Thank you so much DU!

I recently joined DU and have been so impressed by the incredible kindness and welcoming direct messages (which I am still working on getting back to some).

I am the annoying new member pushing the importance of Kansas’ redistricting, and you may wonder why a small state-level legislative feud holds so much importance? Democrats have a 10 seat majority in the US House, and (very) early projections have GOP gains in ‘22. Kansas has 1 likely D district each cycle, but there have been explicit calls to gerrymander this district [link:https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215054640|. That would drop a +10 majority to +8 overnight. This seat could play a huge part in the US House from 2022-2032.

Kansas has a population under 3 million and a narrowly split balance of power: so the good news is a well-organized advocacy campaign would make each dollar work much longer and much harder (per capita) than a more flashy initiative. Advocacy efforts like this have proven to be successful (specifically on common-sense reform like anti-gerrymandering), and is very plausible with such a narrowly split balance of power in the state. I am somewhat partial, having spent 30+ years here and now fighting gerrymandering in my own backyard, but I will continue supporting the cause up to $5,000.

Omaha Steve has helped me get a contribution link set up to support a non-profit: [link:https://secure.actblue.com/donate/duforfairmaps |

Thank you for the warm welcome!
