In reply to the discussion: The GOP Is Disappearing In New York [View all]ProudMNDemocrat
(20,966 posts)37. The RED states just seem affordable......
But are expensive just the same. They Sales Tax everything from food in the Grocery Stores, Clothing, and Medicines in some states. They have cut taxes so drastically, they have their hands out for Federal monies for Infrastructure, Education, and basic Government services, etc.
Look at the state of Kansas, for example. Sam Brownback used Kansas as the Great Conservative Experiment. He had taxes cut for the rich that Kansas went bankrupt. He was re-elected despite it all. Schools had to close a month before the rest of the Nation because there was no money in order to pay teachers. Pensions were raided. Right To Work laws implemented crippling Unions. Minimum Wage set at the Federal Levels. Sales Taxes raised on everything from basic services like Oil Changes to food in Grocery stores. Kansas was and still is a MESS.
When people travel to Florida, Arizona, Texas, and states where there is no State Income taxes, they get your money in the way of regressive Sales and Property Taxes, and still have their hands out for Federal monies because their budgets run short. Also, the quality of life and basic standards are lower. You get what you pay for.
Minnesota is a high taxed state, but we have a higher quality and standard of life here, and rank 3rd in the Nation for Business climate and low Unemployment than the states that border it.

I wish people like Oprah, Hillary, Gore, Biden would run against the 'firm' GOP seats in all states.

The NYC metropolitan area is what drives the average up. Upstate and Central NY are reasonable.
