(5,412 posts)There are PLENTY of people who vote Democrat who are pro-second amendment. I am one of them. You can see my ballot from the last election in my sig.
I am pro-choice, pro-gay-rights, pro-environment, anti-corporations-are-people, pro-labor, and anti-war, to name a few of the traits that make me vote Democratic. I am against the plutocratic oligarchy we are becoming because of the rule of wealth in this country. I participate in the Occupy movement. I am for single-payer health care.
I also believe in ALL of the US Constitution.
I believe in collective action, but I also believe that individuals should be empowered to stand up to violence themselves if necessary, and not just by engaging in a physical contest of strength.
I believe that the intent of our founders was to decentralize power in government and in the military, with the ultimate source of armed power residing in the hands of the people. Imagine how many wars our country would have avoided in the last 65 years if the states had to all commit military forces individually to engage in them!
I find it astonishing that people who believe in the right to organize and bargain collectively get upset when 4 million people organize under the NRA to do just that. I guess collective bargaining is only OK when it's for issues you agree with.
I'm vote Democrat, and I support the second amendment. I voted for President Obama despite his 2nd amendment record and avowed campaign stance because the alternative was more war and more corporatism. Not just more, but zealously more.
