It had to do with Bush successfully (although fslsely, of course) blaming the collapse of the coal industry on govetnment regulations. And, the GOP Southern Strategy ...

Its population is more than 92 percent white.

Trump ran up a huge margin in WV because he promised to bring back the coal jobs. It was not his opposition to NAFTA that won WV for him. It was the gullible believing his lies. And racism/sexism. Of course, your WV buddies would never admit that.
