(14,881 posts)she posted the link on her dog's facebook page and asked her dogs fans to vote for her dog's pic with the intention of donating the prize to a dog rescue.
There was nothing to stop others from posting the contest on their own facebook pages and asking for votes.
How many times have we seen people link to contests here on DU, begging for votes to win prizes for *their* favorite shelters?
800-deadflowers didn't make any rules about prizes not being transferable. That was their mistake. Certainly they should have realized that people who rescue dogs may be interested in helping other dogs than the ones they were personally able to rescue.
If it were me, I would immediately have just asked them to send the food to my home address and then delivered the food (or a check in lieu) myself to the rescue. Maybe she tried, and they still refused her the prize.
Either way, what 800-deadflowers did was piss-poor pr and possibly fraud. I think I'll give them a call and ask them what they think.
