Trump campaign says it raised more than $4 million in the 24 hours after his indictment

Source: NBC News via AOL

Former President Donald Trump raised more than $4 million in the 24 hours after news of his indictment in Manhattan became public, according to figures released by his campaign Friday.

The Trump campaign said that more than 25% of the donations came from first-time donors to the former president, "further solidifying President Trump’s status as the clear frontrunner in the Republican primary."

Trump's campaign sent out more than a half-dozen fundraising solicitations over email in less than 24 hours after his indictment, and he called for donations on his Truth Social platform as well.

A campaign official also told NBC News that it received 16,000 volunteer sign-ups over the past day as well.

Manchin threatens to sue US Treasury over EV tax credit rules

Source: Reuters via AOL

Senate Energy Committee Chair Joe Manchin said on Wednesday he may go to court after the U.S. Treasury releases guidance later this week on battery sourcing guidance for electric vehicle tax credits.

"If it goes off the rails" and violates the intent of the climate legislation approved in August, "I will do whatever I can - if that means going to court and I can do it, I'd do it," said Manchin, a Democrat.

Manchin said he is most concerned about how Treasury will classify processing and manufacturing in determining eligibility for $7,500 EV tax credits. Manchin, who has often pushed fossil fuel industry interests in Congress, says he is trying to move the EV battery supply chain from China. His political opponents say he doesn't like the EV industry.

"Manufacturing is meant to bring manufacturing back to the United States. It's not basically allowing everyone to put all the parts and build everything you can for that battery somewhere else and then send it here for assembly," Manchin told reporters.

How do I criticize this wastrel without violating the rules and getting juried?

As stated, my mother has thrown her hat into the ring for CD16 against Used Car Mike.

Anyone in her district that wants to contact her through email and offer help, advice, or assistance to get the PA Democratic Party to endorse her (as well as help with petitions if PA does that for nominating), please PM me.

I'll give you her name and email address now.

We are in the early stages. My father, a brilliant financial and political mind, is going to serve as her campaign manager.

Trust me, speaking to her, you will do what most people speaking to her or my wife: fall in love with her.

I know it is extremely early but this is era of round the clock politicking and 24/7 campaigning.

Again, if AOC can do it at 28, my mother can at 71.

3 children, 3 adults fatally shot at Nashville grade school

Source: AP via AOL

A female shooter wielding two “assault-style” rifles and a pistol killed three students and three adults at a private Christian school in Nashville on Monday in what marks the latest in a series of mass shootings in a country growing increasingly unnerved by bloodshed in schools.

The suspect also died after being shot by police following the violence at The Covenant School, a Presbyterian school for about 200 students from preschool through sixth grade. Police said the shooter was a 28-year-old woman from Nashville, after initially saying she appeared to be in her teens.

Authorities were working to identify her and whether she had a connection to the school.

The killings come as communities around the nation are reeling from a spate of school violence, including the massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, last year; a first grader who shot his teacher in Virginia; and a shooting last week in Denver that wounded two administrators.

Shooter was female. Shooter is dead.

Barely any national exposure for the latest mass shooting.

It's so common no one cares anymore.

DUers, I am beyond happy to announce that, at the next Lawrence County Dem meeting in PA,

My mother is announcing she is going to run again that odious insurrectionist Mike Kelly for US House for PA-16 from her home in New Castle.

My father and I will be helping a lifelong New Deal Democrat, tried and true progressive, and retired career teacher to get to nom.

She said that it's time we start running against Mike Kelly and "wants to discredit and destroy what shred of character and credibility he may have left in his body."

When things get rolling, I will let you all know, but if we can get her elected, PA-16 will have a older, grayer, female version of Big John.

Trump vows to cut federal funding for schools teaching CRT or 'transgender insanity'

Source: USA Today VIA AOL

In his first visit to Iowa since announcing a 2024 presidential bid, former President Donald Trump laid out what he wants for American schools should he win: universal school choice, changes in school curriculum, elected school principals and to "break up" the U.S. Department of Education.

“This is what must be done to save our country from destruction,” said Trump to the crowd in Davenport, Iowa, during a speech intended to address education, among other priorities of his campaign. Republicans, including one of Trump's expected rivals, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have seized on culture wars in education as a way to make inroads with prospective voters.

Trump, who spoke about a host of issues before turning to education, said he will cut federal funding for any school pushing “critical race theory,” “transgender insanity” or “any other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content on our children."

And in alignment with his executive order allowing federally funded private school choice, he commended Iowa leaders for creating a school voucher program that will eventually be available to every student in the state.

From the article:

What are Trump's other education plans?

On COVID-19 regulations: “I will not give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate or mask mandate from kindergarten through college.”

On student achievement following school closures: “We will be the administration that commits to get the kids back on track and quickly… This must be our priority. It has to be.”

On school leaders: He said he will “support the direct election of school principals by the parents."

On the bureaucracy of the U.S. education system: “Breaking up the Department of Education is a very simple thing to do.”

On school curriculum: “What they’re teaching in schools today is insane.”

On transgender students participating in sports based on their gender identity: “People are seriously in favor of having it done, and I don’t understand it.”

Xi could visit Putin, speak to Zelenskiy next week

Chinese President Xi Jinping could wade deeper than before into Ukraine diplomacy as soon as next week, staging both his first trip to Russia and his first talks with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy since Moscow's invasion.

Several sources familiar with the plans told Reuters Xi could visit Moscow next week, an earlier-than-expected trip in response to a long-standing invitation from President Vladimir Putin. His plans to also hold a video conference with Zelenskiy were reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, which Reuters was not immediately able to confirm independently.

The Chinese foreign ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Kremlin said it had nothing to announce yet. Ukraine's president's office did not immediately respond.

The sources who told Reuters of the plan for Xi to visit Moscow declined to be identified given the sensitivity of the issue.

Ron DeSantis says protecting Ukraine is not a 'vital' U.S. interest

Source: NBC via AOL

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican presidential candidate, broke with many in his party Monday and told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that protecting Ukraine is not a "vital" national interest for the U.S.

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them," DeSantis wrote in a questionnaire response Carlson posted on his Twitter feed.

"The Biden administration’s virtual 'blank check' funding of this conflict for 'as long as it takes,' without any defined objectives or accountability, distracts from our country’s most pressing challenges," DeSantis continued.

He argued that "peace should be the objective" for the U.S. and expressed his opposition to sending "F-16s and long-range missiles" to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian President Vladimir Putin's war.
