Why Newfies are awesome. Listen five seconds in for the dog's reaction and what it does by instinct.

I think we can all agree on the following few statements
1: There are no dangerous dogs, only idiot owners.
2: Dogs wear their emotions on their sleeves.
3: Puppy mills are a crime against nature and need to be shut down forever
4: Humans don't deserve an animal in our lives as awesome, loyal, and loving as a dog
5: If humans were more like dogs, the world would be an awesome place

Pug is definite. Wife is enamored with the little bug eyed mutant.
German Shepherd is definite. I've loved these dogs since childhood
Newfoundland is a definite. I've wanted a big black rug since childhood
The Boxer, Rottweiler, and the St. Bernard will guard, watch, and protect.
Bernies are stubborn and harder to train but very good with children
Rotties need massive socialization to keep them from being aggressive and are okay with children they know
Which one would you for as the fourth? Remember, I love dogs more than people. We will have the acreage and yard space for them. Raising them as a pack will cut down and the same sex aggression and all the other multiple dog issues, plus I've raised dogs most of my life. It's the wife that has never had one and needs the training as much as the dogs do so she doesn't spoil them and so they won't see her as a pushover weenie.
The immediate goal for them to protect her when I have to go on set or on book tours. Then the goal is to protect her and the baby when we have one. She refuses to allow a gun in the house even for hunting (for a country boy hayseed like me, not hunting is painful).
No, we won't have cats. I don't like them. No, we won't have little mammals like hamsters or rabbits because she looks at them and sees rats/mice and is terrified of them.
Dog lovers - want input. Getting dogs as soon as we are in W, PA.
Input. . .which would be the better other in your mind, since I am looking for guard/protect but is also good with children

Florida teen allegedly shoots, kills sister after fight over Christmas gifts
A 14-year-old boy allegedly fatally shot his older sister in Florida after a family argument over Christmas presents, officials said Tuesday.
The teen had been out shopping on Christmas Eve with Abrielle Baldwin, his 23-year-old sister, as well as his mother, 15-year-old brother and sister's children, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said during a news conference.
The teenage brothers got into an argument about who was getting more Christmas presents.
"They had this family spat about who was getting what and what money was being spent on who, and they were having this big thing going on in this store," Gualtieri said.
