(7,496 posts)January 2017 was the end of the first phase of our Democratic Republic. In that phase we had 44 presidents-Washington through Obama- and we were the oldest continuous Democratic Republic on the planet. We also harbored deep divisions and prejudices which allowed our form of government to be subverted by a foreign power.
On Inauguration Day 2017 we became a defeated nation and right now we are still trying to figure out what happened and how to become a free country again-how to right the sunken ship of state.
If we can't raise up the sunken ship, it's going to lay there on the ocean floor like the old Titanic.
If we do raise it up, it will still not be the same Democratic Republic it was in Phase I. It will be at the most, a new phase-Phase II of the United States of America-yet it can be better than Phase I.
The worst thing we can do is write a false narrative of this time, of our defeat, of this illegitimate presidency, and then teach that false narrative to our children as our history and let this president 45 be regarded as just one more link in an unbroken chain.
Phase II needs to be built on fact not illusion, and not on the alternative facts of the subverters.
