(12,343 posts)As an atheist I see religion as a danger to the stability and future of our nation and world.
If it really was just peace, love and joy I wouldnt mind as much but religions, Christianity here in the US specifically, attempts (and often succeeds) in influencing everything from education and science to our very rights as human beings to make our own healthcare decisions.
These influences are corrosive and are doing long-term damage to every aspect of our society.
Example:
Amish keep to themselves and live their lives without influencing or disrupting society. I question pushing their children into it but that is the only rub I have with it.
US evangelicals and Catholics and other religions in US attempt to control every aspect of our private lives from what I learn in school to what technology we develop to how I spend my retirement even though I didnt ask them too or agree with any of it but I wasnt asked or given a choice.
