Bissell Pet Foundation is covering adoption fees at shelters across the country, including Memphis Animal Services

"We are anticipating seeing a lot of pet parents have trouble caring for their pets with so many people losing income and hours. We're really worried that there's going to be a lot of people who are going to be really facing a lot of difficult decisions," said Katie Pemberton, Memphis Animal Services Community Engagement Specialis.

"We're doing what we can to help with the Empty the Shelter emergency relief adoption special," said Bri Olson, Bissell Pet Foundation Communications Coordinator. "This one wasn't planned. Usually it takes much more planning.

The Empty the Shelter emergency relief runs until April 8, 2020. In the meantime, shelters still need donations such as food in order to avoid reducing portion size.

Disaster in motion: 3.4 million travelers poured into US as coronavirus pandemic erupted "The number

[link:https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/disaster-motion-34-million-travelers-poured-us-coronavirus/story?id=69933625&cid=clicksource_4380645_2_takeover_2_headlines_hed|

"The numbers are clearly alarming."

An ABC News investigation offers sobering insight into how COVID-19 has spread and penetrated so broadly, so deeply and so quickly in the United States. It also helps explain why Americans, no matter where they live, must continue to heed the warnings of health officials to self distance and why the virus likely was here far earlier than first realized.

Travel data of passengers arriving in the United States from China during the critical period in December, January and February, when the disease took hold in that country, shows a stunning 759,493 people entered the U.S.

"The numbers are clearly alarming," Dr. Simone Wildes, an infectious disease specialist at South Shore Health, told ABC News. "It shows that globalization is here, and we have to be better prepared to deal with the impact this will have on all our lives in so many ways."

Gov. Hutchinson explains why he hasn't issued 'stay at home' order for Arkansas yet

[link:https://www.localmemphis.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/gov-hutchinson-explains-why-he-hasnt-issued-stay-at-home-order-for-arkansas-yet/522-61e036dd-c1a6-4d69-b962-b738dcfc00dc|

Gov. Asa Hutchinson also claimed that stay at home orders in other states are an "illusion" due to the added exemptions. He called it a "recipe for confusion."

The governor then showed a map of all the states in the U.S. that have a 'stay at home' order. Arkansas is in the middle, with no order in place. He said the map is not helpful to Arkansans because it gives an unrealistic expectation.

"It gives the impression that we're not really doing as much as we should be in Arkansas, when you can see from the targeted response that we're doing a great deal and it has been having some success," Hutchinson said.

OK I am offended on behalf of the citizens of Arkansas that their gov thinks they are so stupid they can undrrstand "stay home!" Talk about projection!

JONESBORO, Ark. — "The first death of Covid 19 actually happened 2000 years ago," Awaken Church posted on their Facebook page Wednesday. "The Bible tells us that Jesus took on every sin, sickness and every disease...Jesus bore it so you wouldn’t have to."

One area they're focused on is after a person is tested, and their healthcare provider tells them to remain isolated until the test results come back.

In the meantime, Haushalter said that person can notify everyone they've been in close contact with, and get them into quarantine. They should a let their employer know immediately.

The health department asks that employers let them know if they receive notice from an employee.

Haushalter said contact tracing is intensive, and she's looking to find 25 to 50 volunteers with medical backgrounds to join her team.
