that no employee is required to obey and any attempt to discipline an employee for failing to comply will constitute contempt of court.

That injunction should be enforced against not just administration senior officials, who are likely to thumb their noses and not fear consequences, but every Department employee and contractor. And if they defy the court order and follow Trump's illegal order, they should be threatened with arrest - and arrested if they continue to refuse to comply.

When career employees stop following Trump's illegal orders, things may start to change. The courts can help make this happen by taking steps to protect employees from retaliation.

Mother Jones column: Never Forget That Nancy Pelosi Is Very Smart

It’s interesting to watch the dynamics swirling around Pelosi. There can hardly be any question that she’s pretty progressive. She is, for example, considerably farther to the left than Paul Ryan was to the right. (According to VoteView, she ranked #32 out of 200 Democrats in the previous session of Congress.) And most progressives respect the hell out of her. She has a well-deserved reputation as the smartest, most effective Democratic politician of her era.

But I’ve always thought that if you respect someone, it means you respect them even when you disagree with them. So you can still disagree with Pelosi, but you should acknowledge that she most likely has pretty good reasons for not pursuing impeachment; going slow on investigations; not pushing for an even more liberal border bill,¹ and being publicly dismissive of AOC. I don’t know that I agree with all of these decisions, but I don’t suddenly think Pelosi is a dimwitted sellout because of that. I think we just disagree. And given her massively greater knowledge of Congress, I suspect she’s more right about this stuff than I am."

MSNBC: Alex Acosta's press conference is Trump's idea

That doesn't bode well for Acosta. Sounds like he's been sent out to walk the plank - and if he doesn't perform perfectly, he'll be pushed off.

So, what if

Bill Barr has been out to get Epstein for decades, since his father hired him to teach at the Dalton School, and unbeknownst to anyone else, has harbored a simmering hatred of Donald Trump during that time. And he vowed years ago to get both of them.

So, he very carefully and strategically, over many years, plotted the ultimate takedown. He moved very deliberately and patiently, positioning himself to become Attorney General and convinced Trump and the rest of the world that he was not only on his side, but was his ultimate enabler in order to build his trust - which would not only cause him to let down his guard, but also make the revenge all the sweeter when it all came together.

And, now that he's in the position at the top of the federal criminal enforcement pyramid, he authorized his prosecutors to go after Epstein, knowing that he's the only one who can stop the prosecution, but he's not - he's just going to let them have at it. And when they do, they'll take down Epstein and Trump with him.

And when they crumble into rubble, Barr will be all like this:

Ok - I know that's not what's happening, but a girl can dream, can't she?

WaPo: Justice Department Changing Lawyers on Census Case

The Justice Department is swapping out the lawyers who had been representing the administration in its legal battle to put a question about citizenship on the 2020 Census, possibly signaling career attorneys’ legal or ethical concerns over the maneuvering ordered by President Trump.

The department announced the move in a statement, which was issued after The Washington Post inquired about whether the career lawyers on the team planned to withdraw. A person familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said that at least some of the career attorneys harbored concerns about the administration’s handling of the case — although the nature of those concerns and how widespread they were could not immediately be learned.

Rev. Barber: We must stop calling Southern states "red States"

https://twitter.com/RevDrBarber/status/1144372609028689920

We must stop saying Southern states are red states. They are voter suppression, racially gerrymandered states where the demographics now provide a path to change if we build a movement & mobilize. If this wasn’t true extremists wouldn’t be fighting & cheating so hard.
