I have come to abhor the brainwashing effect I see on my extended family and in the Christian evangelical community. That is the only religion I know enough to speak extensively on. So many really nice kind loving people that get caught up in a cult, LIKE ALL RELIGIONS ARE. Yes I was brought up in a fundamentalist Christian household, with Mennonite heritage. I left home as soon as I finished high school at the age of 17 to get away from it.
The fact that it can be used so easily by charlatans like Trump, (and W Bush before him) to gain power is proof to me of its danger. And then someone like Trump will proceed to rip off many of the poor Christians that he swindled into voting him in. Religion is a tool to recruit others into the church in order to keep it going, and sometimes to enrich megachurch pastors like Joel Osteen. But it can also be used as a rally to pressure parishioners to vote a certain way. Create a peer pressure situation where if you truly love God, you will vote Republican. I think many do not even know much about the issues, they just follow the leader, like a good flock.
