In reply to the discussion: Has anyone decided where they will spend their tax cut in 2018 yet? [View all]mchill
(1,193 posts)36. You mean my big $14.50 a month????
I actually sat down Saturday, after the "final bill" and calculated my actual "tax relief." I live on a pension, have a mortgage, state income tax, property taxes and I currently itemize. My Schedule A is about $10,900, so $12k is nice, but losing the personal exemption of $4050 is HUGE. I will turn 65 next year, so get slight relief with the extra SD of $1550 added to that $12k (they didn't kill that), but obviously not my normal deduction to my AGI without that personal exemption. I retired earlier than planned due to cancer.
I come up short about $800 a month as it is.
So what am I spending it on? My contribution to my health insurance goes up $15.50 next year.
Tax Relief? $1 a month Maybe a lottery ticket?

If bill passes this year, IRS says withholding tables could be modified by February.

I'm not sure how it affects retirees, but mine will go straight into health care.

The tax scam may actually give me a small tax cut, but I am not sure what if any it will be.
