There is no single recognized leader of the black community, and there really never has been.

I actually give Sharpton much more credibility than West.

Cornell West and Tavis Smiley didn't take well to be eclipsed by Obama's presidency. West is particularly petty and jealous. Both lost major credibility when they did attack Obama, as they both saw themselves as spokespersons. Nobody elected them to that post, however. They were self-appointed, and now few pay West any attention. Tavis is in his own world of problems with the sexual harassment allegations against him.
